After a successful loan he is in contention for Saturday’s trip to face Swindon Town at the County Ground.

........allegedly.

I think either he has officially returned after his loan and will then make the move permanent, or he will go out on loan again somewhere else, or Hurst will not utilise him again, doing a bench warming exercise for every game.

Think with Keke having gone back, BK likely to not hang around and JMD having been shipped out, it's a case of getting bodies into the building. I suspect he'll be on the bench on Saturday.

Funny how some are writing him off because he has been out on loan.

He may have been sent out to get him fit for a run in the side. Give the lad a chance.

Why on earth would we bin him off. Fully expect him to integrate back into the squad.

Hurst was absolutely raving about him in the summer when he signed.

I think he said he could play anywhere along the front line, and extolled his virtues. I rather thought he would be groomed for the McAtee role and I can't see why anything should have changed in a few months.

I thought he was fantastic against Crewe in the League Cup but then didn't quite hit that level again in the opportunities he had thereafter.

That doesn't mean to say he doesn't have the ability to make it at this level with us and it was far more valuable for him to go and get a run of games on loan to sharpen up rather than lose his sharpness on the bench if he was unable to break into the team.

With a changing landscape he may now find an opportunity present itself and if he can continue any good form he's had at Torquay then that is beneficial to both us and the player.

If memory serves me correct (and I think it has been mentioned in the Jan Window thread), Vernam didn't really do much until a loan spell at Chorley gave him some momentum and he came back a much livelier and valuable player to us, hopefully that will be the case with Wearne and if given his chance he can throw in some performances like the Crewe one with a bit more consistency added.

This is an oversimplification of course, but our results against League Two opposition this season when Wearne featured:

W4 - D3 - L1

Not hugely scientific, but it at the very least hints that both Wearne, and Town, can’t have been that bad whenever he was in the side in some capacity.

Hopefully will be a case like Vernam where a player is sent out to get some games and comes back with more confidence after a successful loan spell. A lot is made of what Vernam did these days but I don't recall too many complaints when he was sent on loan to Chorley or him playing particularly well beforehand.

Now he's back I hope like Hunt he gets some game time soon. We know Hunt is technically good enough and it would be good to have them both prove they are.
