Agree with you but even more peed off with Hurst now over Friday's selection. This is the team I would like to have watched on Friday, but no us season ticket holders get a makeshift team (won't be disrespectful and say reserve team but that's what they played like)

Yes, completely understand that. I couldn't even watch the last ten minutes so I can only imagine how you felt at BP.

Looks like he picked Fridays team with today in mind, obviously assumed that Hartlepool were an easier game, at home league position, then todays at Donny.

That occured to me also but then again, who is likely to give y ou more trouble, a side desperate not to get relegated who are actually in good form or a team who are actually safe and have nothing to play for? You might be right, though. Either way, UTM, I am going for a 2-1 win today

Great goal, a strike that doesn’t belong in such a poor quality game so far.
On the basis of what we’ve seen from Town it’s hard to see how we’ll get anything, McAtee & Taylor look like they’re playing in a different game.

Once again, player under no real pressure in the box allowed to just take a touch, turn and shoot. Crocombe does well to even get a finger on that

Even if he thought that, surely the Hartlepool game was more important than the Doncaster game? A win on Friday would almost certainly have ensured our safety with the gap being just too big. Now you could argue that we're safe anyway but just for the peace of mind a win in front of a big home crowd sends everybody home happy. But no, the majority of the home fans went away feeling short changed, resentful and miserable.

This is absolutely male masturbation. There's nobody in this starting line up capable of passing accurately to a teammate. It's no wonder we're making an out of form side look like world beaters when we're so slow and ponderous in possession.

He's been by far the best of our three midfielders. Only one capable of actually taking the ball down and attempting to pick out a pass.

Only a world class keeper had a chance of keeping it out. It was Smith, Emmanuel and the midfield switching off at a throw in that allowed their lad the time and space to pick his spot. Great effort but it wouldn't have happened if the players weren't all mentally on their summer holidays already.

The only positive I can take from that half is that we’re playing in the blue kit and getting some use out of it before it gets retired at the end of the season.

We’ve not looked like a settled team for a while now and today has been the same. We just seem have a general lack of cohesion.
Their goal goes down as a great individual effort rather than any sort of lax defending for me. The lad was running away from our goal and still managed to curl it into the top corner.
Whilst nobody has really been good, McAtee has been particularly poor imo. For a player who is supposed to be our talisman he’s been anonymous. Spent most of his time trudging about, sulking and moaning at his teammates.

Awful, just another awful half. Pointless hoofball since we've conceded. Midfield all over the place, McAtee is in I'll do it myself mode again. Just nothing positive to really say after that half again.

Every time we head or kick the ball out of defence it goes to one of their players. At the moment we are getting what we deserve from this game, nothing.
Another huff and puff display from an inept performance. No attack, little to offer in mid field and a barely acceptable defence.

I'm doing similar.
For me Taylor and Green off for Hunt and Lloyd.
County are all over Wrexham from what i've seen (switch on 15mins ago)
Mullins been diving all over the place. If it rains second half he could drown

Their goal goes down as a great individual effort rather than any sort of lax defending for me. The lad was running away from our goal and still managed to curl it into the top
You saw a different goal to me then. What I saw was from a throw in their player was faving away from goal marked by Manny and Green, when he got the ball he turned inside with one touch, took a second to get it out from his feet and then put it in the top corner. Whilst both players marking him just let him drift away. It was another example of our urine poor defending.

For the life of me I can’t see what our game plan is apart from kick the ball up the other end of the pitch and let Donny kick it back and we just bypass our midfield , So bloody frustrating!!!
|
| Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 ) |

Support was great and died down because the players put in yet another dire performance. Don't know if you noticed but the vaunted Anfield support was dead silent when they were 2-0 behind to Arsenal yesterday, and only picked up again once the players gave the fans something to get excited about on the pitch. Maybe the town players should try that and see what happens?

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Was right in front of it and agree it was more of a penalty than a corner since I'm certain Green got none of the ball, however I thought their player made a meal out of it and went down too easily which is why the ref didn't give it.

If you look at this season as a whole I think its clear we failed to improve in the last two transfer windows and weve just been carried by the top grafters from last season who are now probably out of steam. I hope that this current run of form is a bit of a wake up call so that we know we really need to go for it in the next transfer window as if we'd had more of a middlish finish to the season we might have gone into it with some false illusions due to the fa cup run.

Agard controlled ball back to goal 9 times found teammates 7 and turned and shot once Taylor controlled 3 times ball dropped once just a bit beyond McAtee. Other stats fairly equal other than a total lack of successful crosses. Let's hope we do better 2nd half we're not quite out of it yet as for the goal Crocombe had no chance just rubbish defending from the throw

We do not have a passing game again, and this has been the same for several weeks now.
Professional footballers at any level should be able to trap and pass the ball.
Again, we are chasing around trying to get the ball back after passing errors and making an average side look good.
The Home side commentary is terrible, with a whiney voice alternating with a dead pan main commentator.
It's yet again very poor viewing, and the Town fans must wonder why they shell out hard cash to watch this level of mediocrity.
Defending a yard too slow has put 3 players on bookings.
Only consolation is Scunny losing again !!

It's about time we had our own songs.
I know the game is poor mate but if all your concerned about is slagging your own support off for their song selection after they’ve paid and travelled to an away game regardless of the distance you’ve probably given those who take the p1ss out of this forum plenty to go at. What would you prefer a couple of choruses of the song referencing Peter Sutcliff or maybe a round of In the Yorkshire Slums.

The only absolutely certain thing is that our fans are giving the team it all. Quite after the call but bursting into song again. Looking at the empty seats you do have to wonder why the limit on tickets was under 3,000.

It honestly makes me think that the effort our supporters out in means nothing to the players after watching this today . Like players must dream about playing infront of a packed stands in in the lower leagues yet it never seems to be reflected in performances. I don’t think there’s many players in this squad would make it into a top 5 team next season

Because he was very overweight when we had him and Hurst didn't like his work rate.

Andy Cook scored again. Why did we release him?
Because 7 years or so ago he was pretty average.

A fully undeserved equaliser, but I'll happily take it.

I think the whole game if footballs copulated now as an entertainment sport . We’re watching an end of season nothing game and the home team is 1-0 up and intent on wasting time from the 45th minute .
Ok now it’s time to give them a lesson in time wasting and shithousery 😂

Where did we get that impetus from?
By employing a manager who has assembled a squad in limited time that, although a touch short in quality, never gives up and actually care about the club.

Absolutely revitalised by hooking McAtee and Taylor for Orsi and Lloyd. We finally started winning second balls and getting in behind with their movement. Deserved victory after Donny seemed content with time wasting at every opportunity when 1-0 up. Another Hurst away masterclass

Well done to all. Amazing what can be done when we get the ball down and play.
Exactly, it’s not to hard for the players to understand that if you keep the ball down and on the floor and pass to a player with the same colour shirt as you then you have more chance of it getting to him than booting the ball upfield and hoping it reaches one of your teammates with a lucky bounce. We managed to play to feet for the last 15 minutes and it worked UTM
|

Thanks for that. I usually check out Town's twitter but nothing on it. not even a thank you to the travelling fans. This is not the first time this season that the travelling fans have not been thanked by a club spokesperson on twitter.

Four clubs on 51 points now. If we had a better home record we would be in the play-offs, possibly. Doncaster have lost five on the bounce now. We now have two home games on the trot and must make them count. PH can set the team up to attack in these games, as we are now safe. Hope he does. Cannot see McAtee getting a starting place at Luton. He has been disappointing for us this season and Luton could be in the PL next year - they look certain be in the play-offs at least.

McAtee is at a real crossroads in his career right now. We've all seen his ability but that's 8 goals in 3 seasons in League football and he's not showing nearly enough to indicate he's going to be even a good lower division footballer at present.
He should be one of the better players in the division. He's not even the best player in a mid-table team at present.
The question is, what does he need to do to make the improvement? I suspect another loan period for him next season as Luton won't need him as things stand, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up. I have to say, I'd be surprised if he came back here again.
A move elsewhere may be the making of him.

I can never thank John enough for what he did last season, particularly given that he played through that shoulder injury, but he needs to fulfil his potential. I don’t think that will be at GTFC or, more sadly, at the level his ability warrants.

Well....that was fking terrible for 80 odd mins. Odd selection again in shape/ personnel. Half time shape change helped us to move forward but zero quality all over and lack of link ups.
Orsi and Lloyd gave us movement, running in behind and link ups and impetus.
Largely undeserved 3 points but that's football.

I can never thank John enough for what he did last season, particularly given that he played through that shoulder injury, but he needs to fulfil his potential. I don’t think that will be at GTFC or, more sadly, at the level his ability warrants.
He needs the ball played to his feet which didn’t happen today, he is still enthusiastic but he has been nothing like he was last season.
|

Did we get lucky? The match stats indicate we dominated most areas - shots, shots on target, more possession, more corners.

If Luton did not sign McAfee when they did they would not have signed him on this season's form.
Maybe we could buy him back at a cut price but would we want him.?
Possibly he might regain last season's form if his head is concentrated soley on GTFC.

He’s got a lot of work to do to impress Rob Edwards who wasn’t the manager when he signed. I’d expect to see him loaned out to a L1 club next season especially if they go up. He’s clearly a good lad, I wish him well and I’d expect him to prosper if he ends up in an environment where he’s not one of the best players yet.

We are now level on points with Swindon, who everyone said were lightyears ahead of us!
Yeah, but they have an inherent disadvantage by giving Jody Morris the manager's job

Is it too much to ask that we aspire towards a bit of originality? Hartlepool came Friday, singing that silly Liverpool song with the daft hand clap, by Monday we are doing the same. Tinpot I quite enjoyed the game and the 2nd half performance.

We were singing that weeks ago. The team that finished the game should start on Saturday.

Excellent post. I’d love to see him succeed at Luton but frankly, I’d be amazed if he gets anywhere near the first team. He has the makings of a decent league 2 striker but lack of pace and his tendency to be greedy will always hold him back. Luton did us a favour.

Without being pedantic, he’s not at a crossroads. It’s actually a T junction.

Pfft! Hurst always bringing subs on too late.
Twenty five minutes late Both Taylor and Mactee needed hauling off on the hour. Fortunately 9 minutes added time meant he get away with it but I am giving him no credit for that . Obvious to all present what was needed long before he did it .

Are you giving him any credit for bringing Khan on and changing shape at half time? We were certainly more dominant in the second half.

Yes certainly didn’t need three centre backs the way Donny were set up and with Waterfall booked and a trigger happy ref it wasn’t to difficult a decision

So you concede that Hurst has the ability to make a positive tactical impact during a game? Good to know you're willing to give credit where credit's due.

Whichever way you look at it, it was two really poor sides. One win changes nothing, we need a manager capable of assembling a squad that both entertains and can slug it out at the top of the table. Hurst isn’t that person I’m afraid, 40 games in and he still doesn’t know his best 11. Every squad should have squad players pushing for the first team, we have squad players that’ll only get a kick if one of Hursts favourites is playing so bad that even he can’t pick them.
I’m sure my dose of reality will draw the usual swathe of red crosses, I don’t actually care, I’ve never been one for soldiering on regardless without a clear plan. If you are then that’s your prerogative, you’ll probably get your way and Hurst will still be here in 12 months, let’s re-visit this post then.

Come now chaps, 14 minutes on and 6 crosses yet not one counter argument? Surely you can do better. Yes I appreciate I’m not Poojah who a lot of you seem to get an involuntary erection at every word, or a contradictory Ginnywings who doesn’t appear to be able to work out which way a lift is going even given two guesses. But please offer a counter argument, I really am intrigued.

Who are Hurst’s favourites? Only Smith, Green and Maher have started the last three matches. Since losing to Brighton, Hurst has generally given most of the squad a chance; partially due to fatigue.

Your “dose of reality” is that we need a manager who can assemble a passing team that can also slug it out when it has to and also challenges at the top of the table? If only JS and AP could think up these kinds of ideas.

Hello, and apologies for going off to do something else that doesn't involve football. So, this lift. Is it a normal up and downy type lift, or is it a Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator type, which can go into space and fly around the world? You said in an earlier post that PH doesn't know his best 11, and also that the only way squad players can get a game is if his favourites play so badly he has no choice but to replace them. Bit of a contradictory statement is that. Besides, there is no best 11 that is all things to all people in every game, which is why you have a squad and rotate players according to form, fitness, availability, opposition, and formation.

Fenty or one of his mates ? We should have a decent player budget next season after our cup run and let's not forget Hurst did wonders at turning Shrewsbury around. I'm not normally a betting man but I think I might have a small bet on Town getting promoted next season, should be decent odds.

Because 7 years or so ago he was pretty average.
My recollection was he finished one of his seasons with us as top scorer and was the National League Young Player of the Year (might have got that wrong, but that’s my recollection). I think he always had the potential and I for one was disappointed to see us let him go.

Given the resources available to him, Hurst has assembled a pretty decent squad who, on their day, are capable of beating most teams in this league. Also there's the slight issue that players do have the choice not to come here - or had you perhaps forgotten that tiny detail? And how do you know he doesn't know his best eleven? Even if he did would you be expecting him to send out the same team for 50-odd league and cup games during the season? We live in an age of squad rotation which means players need to be rested from time to time. Your lack of understanding of the modern game is quite alarming, so maybe it's best if you keep your primitive thoughts to yourself. I was at the game yesterday which was turned on its head when Hurst made that double substitution near the end by hauling off McAtee and Taylor (who would no doubt have featured in most people's "best 11"). From that moment we played the ball to feet at a higher tempo with Lloyd and Orsi making great runs to hold the ball up and bringing others into play. At that stage there was only going to be one winner. Never write off this squad - even after the dreadful display on Good Friday. You never know when the spirit of last year's play-offs will rear up and take you by surprise!

For almost a decade Hurst manages to pull off a win when hanging on by his cuticles. On that basis I knew we would win this match. I don’t think we were actually that bad in this particular match. Their goal was world class. We worked hard but all a bit backwards and side to side. Finesse is the missing ingredient, a couple of playmaking midfielders and two mischievous and strong strikers will make the best cake ever! Superb support at the match. Been to some disappointing away matches throughout the season but this, Walsall, Northampton, Luton and Southampton was what makes it all worth while watching Grimsby. As for a few in the media stating “first win at Doncaster since 1989.” That makes it sound awful but actually it’s only been about four matches. Anyone can play with statistics! I’ll prove that right now. Overall - GRIMSBY 21 wins, Doncaster 17.
