Have the draft accounts been emailed to shareholders yet? I'm nosey and would like to see them if there's a pdf flying about. I see the AGM is end of November so thought they'd be available to browse. If not I guess I'll just have to be patient.

edit: they're out now

>£4million in debt. Down slightly on last year.

Income last year was up £455k which was about 20% which is amazing. Match receipts + £180k, TV + £80k. Nearly +£200k on commercial income.

Extra employment costs swallowed up £300k of that. Part-time and match day staff numbers both down and full-time only up by 2 (Warrington plus?) so assume most of increase was on promotion bonuses.

Average attendance up from 3561 to 4345. We're currently averaging 5075 (League only) so a similar % increase on last year but at higher prices.

I don't profess to know much about accountancy and running a PLC, so i haven't had a look at it, but looking at Kingston's post 10 minutes after reading about Gareth Bales new contract brought home how staggering the gap is between the top and bottom of the game now. We made a £60,000 profit and he is being paid £600,000 per week. Just one player, in one week earns 10 times our annual profit.

I am definitely no accountant but with a profit of nearly £60k am I right in saying this in effect comes from an increase in purchase of shares by lee Mullen of £70k?

Also notice that the loans from Directors has reduced marginally by nearly £35k. Does this mean JSF has taken a reduction in his benign loan or does this relate to any other Director getting their money back????

Good summing up by KM.

Disappointing, though, that the accounts don't carry more detail.

Perhaps additional info  will be forthcoming at the shareholders' meeting later this month

So, if we hadn't had the extra income from the Mullens shares and Operation Promotion, would we have we made a loss?

I am amazed at the lack of money two Wembley trips spat out not anything to do with ticket sales but more the merchandise.I would have expected Town to shift loads of extra shirts, scarves, hats etc with 3-4 times the average gate going to both games?

It basically says on the os that we would have just broken even if it hadn't been for the Shrewsbury TV money. I think that was around 80k?

Think a lot of it went on bonuses?

Dont have a problem with that tbh, if someone plays most of the games and we end up getting promoted then as the club benefits from higher profile and income why shouldnt the players and (football) staff share in that?

How does the bonus system work these days? Is it a match-by-match basis or does it hinge on end-of-season achievement (i.e. position in table, promotion etc)?

I guess there was a scheme put in place to reward the footballing side to benefit if they achieved promotion. I doubt they would have been incentivised to finish in the top 8, as an example?

Don't forget we was at Wembley the year before, the drifters (not the band) would have purchased merchandise the previously year, not going to fork out again this year.

Potential merchandise from the Wembley trips took a massive hit as the club didn't sell the tickets directly from BP.

Walsall recorded a profit for the eleventh successive season, that's why its so important we have a new stadium to generate income from other sources than just match days.

Share sales wouldn't count as income. Would go on the balance sheet not the profit and loss. Increase in called up share capital was about £100k.

Not sure about how the OP money would be treated in the accounts. Suspect that's also balance sheet. Player registrations are considered intangible fixed assets - there was an increase of £33k 'amortised' by £11k a year (the notes say this is in equal instalments over the life of the player's contract, so given that's 3 years I assume we paid £33k for Omar). Though what's happened to the other £77k is anyone's guess. There's an increase of 'cash at bank/in hand' of a similar number but that might be coincidence. I don't think it's shown in income because that increase seems to relate to increases in TV, commercial income and the rise in gate money looks proportional to the increased attendance.

Maybe someone can help us get our facts right.

It all depends on who owns the ground and how non-ticket revenue is allocated. My local club don't own the lease to their ground and non-matchday income goes to their landlord.

But where DID the OP money go. Have we been told and I've missed it or am I just thick or naive ?. It would be nice to be told officially eg £50K Bogle, £20 Straker, £5 hot dog sellers birthday party etc. We are not all accountants.

We have been over this countless times but most of us happily gave that money to secure Promotion and handed it over trusting the Club to use the money wisely and never wanted a detailed statement of every last penny.Mission accomplished regarding OP why cant you start a debate on something meaningful like flask access FFS

You are awful    But if we hadn't been to Wembley twice, had an  increase in gate money, increase in tv revenue , increase in commercial sales plus OP money we would have been truly in the shite The promotion bonus must have been a bloody good one, yet we couldn't keep our manager, and major players who contributed enormously. You don't have to be nasty you nasty man

I would imagine that the OP money just went into the playing budget. So maybe it allowed us to sign a couple of extra players for the squad, or the fee for Bogle and one extra player etc. We may have failed to get promoted with the extra money or still got promoted without it, who knows? Thing is, we gave it and we can say that it played a part in us getting back into the league, whether it actually did or not.

The quote below from Stephen Marley worries me. Sounds like we expected to break even and ended up with a profit of £60,000. I would expect Bob Marley to have a better grasp of our finances than that.

"Appearing at Wembley isn't quite as lucrative as it would appear from the outside, so when we first sat down and talked about it, we expected to about break even this year, so we're happy enough to have actually turned a small profit."

I'm no accountant but you'd hope our profits would increase again next year, crowds up by over 10% again, season ticket sales up by nearly 20% with an increased price, you'd therefore imagaine an increase in promotion based paraphernalia sales.

Probably a bigger wage bill though and less chance of going to Wembley, though if we do manage to make the play off finals, it should be way more lucrative than against FGR.

I would expect increased police costs and wages to eat up any increase in gate receipts. Also very little chance of being on TV unless we reach the play-offs.

According to the powers that be, we do well to break even at Wembley. And has been pointed out previously, the club shop doesn't really do that well out of it either. !!!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

A video of it is on Mariners Player. Not much happened.

Sort of highlights :

John Fenty said Collins would be here to the end of the season and he is hopeful for longer than that.

The Council have received a business plan regarding the new stadium and supposedly considering it at a cabinet meeting 30th November (but I can't see on the council's schedule)

Neil Woods knows Marcus Bignot well from time in the Midlands with Walsall

There's a few other bits but I think those were the main points after the rather dull formal meeting.
