Will it? He’s on a one year contract and we’ve allowed him to become cup-tied. I doubt we’ll see him in a Town shirt again.

Have to say I agree, doesn't say much for his future prospects here.

I thought he did ok in that second half and Torquay deserved that draw.

Stephen Wearne has had a good week - best of luck to him.
Sod’s law Torquay will win at Derby and when we draw them in the next round - he will be cup tied. That’s football. 😎

How is it a surprise that we let him play? Because the odds of us playing more than one game were? According to form and the bookies, not great. And how many are we likely to play in total? 2 probably, 3 maybe. 4 would be incredible. I think we'll be alright. Play like he apparently did midweek and in the second half today for the rest of his loan and he'll come back to us a different player

When he joined Torquay we could have told them he couldn’t play in the FA Cup. As Torquay were playing a day after us we could have said he could only play if we got knocked out.

The fact is he’s gone to Torquay and we said he could play whatever the circumstances.

I think that says everything about his place in the pecking order at Town. He’s surplus to requirements here.

Many loan players are banned by their parent club from cup games, so they won't be cup-tied. We didn't put a ban on Wearne. This coupled with the fact that he chose to go to Torquay, where he had been on loan before, instead of going to a more northern club looks as if there is a permanent move there in January.

He's only gone there for a month to get some game time and confidence. Might aswell have him play in that game against a better opponent and see what he's capable of than hope that we beat the team top of L1 and plan for a cup run that is highly unlikely to last more than 2 more games.

He's gone there for a month, during which Torquay could play 3 FA Cup games including replays. The point of him going there is to get games so it seems a bit nonsensical to cup tie him.

Don't you have to register players at a certain point going into the weekend fixtures, regardless of when you actually play over the weekend?

I don't think we've seen the end of Wearne.  Listening to Hurst at the weekend it sounded like he still views him as having a future but the lad needed a bit of a pick-me-up/jolt to get going again and a loan move might do that.
