My Son asked me this morning if Grimsby had ever played against a World Cup Winner in the modern era ? . I couldn't think of one . Anyone know of any ?

Not a winner but we’ve also played a ‘team of the tournament’ player in Edgar Davids when he was at Barnet.

Presumably Michael Owen is the only Ballon d’or winner we’ve played against?

This is definitely correct, played in all 3 cup games against us in 1978. I was at the 1st and 3rd of those games. I distinctly remember the Pontoon singing a song that claimed AB liked to pleasure himself and then my Mum asking me what they were singing when we got home.
