5 Cup wins, a national record for beating higher league teams.   8 goals against champions Plymouth and Luton ( 3rd and maybe PL next season).

The extra games probably reduced the number of league points that we could have achieved.  The shorter close-season set us back as well.

We had the potential, which clearly showed in the impressive cup wins.  But I never really thought though that we were promotion material.

Closer to promotion next season hopefully.

Wasn't it 10 goals against Plymouth and Luton, which makes it even better?

Looking at stats it's been a very good first season back. 11th in league, progressed in tin pot cup, quarter finals.of the fa Cup. I'll look back and see the positives and memories I made with a few away games I went to.
But during the season I found myself frustrated at times due to our line up and substitutes etc. I'm 100% behind the club, owners, manager etc but if I had to bring a negative up it is that.
Results like Swindon away (I was there) aren't things that upset me as we genuinely tried and just got outplayed and done by a team on form on the day (not to mention having 10 men for a long period of time).

Swindon  yes i there too .." Ref what you doing get
GET  up ..!!".10 mins lapse He's off on a stretcher
Ohh dear  keep your mouth shut next time!!
Then the score petrol money & ticket comes to mind on the drive home .End of season thoughts yes happy with that. YES daft as it stands will be tehere at away matches 2- 3 hrs drive from Caterham .

Great to see Orsi at the top of the 'xG+xA per 90' stats...

This league season has been a missed opportunity. Here's the league table of results against Top 8 clubs...

Results against Top 8 teams

                    Pl   Pts  PPG
Leyton Orient       14   27   1.929
Northampton         14   22   1.571
Stockport           14   22   1.571
Bradford            14   22   1.571
Salford             14   22   1.571
Barrow              16   18   1.125
Swindon             16   18   1.125
Mansfield           14   14   1.000
Grimsby             16   16   1.000
Doncaster           16   15   0.938
Harrogate           16   15   0.938
Stevenage           14   13   0.929
Tranmere            16   14   0.875
Walsall             16   13   0.812
Gillingham          16   13   0.812
Carlisle            14   11   0.786
Newport             16   12   0.750
Crawley             16   12   0.750
Rochdale            16   12   0.750
Crewe               16   11   0.688
Colchester          16   11   0.688
Wimbledon           16   11   0.688
Sutton              16    8   0.500
Hartlepool          16    6   0.375

We're joint 8th and had a better record against the top 8 teams who finished well clear of the rest than Stevenage who won promotion and Carlisle who are in the play-offs.

So why did we finish 24 points behind Stevenage & 14 points behind Carlisle when our record against the top 8 was better?

Stevenage won 11 and drew 1 of their 12 home matches against the bottom half clubs. We won 3, drew 5 and lost 4 at BP against the bottom 12 sides. That's a 20 point difference.

Carlisle managed 18 wins & 11 draws from 32 matches against the teams finishing 9th and lower. We managed 13 wins & 6 draws from 30 matches against the other teams finishing 9th and lower. Again that's a 20 point difference.

It goes to show we had the quality to compete against the best teams in League 2, but we threw away too many points against the dross. Such as 2 defeats against Hartlepool United.

Consistency is the key to success in any division and our lack of it cost us a realistic play-off opportunity.

I suppose it's possible that the weaker teams were also the ones more likely to be packed with big, physical units and employ bullyboy tactics. We were physically short and relatively weak in comparison to many teams and certainly were bullied out of lots of games.

Consistency issues certainly there as well, of course. Failure to put away teams when dominating was a serious issue.

We fared well against the better sides, but struggled against the park the bus types.

This was exacerbated by our lack of goals from chances created. I can think of many a game we drew or lost where we missed some glaring chances.

We created less against the sides that shut up shop, so needed to be ruthless when the chances came.

We weren't.

Overall it’s been a success. Lest we forget the play off final took place 6 weeks (?) before the new season started, so this time last year I would have snapped your hand off for 11th in league two and FA cup quarter finals

We keep mentioning Swindon with Charlie Austin and all that, we finished level on points with them.
A lot to look forward to next season me thinks.

They very much capitulated towards the end of the season though, a lot going on off the field there.. too many cooks spoil the broth and all that.

A proper mixed bag.
Not just a great cup run but some fantastic performances in that run also.
League, some really good away performances alot of drab affairs at home.
Finished at a relatively decent position in the league but frustratingly close to play offs , massive failure to not reinforce the strike force in the summer to some extent but more so in January.

On paper I guess you would have took the season end result before we kicked a ball but feels like an opportunity wasted in some respects.
