There's been a lot of mentions of MB's 'Listen' mannerism and I've been wondering how the forum feels about it (apart of course from taking the p1ss) I've put a couple of suggestions into the attached poll but please provide any other theories and I'll add them BTW the word was used 3 times in the post Notts County interview, but not once in the transcript on the GTFC web site (btw previous transcripts have included it, including the post Exeter interview)

Pointless Poll - its a habit thing spoken by both players and managers in football. Similar to "to be fair" thats also often used. Sorry - but I shall not be voting.

Could you re-do the thread and add "This makes no fuckin difference whatsoever"" to the options.

What a stupid poll.
It's just a mannerism of his. Just like some say "you know" at the end of every sentence or use clichés like "at the end of the day" etc etc.

OK fair enough poll removed - I was just interested in whether people thought it was just a mannerism or a sign of arrogance For what it's worth about 70% of people thought it was the former and 15% the latter

He also says "to be honest" and "for me" and my favourite "The BP". Hursty used to say "100%" and "keep us shape" and Fenty says "when all said and done" and "in the building". Everyone does it.

Not as bad as some phrases continually used in interviews you know what I mean..

Listen, this thread is completely pointless. For me it doesn't matter what phrases are commonly used all that matters is the manager gives an honest opinion and the players put in a performance to excite the fans and get the BP rocking.

Considered a fill-in word in this context. Better to say 'Listen' than 'Errrr'
When people say 'you get me', 'you know' or 'you understand' at the end of sentences irritate me as I speak English and am consciously listening to them speak

Aidan O'Brien the leading racehorse trainer uses the word listen many many times whilst being interviewed. If Marcus is half as succesful as him he can say it every other work it wouldn't bother me at all. Let's get off Marcus's back he is doing a great job. Can't wait to see his team when all the players are his picks. UTM

That's exactly what it is, a delaying tactic to buy more thinking time, as is erm and the classic is pardon, which gives even more time as the questioner has to repeat the question.

In Bristol the locals use 'mind' mid sentence. Then add a 'l' or two onto the work. So 'Marcus Bignalll mind init my baba' would be common place

The west side of the town. We'll probably then draw the line down to Market Rasen, then down to Woodall Spa and across to the Wash.

Come on folks embrace the gaffer. Most on here moaned about how dull PH was, now we have someone who shows some personality and a bit of humour and some people still want to have a go. Savour the moments like his Jurgen Klopp celebration along the touch line when the second goal went in on Sat. Listen, look, long may it continue.
