Few changes and no Waterfall. Must be the injured player PH spoke about.

No McAtee either, so not clear whose injured and whose rested.

Four at the back, so all change for this one.

Not complaining, but that doesn't look to be our strongest 11, so I'd take a draw too.

I'm a bit worried that Waterfall isn't in the squad, he is our rock in defence.  If he is injured, I'm hoping he won't be out for too long.

Absolutely the right thing to do, the starting 11 is still ok, a draw would be a really good outcome.

Clearly the Newport game on Tuesday will see the return of a few as that’s on paper at least a better chance of a win.

The lineup will show what O'Neil. Lloyd and TDP can do it upfront. I agree with others that a draw would be a good result today, that said being an optimist I still predicted a win.

Guess the formation anyone? I understand the sweeping changes after Tuesdays performance, but I can't work out if its 442, 433 or a 4222

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

4231?

Hunt Morris. Then Khan left, O'Neil centre, D-P right with Lloyd upfront.

I like the look of that. Apart from Max, Michee, and Niall suspect all the others will feel they haven’t played as many games this year as they’d have liked. Some due to injury, some because they’ve not been picked.  They’ll hopefully be keen to make a point and get more starts.

could be 4-1-4-1 ...but then again 4-2-3-1...or even 4-1-3-2 which I don't think we've ever played.

In essence, I don't know either.

Edit: BBC have us 3-4-3 (but they're usually wrong)

7 changes and a change of formation to boot, by the looks of it. Renders Carlisle’s scouting and hopefully game plan a bit useless.

A similar approach worked successfully for Marcus Bignot at Brunton Park a few years back.

Lots saying they think it's a four at the back, but I have a feeling it might be our usual three at the back with Khan as a wing back (believe he played there for Leyton Orient)

Crocombe
Efete Smith Maher
Khan Hunt Morris Amos
ONeil
TDP Lloyd

OR

Crocombe
Smith Maher Amos
Efete Hunt Morris Khan
ONeil
TDP Lloyd

We will see!

Calling anything Bignot did an approach is a bit of a stretch. More like a random application of chaos theory imho.

Yeah, you could be right there. Suspect that either way, Khan will need to be tracking back to help out.

Amos can move across to left CB and Efete the same on the other side.

Fluid formation at least.

Imagine if they win 2/3-0 today... massive headaches for PH.
For me, I know we're not mathematically safe but today's game is about resting a few legs and giving a few others a fair crack.

I don't think scouting is much use when the opposition's manager uses a random number generator for team selection and formation...

Town currently playing well, and challenging for everything.

Floyd unlucky , but a good save.

Certainly a game that could be won if they keep on like this.

Just had a good save from Crocombe.

Town's ground passing is much improved today - nothing too fancy !

Good open game so far !

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

40mins in .... so far for me 4 of the lads that have come in are doing well and as a team we're knocking it about well and have had the better chances even though we're 1 0 down.
Dickson Peters and ONiell are invisible. Lloyd needs more support, for me I'd make a couple of attacking changes at half time

Hunt has suddenly gone right off the boil and keep making poor passes or being caught ball watching - lost confidence !!

Maybe in need of a half time sub ?

Shocking refereeing, complete opposite of last week when the ref stops anything & everything for the slightest look of an injury.

O'Neill and Dickson Peters are absolutely male masturbation. Children playing a men's game. It's like playing with 9 men (and 8 since Hunt gave the ball away for their first and has spent all his time in possession since looking too scared to do anything).

Carlisle nothing special but they've had two chances and finished them clinically. Our finishing all season on the other hand has been poor.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

We were better for the first half an hour and had two decent efforts from Khan and Lloyd but after then they started picking up all the second balls in midfield and have dominated us, culminating in the two goals. We don't have any players in our side today who can finish a chance like the two Carlisle scorers did.

There’s a 4th official and “assistant referees” (f****g linesmen) for a reason!!!!

And the reason is putting the board up and keeping managers in the technical area, complete waste of space.

That goal should have been disallowed, the rules about head injuries are clear, JT is talking rubbish, if the ref didn't see it, then I'm sure the lino must have, and should have informed the ref.

Feels like we are playing with nine men here. World of difference from U23's and it shows. Shame as we were the better team for 30 minutes. Yet another gift that hands them momentum. Amos not tight enough to there player for the second. Taylor on as a minimum.

Amos really needs to improve his positioning, their No 2 has so much space due to Amos going towards the ball all the time.
Hunt looks knackered tbh, TDP is offering absolutely nothing, O'Neil is a bit meh, Khan is getting frustrated and I can't blame him as nothings being fed through to him.
All in all, a proper "after the Lords mayor parade" of a game tbh...

Can JT get rid of his co commentator... so dull and boring. No enthusiasm and he's speaking like he's just woken up and doesn't want to be there.

A shame we're 2 0 down but we're against a team fighting for automatic promotion and we're in 16th spot and made 8 changes. Anyway, we started well but we need to change something (ie the 2 forward players)

Dickson Peters and O'Neil offer nothing. Not sure why Hurst brought them in other than for making up the numbers and allowing others to be rested. Fair enough to an extent but not much use to us really are they if they offer nothing?

PH has given fringe players a chance and it seems they are not taking said chance.

Clearly nowhere near our strongest side, but players need a rest at some point.

Be a miracle if we get anything from this today.

Thought we looked by far the better team for the first 20 mins but looked shocking after that. O Neill barely been mentioned and didn't even realise he was on the pitch for large spells. Dickson Peters looks lost out on the right. Dont think the back 4 is working today

Christ you all wanted him sacked a few months ago. 6th place finish and he's now the messiah and can do no wrong
Update:  I think I've got this right - He was the messiah. He then wasn't. He then was again. Then it turned out he actually wasnt. He turned into one big huge messiah again. Now he's not actually the messiah we thought he was . Now I'm hoping he rises again quickly

Morris looks like a competition winner. Absolutely not league two standard.

What a ridiculous comment. Played all his career in the football league, and once again hasnt done anything wrong today.

Should have sold Morris to Hartlepool when they were interested in him in January. Would have all but confirmed their relegation.

Anyone would think we’d played a historical match that has no doubt taken everything out of them physically and mentally, hence wholesale changes and a poor performance…

Do you have eyes? He's given the ball away about four times in the last five minutes. Are you even at the match?

Positive post...

Game time for Taylor.
Lloyd has done well when he's had half a chance.
PH will now see he cant fully rely on the rest of the fringe players.

All good to get a look at players before the years end to see what we need for the new season.

Just usual Town stuff. Go from giant killers to poor in the league, happened when we beat Liverpool in the cup. Where are all the people who said "They said it was a poor transfer window but I knew!"? Or are your opinions on players performance and the team only based on if we win or not? Stand up and be counted, explain what this new collection of kids brings to us or just admit you have no opinion beyond extreme negative or positive based on the result on any given match day.

Well that's alright then since as we won on Wednesday, we can go through half-hearted motions on Saturday.
Wouldn't it have been better if we just posted three points to Carlisle, and I could have used the time to paint the fence?

Can't fault Hurst as he's worked with what he can get and buffed the squad out. I'm glad for the FA Cup run as I really think it will make the difference with being able to players a little more to get them here over other clubs next year. We won't be in the same spending realms of Stockport ect but expect us to be more towards the top half next year.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

We lost away from home to a side in their best form for some time.

They are currently several places above us in the league, so not really a massive shock or a big deal for me.

Today just goes to show two things. One how poor our January transfer was, we replaced poor youth players with more poor youth players lloyd being the exclusion and how much we are reliant on certain players playing, to make us even appear competative.

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Think we need a touch of reality. Lost to a top three team in good form after chasing Southampton for 90 minutes less than 72 hours ago.
Without Waterfall, McAtee, Clifton etc and two kids chucked in.. This result was inevitable at 22:00 Wednesday

Good first1/2 hour, followed by an hour of being 2nd best.

I wonder what Sean Scannell has to do to get some time on the field ?

If not fit, why name him on the bench?

The passing game just seemed to disintegrate, why can't we just pass to our own players and quicker??

Felt sorry for all of the forwards today - couple of good Floyd chances, and nothing else !

Hunt was great for 30 minutes before giving the ball away for their goal and turning into someone who'd forgotten how to play football. Lloyd did the best he could feeding off scraps and was our only player to actually test their keeper (and hit the post). O'Neill, Dickson Peters and Morris were all junk and shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11. Maher was actually excellent even though we conceded two. Taylor added a lot when he came on and actually made the ball stick up the other end of the pitch for once. Khouri looked very raw in this cameo - combative but his passing was lacking. Brunton Park is a total morgue considering they're in an automatic promotion spot, really underwhelming stuff from their supporters.

No problem with the amount of changes today. Annoying that yet again a poor moment from Hunt completely handed the momentum to them after controlling the game and having two decent chances.
We were never the same from that moment on.
Let's hope the Cup money helps with the recruitment in the summer as we are short of quality in depth.
Maher and Khan takes honourable mentions whilst Morris doesn't look like the same player since his injury.

Im baffled how morris has become a scape goat 🤯 i have seen multiple players give away the ball multiple of times in games and morris is the only one people seem to pick up on ! Its a team sport so single one player out isnt right. Hunt today give away a goal and should of won the header for second goal and poor defending from amos.

Morris was good for everyone when we beat crewe 3-0. Just dont get what he done wrong today other then a few sloppy passes as alot of players do within the the games

I won't pick any one player out but will say I'll be more than happy when Cropper is fit again. There were quite a few players out there today that are nowhere near good enough or ready to be selected for the 1st  eleven.

Morris has become a scapegoat for Tonduer, and I feel like a few have latched onto the narrative that he’s created and just run with it. He’s been no way near as bad as Tonduers commentary portrays him to be.

We could be playing non league, we're not.

Worth remembering that.

This season was just about survival and building for the future.

Squad rotation was always going to be required today.

We move on.

That was absolutely the case away at Gillingham. Morris started poorly and Tondeur criticised him fairly. He then improved though you would have had no idea if you were just listening as Tondeur continued to highlight every minor error, ignore anything he did well and even blame him for things other players had done wrong at times.

Morris attempted 53 passes today and only completed 30 of them. A 57% pass competition percentage is nowhere near good enough from a holding midfielder. Just gave the ball away all match for fun.

Id like to see the stats of everyone midfeilder over games because it isnt just morris who gives the ball away. They all have there days. Hunt cost us id say 2 goals today. He dont get the stick morris does. Holohan was woeful against salford didnt see him get the stick. Morris didnt loose us this game today.

Like you , I was there and agree with all your posts tonight. It's easy for those listening at home to shrug it off as the consequence of Wednesday's heroics but for those who travelled it was frustrating to see the lack of depth, experience and physicality evident once the better players are rested.

Not heard it but Hurst apparently said he had learned more about some of his players, Did he not already know that Dickson Peters looks way behind some of our younger pros? Does he not see how often we are found out when overplaying on the edge of our box?

If Wearne, Scannel, Taylor etc. are only on the bus to get a few minutes, why not the first half hour? Then bring on players from other clubs U21's later?

I raced off a L. District peak to get there in time thinking we would give Carlisle a game at least but we failed to respect the league game over the cup. Bringing Harry, Emmanuel and Taylor on at 2-0  for a little run around served little purpose.

The Fishy and OS barely acknowledged this match all week. Only good thing is we helped Carlisle stay above Stevenage.

Went today, the numbers and volume of our support was impressive when you bear in mind the round trip over the last 2 games has pushed 900 miles!

I have no problem with hursty rotating the squad (i certainly would have) and changing up the formation. In terms of performance I thought maher and Smith played pretty well. Not sure about Amos positioning for their second, Hunt had an absolute stinker though and gave away the first goal and continued in the same vein. Basically after he was subbed morris then took over and was giving it away. They are both prone to that.

Khan showed flashes, Lloyd worked hard and showed the odd glimpses also.

O'Neil and DP seem to be clones of richardson and simmonds, I.e  ultimately not good enough except as squad fillers picking up odd minutes here and there. That is certainly not to say they won't be good enough in future but they aren't yet, albeit oneil/richardson are better than DP/simmonds.

Clifton, emmanuel, Taylor improved us a bit. Efete looked better when moved back into a back 3.

Hurst learns a bit about his squad and hopefully no injuries and we move on

Morris was our best player for a part of the early season. Since his injury, he has not been at the same level.

It happens, but it doesn't mean he is suddenly a sh1t player, as his record to date testifies. Spent a good chunk of his career in League 1.
