Whilst looking at how Harry Clifton is rated by Granthan (see separate thread), I came across the record of striker Danny Maguire at Blyth Spartans.
I wonder if anyone has heard of him and whether we would be interested in him? He is 24 and has scored 30 goals for them this season (no pens) out of 109 league goals. He is the League's top scorer if penalties are excluded.
Middlesbrough have this month signed Blyth's second top-scorer, Luke Armstrong. He got 21 goals and is the son of Alan Armstrong, their former first-team player. There are diamonds in NL if you look hard enough and wide enough.
Blyth are champions and will play in National League North next season. A decent standard against maybe Halifax and York. Maguire has been a consistent and prolific scorer over recent years, of course at a much lower level.
He has been at QPR and Yeovil (as a youth), so RS may know of him. He also played for Halifax for a short time. He was good enough to be an England C international and was offered a place at Glenn Hoddle's Spanish academy.
Top clubs are now on the lookout for the next NL Vardy. Maybe we should be looking at for lower NL versions?
His many achievements and honours at Blyth Spartans are shown below: – Port of Blyth Player of the Season (2015) – Supporters’ Club Player of the Season (2013, 2014 and 2015) – Players’ Player of the Year (2013) – England ‘C’ Representative Side (2014) – EvoStik Northern Premier Division Team of the Year (2014) – Blyth Spartans’ Leading Goalscorer (2014 and 2015) – Cannock Spartans’ Player of the Season (2015)

Not sure they are mate. Thats a big jump and he needs to be able to play a bit as well as score goals. They prefer a L! or L2 to pick him up first IMO. They don't want to fill their squads with players who probably will never get a game just like ourselves – Players’ Player of the Year (2013) – England ‘C’ Representative Side (2014) – EvoStik Northern Premier Division Team of the Year (2014) – Blyth Spartans’ Leading Goalscorer (2014 and 2015) – Cannock Spartans’ Player of the Season (2015)

Armstrong was actually released by Middlesbrough so he could play games and they kept an eye on him.

I am sure Russell Slade is beginning to look now at potential new faces at BP for next season.
We need a goalscorer for sure. There is talent out there in part time football. The management team and scouts will no doubt identify some names....who knows maybe this Maguire lad may already be on their radar.
Jamie Osborne & Sam Jones have progressed from similar levels and look like they could be important players for us going forward. Both look hungry to succeed and get better.

No more pub team players please - we already have our quota. The number of teams Slade has managed in the past few years he must surely have a few lads in mind

I'd be very surprised if we didn't know all about him and any other promising players in the lower leagues. In fact i'd be surprised if there were any club who wasn't monitoring the lower leagues for talent.

Pub team players like 7 figure Omar Bogle, yeah we don't need any of those.

if they are any good we had better get in quick or else Barnsley will sign them-the trialists are in theory getting a trial for both teams

Danny Rowe of Fylde has 45 goals this season so far and avergaes more than one per game. He'll be getting very well paid at Fylde though as they're bankrollered by big money.
There are so many gems out there below that level though who probably just haven't had the right chance or met the right people.
