                          Arthur

                            Arthur
Silk          Kempo              Pearson        Ridley

Coulson         Church           Disley         Eagle (new signing?)

                   Hearn            Connell

I expect it to be that but would prefer a 4-3-3 even though Coulson may not fit into that system (unless Connell goes)

Against the lesser teams in the league who lack pace up front it might benefit town to play 3 at the back, as most teams will probably sit back it would help with a few more bodies in an attacking role.
Then against teams such as fleetwood darlo etc play 4-4-2 where the teams with the best players will come out on top,not as much tactical as we will have to be against the weaker sides.

Kempson or Garner?
Tough one. Maybe will depend on who we're playing?

I guess pre-season friendlies will help the managers decide. Wouldn't be suprised if Kempo and Garner are first choice to start with, with Pearson keeping them on their toes. Could also start with a midfield of Wood and Disley with Church pushing. Not forgetting Artus, too.

Ah God knows...let's be honest, most of us have barely seen any of the new players play before...time will tell.

First Post.

Really do think we should change the formations each week depending on the opposition teams.
Sometimes where they have crap forwards, put 3 at the back so we put them on constant pressure.

But on most games we should play this.

  Kenny Arthur
Lee Ridley  Scott Garner  Darran Kempson    Gary Silk

Craig Disley Anthony Church  Michael Coulson

                         Liam Hearn
            Damian Spencer   Alan Connell

This would be one of the best squads we have had in years, lets just hope they play well together, Which we also have a really strong bench who can change the game - Players such as Bradley Wood, I'anson and Makofo(Lol Joke)

I think there is a good chance that Kempson will start as he was stated as a serious contender for the captaincy by Hurst

..............Arthur
Silk Pearson Kempson Ridley
........Church Wood
....Coulson Disley Eagle
..............Hearn

Subs: McKeown, Garner, Thanoj, Artus, Spencer

Disley as skipper

I'm not gonna say the starting 11 because I want to judge all the players first before what I think would be the best 11.

Why has not one person included Artus in their team? And many have included Eagle who lets be honest, was pretty poo towards the end of the season.

Good job you're not in charge for the pre-season friendlies

Quoted from AdamHaddock

..............Arthur
Silk Pearson Kempson Ridley
........Church Wood
....Coulson Disley Eagle
..............Hearn

There's something about this formation I really like cos I don't particularly like Coulson and Eagle as out and out wide midfielders.
But also slightly concerned they could be forever chasing out wide.
So I've gone with a 3-5-2 variation with wide midfielders doing a job of covering back (could be ideal for Wood).

....................Arthur
..^.....Garner Pearson Kempson....^
...|..................................................|
Wood.............Disley....................Artus
..........Coulson..........Eagle..............
.......................................................
..........Spencer...Hearn/Alan..

If Coulson and Eagle push out wide into attack, Wood and Artus tuck inside into their positions and voila ! 3-3-4

Actually, isn't that "total football" the Dutch play where they fill teamates positions ? Or do they just learn every position ?
I hope that's also the kind of thing the managers mean when they talk about "interchangeable positions".

In fact you can almost sod 3 at the back, go with 2 and wack on another striker in a 2-5-3 !

....................Arthur
..^......Garner .........Kempson........^
...|..................................................|
Wood.............Disley....................Artus
..........Coulson..........Eagle..............
.....................Connell.....................
..........Spencer.........Hearn..

I think duffy might be in the squad a little more than you guys think. Next season duffy will perform well and score goals, when needed.... mark my words. When he played for us last season he looked off the pace more than anything but with HandS getting him ultra fit he will be a good asset.

To clarify, what I read from them when we signed him was that most his goals were penalties and that he was lazy and had a poor attitude.

Did they mention that he'd miss plenty of sitters for us from 2  yards out, can't remember?

I don't think they said that specifically but they said most his goals were penalties which maybe suggests he ain't great at finishing from open play.

I could be wrong and if I am I'll hold my hands up but I'm fairly certain that I read it on here and I know a Mansfield supporting friend of mine said he was lazy and had a poor attitude.

Didn't want to start a new thread incase there was any moaners, although I thought it was worthy of a new one.

"It may not be a direct replacement; it may be a different type of striker who fits in with the 4-3-3 formation we like." - Hurst in today's telegraph.

Not long ago he said something along the lines of "5 strikers to compete for 2 places". So, change of heart? Looks like we may now be playing 4-3-3? I guess that's what pre-season is for.

Well with that in mind:

                                                           Arthur

Silk         Garner (kemps inj)      Pearson    Ridley

                                        Disley        Church     Artus

                                         Coulson    Hearn   Spencer

I actually think we should start I'anson today, don't want him slipping back into a fringe player mindset. Him and Garner, with Pearson coming on at half time

I think it is hard to disagree with that lineup. Spencer sounds a solid hardworking target man/forward. Hearn sounds prolific and I think Coulson has earnt his position in the starting line up.

Midfield will be an interesting one. Wood and Thanoj will certainly be pushing for a place. The only guaranteed starter is probably Disley though apparently Church is very vocal which could come in handy.

I think that is a very solid line up, even without Connell. Good backup up front and I'd be pretty confident of challenging for the league.
