hmm very strange they have allowed charity matches to be played at BP before so why the change of heart now? in 2009 a game was played their to raise money for help for heros and the solider was a GTFC fan

I can't promise anything about participation, but I could ask on the main Leicester forums if they fancied putting a team together; especially if you're considering a summer min-tournament.

Cleethorpes in the summer might sway a few.

Great idea by the way.

The first event I organised after coming out of hospital in 2008 after my brain tumour op was a football knockout tournament. I'm also involved in local sunday league football and I managed to get 8 teams who played in a knockout style competition. All players involved donated £5 and the games were 11-a-side games played on full size pitches but were only 25 minutes each way so that everything was done on the same day. 4 local refs also donated their time for free.

It was held at The Stamford Club (as 2 pitches were needed) and there was a burger van and an ice cream van on the day. Both said they would donate £50 plus a share of any profit. The burger van guy gave me £90 but the ice cream man just buggered off at the end of the day, never to be seen again.

We had a couple of buckets on the bar for loose change and someone walking around the pitches with one too. A raffle was also arranged for after the tournament and there were about 40 prizes, all of which were donated. At the end of the day we raised over £1800 for Brain Tumour UK. I was hoping to make it an annual event but couldn't find anywhere suitable to hold it the following year.

Maybe we could do something similar along these lines as it could be held at Bradley now that they have a bar and cafe facilites there now. It did take a lot of organising and I had 3 others to help out. I'm willing to get involved again but at the minute I don't really want to be taking the main responsibility as I'm not 100% health wise at the minute but I'd help out in any way I could if anyone wants to take on the main responsibility.

57 years old, and 250 miles away, so can't possibly contemplate playing1 Would like to be part of it though, and if and when the game goes ahead (in aid of charity?) put me down for £10. Can a charitable account be set up via Payapl to enable this? Did Matty's folks ask for donations at the funeral? If so, then any money raised should be directed there?

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.

A mini tournament sounds a good idea as some of the family members might come over and play i.e 6 or 7 a side 10 mins each way. If say you get 32 teams involved base it on the champions league format 8 groups of 4 teams in the league everyone plays each other, the top 2 teams in each league then goes into a ko phase. I know i would like to play in it the only thing is not played footie for 30 yrs, we had a knock about in the beer garden after the funeral, and i will be the first to admit i was f@@@@@@@.
It is also planned next year to do a sponsored bike ride for Matts charity next year, we have 2 routes in mind the first one is from the QMC in Nottingham where Matt was treated, back to his home in Louth.
The second one is from where Matt used to like to go when he was young,  and the last place he went with his mates this year Blackpool Tower to Grimsby Fish dock tower but finishing at BP.
