As usual an excellent post. I agree.
I would add though that I'm astonished at the size of the gamble from Shrewsbury on a man with 10 minutes of league management experience to his name and I think they are likely to find themselves relegated. I care not either way.

I sort of wish Hurst well, but what he and Doig did on Saturday eroded a fair amount of respect I had for them. After the ill prepared, non scoring team folded pathetically, a coward sent out a liar to be his fall guy and answer the inevitable questions he didn't have the guts to take responsibility for - and this a strategy from a man who's big on honesty.

Agree with all of this - never a fan of Hurst but what he and Doig did on Saturday eroded any respect I had for them too. I also take issue with the fact that they were in the building at all on Saturday - we basically tossed away an opportunity to beat a pretty average team of cynical tossbags.

Putting 2 and 2 together, after was has been said not just today but the last few weeks,

I think and I could be wrong that honest John told Hurst he could have a fitness coach again,

Then backtracked and said you can have one if he works for free,

Hence the little dig about working with honest people.

Cheers then lads. Good luck with the new job.

Should that not be our Board's responsibility to make sure that situation didn't happen this past weekend though?

I.e. the board should've placed Hurst and Doig on gardening leave. As has happened at other clubs in similar situations in the past.

I wouldn't quit my current job unless I had my next job set in stone. So I guess Hurst/Doig were never going to just resign in case Shrewsbury went for somebody else at the last minute. And they wouldn't have wanted to come public saying they wanted the Shrewsbury job in case it fell through, because in that case they'd have wanted to stay here (even if they wanted out they've still got bills to pay).

Mate he could have come out and said whatever he liked. That's his responsibility. If you're going to get into that situation at least have the guts to come out and handle it, or just decline to be interviewed at all as a second best. To send out Doig for that mumbling debacle just made a mockery of the club and insulted its supporters.

I agree - they should have been nowhere near the team on Saturday so yes, the club called that wrong. It cost us yet another home defeat to a 'nothing team'. Waste of time and money and an insult to our intelligence and loyalty.

The one good thing to come out of this is the hope that we might now finally see an end to the pathetic and toothless home tactics we've had to suffer these last few years.

Agree. That interview by Doig, who must have known what was going on, was derisory. Hurst never did like 'difficult' questions from JT. So both have lost a massive amount of respect. It would have been better for neither of them to appear or to 'no comment' the question.

Then they resign before the announcement that they'd got the Shrews job. Does that mean they had it in the bag already and were doing what Scott & Hurst did at Boston when tapped up by Fenty?

And had Shrewsbury really not approached GTFC on Friday when that statement was made? So when exactly did Shrewsbury make the approach - after the match on Saturday?!

None of the parties involved comes out of this one well.

In future GTFC would be better off with a policy of refusing to comment at all on any personnel changes until they happen. Just creating hostages to fortune.
