I'm up for their return - I seem to remember we didn't have bad records on some of these pitches including a 3-1 win on the first day of the season at PNE (early 90s)?

I'm intrigued in particular about the one planned for Wycombe. They share their ground with London Wasps; if the rugby players can ruck and maul on the pitch then it's not going to affect football players on the friction burn front........

The new 3G pitches are quite good, however I think football should always be played on proper grass.

Football is meant to be played on grass,

If any club or clubs want artificial, they can bog off and form a league of their own.

Agreed.

Was it QPR or Luton that played for a season with artificial turf? The players couldn't turn because the "grass" gripped their studs so they had to wear trainers. I seem to remember some wearing tights or tracksuits to avoid the burns as well.

It might be better these days but to me it's still Asdaturf.

Oldham's plastic pitch was pretty much the main reason why they made the 1st division in the late 80's. It would cut down on postponments but I remain commited to football being played on grass.

I Ref on the 3g at Bradley on a regular basis and find as a ref its good, but what a mess in the changing room afterwards due to the little black nibbles. If I do not empty my boots of them at half time they would hurt in the second half. As for the football I personally feel that the ball does not bounce as much and teams seem to want to play the ball on the floor alot more which is also good. Sliding tackles are very rare and the game does seem slower.

Agree with all the arguments against...though would a flat and clean pitch actually encourage good football, pass and move and so on. Which may benefit or would have benefitted teams such as ourselves?
