It’s a well known anecdotal fact that there has been a consistent decline in the performances and results in Hurst’s teams since returning to the club, in the dark winter months. The stats however are even more stark.

This is the difference between his record from the end of British summer time, through to the end of January.

Results between end of BST and end of Jan

P - 24
W - 4
D - 4
L - 16
W% - 16.7%

Results outside that period

P - 71
W - 34
D - 19
L - 18
W% - 47.9%

In effect, we go from promotion winning form to relegation form as soon as it gets cold and dark, then back again as we approach spring.

The equivalent of two full seasons into Hurst mkII, is that pure coincidence or is there something more significant to it? Hurst getting worked out and having to reinvent? Players not conditioned for cold and heavy conditions? Something else?

We’ve won very few games that finished in darkness since Hurst came back; either midweek or on a Saturday (Notts County two notable exceptions). Only our Tranmere win this season meets that criteria. That’s a curious pattern.

What’s going on?

Really interesting stats. Wonder if the staff are aware of it?
I’d like to see how it compares to his tenure at his other clubs and also, if that’s a fairly general trend/pattern with other clubs too.

You would have thought that with the incremental improvement being made at the club vitamin D supplements would have been introduced by now .
On the heavy pitches point the number of balls that bounced over Waterfall last night I suggest more watering may be needed.

It all started a couple of years ago when they lobbed the top off the old floodlight towers and replaced the lights, we've never played well at home when they've been used since and it's something to do with them incorporating 5G transmitters into the new structure I'm telling ya.

We were joking about this last night on the way home but obviously unaware of just how bad the stats are.

After a summer break Hurst looks and sounds like a different man - all tanned and clean-shaven and smiling.

Come the dark nights him and his team seem to get the winter blues, look cheesed off and go into a slump.

The good news is that we have now passed the shortest day so we can all expect an uptick in form very soon.

It is bizarre though.

Hurst generally builds squads concentrating on footballing ability rather than physicality. Heavier pitches and worse weather conditions favour physicality over footballing ability to a degree.

When have we ever had a truly pacy side under Hurst and when have we ever had a rugged physical side under Hurst? We definitely need more pace in the team and if the current squad won't or can't be more aggressive, we need a bit more physicality too, because we've reached the footballing ability ceiling as it stands. We're no longer unknown new boys in the division and our limitations are getting found out far too often..

We all know they shrink in the cold............no idea about the team though.

Summer 2019 is when those floodlights were changed. What followed that? Town start playing shite whenever they are turned on and suddenly everyone starts getting ill with the media telling everyone that the source was some "wet market" in "China". 5G transmitters I'm telling ya. Also, before the floodlights were changed who would often be up there "changing the bulbs"? Yes, a certain non-chairman. How much more evidence do you need?

Don't shoot the messenger.
