You have to ask what is the point of the Lincs Cup if Grimsby vs Scunthorpe is played behind closed doors on a freezing day in December.

Exactly what it was, it gives the kids a run out.

This supposed to be a senior competition. Hurst tries to arrange friendlies so some fringe players can get some match practice but rarely happens for various reasons. Competitive game available for likes of Orsi, Pepple, Hunt etc.  (Even if ready, Scans for 20 mins) all of whom could have had 60 mins, but used youths only, don't quite get it.

But if Hurst has already spoken to *checks notes for who it is this week* Michael Nelson and it's clear Scunny will be fielding a youth side, there's very little benefit from the likes of Orsi, Hunt, Pepple getting game time against a youth side.

Sad that the Lincs Cup, which did use to hold some sort of kudos at one point, is so downgraded now that it's a) a youth fixture and b) it ends up getting played behind closed doors.  Wonder if there was an option for the venue to be switched at all, but then I suppose the ground staff at BP would want the pitch to be protected as much as possible.

Impossible to make a fair assessment from those highlights but great to see Woods' charges clocking up another win. The Town No 10, I think it's Harry Milner, looked very impressive again.  Could definitely be one to keep an eye on for the future.

Shocking challenge near the end by the Scunny sub, surprised it only got a yellow.

We're about to play 3 games in a week on heavy pitches so I understand why Hurst may have been weary of playing his fringe players in this fixture.

Ah... how lucky am I? Once saw the great Futchenstein score from the half-way line in this cup!

'I walked in the dressing room. The window was open and I thought that a sea fret had got in. Then I saw smoke billowing from a pipe in the corner of the room...it was my centre-forward. He looked seven stone wet through. He went on to score thirty-odd goals that season.' Lawrie McMenemy on encountering the legend that was Matt Tees.

Weren’t Lincs Senior Cup games sometimes part of preseason a few years ago?, I think this gave them a bit more kudos as always a desire to see new squad additions etc.

3 games in a week…why on earth would he play any first time players?

The LIncs cup used to be played pre season but I guess, like everything else, the clubs weren’t keen. I remember going to Glanford Park pre season a couple of times or playing Lincoln…

Play the yoof in every game…
