In case anyone was thinking of going A46 to the M1 today, its just been on the radio that the Newark Bypass is closed due to a serious accident and won't reopen until at least 1pm  and traffic is being diverted through Newark. Best to avoid I would say and stick to M180, M18 route.

Shorter maybe but I doubt it would be quicker than going motorway. You could go A46 then down the A1 but the closure of the Newark bypass will be affecting the junction with the A1 too I would have thought.

Long delays on the Lincoln to Newark stretch now too apparently because of the knock on effect of the Newark Bypass accident.

Quoted Text
The A46 from Lincoln towards Leicester is closed between the junctions with the A1 and the A6097, due to a serious accident. Road expected to re-open from 3:00 pm.

That's the latest of the live traffic update site mate. Obviously don't know how bad it actually is but best to avoid I reckon.

Try A46 to Lincoln, through Lincoln then  A16 Sleaford. Turn right a few miles before Sleaford through Cranwell village and RAF Cranwell. At A17 just after RAF Cranwell turn right and immediately left at Byard's Leap.  Go straight on for miles through Ancaster taking signs for Colsterworth. At Colsterworth you reach the A1. It's a good straight road(the Roman Ermine Street) and definitely better than going down from Grimsby as far as Boston.

I used to live a few miles away from their place and every time I went up and down the country, the Ancaster route is what I always took....never any problems with congestion.

I used to go from Lincoln towards Grantham though rather than via Sleaford, getting off at Navenby, so you miss any congestion in towns

A couple of hours run at most from GY
