It’s tough when long-standing relationships like that break down, but history suggests it was the right decision to replace him with Crocombe when he did.

Somewhere along the line McKeown lost his mojo; that doesn’t detract from all the great years he gave us beforehand.

Having seen him a couple of times for Cleethorpes Town, it's hard to disagree that releasing him was wrong. It is a real shame how it ended up for him, I believe he struggled with a back injury last season but Sam Russell signing a 3 year deal and wanting to continue playing, amongst all the other chaos that came with Runaway can't have helped him at all. He was the PFA representative for the club when the Covid clauses and pay cuts were being dished out too.

Macca?

The clue was in the description 'Goalkeeping coach', not shot stopper, don't get me wrong Macca was a good servant, but his position was never really challenge, expect when Henderson came and then Crocombe.

The relationship is probably sour between himself and Hurst, not the club, given how last season panned out for him.

It's not just Hurst. He's very unhappy with how the club dealt with him in his final season. Zero chance of him coming back as a coach in the near future.

Why is he unhappy? What did he expect the club to do What they didn't do

I have a lot of respect for Macca, I'm not sure why he would be unhappy, in relative terms earned good money, first choice when in form, dropped when there was a better alternative. Contract expired and wasn't retained. That's what happens in football isn't it?

Maybe it relates to the fact that it was also his testimonial year and being out the team may have affected certain fund raising efforts or maybe the club were not as supportive of these events as he would have wanted?

All guesswork on my part but shame it ended on a bad footing but he’s not the first and won’t be the last to have mixed feelings towards a former employer.
