Excellent news not always been the biggest fan of these two but been nothing short of brilliant for us since last season . Hurst has really grown on me and its clear he has improved his own all round game .Nearly 6k season tickets suggest quite a few others feel the same.UTM

The thing about Hurst this time round is that he has no shackles attached to what he can do ( within budget ). So what we are seeing now is his full potential, along with that of Doig.

Great news indeed. Slightly light on the details in terms of contract length etc. Hopefully that can be clarified during the podcast tonight.

They were obviously reading The Fishy yesterday. Fantastic news though, as good as any signing we've made over the last couple of windows.

Would be nice to know the length of contract. Get a feel of owners and managers longer term thoughts….

It's times like this when I would like to know who these kind of posts offend. Then again, I think we know the answer. Let it go John.

Fantastic news. I've been getting slightly nervous that others may soon be noticing how much we are getting out of a squad built with a reasonable, but certainly not top-level, budget. The likes of Hudders, Lincoln even Wrexham might be looking for new managers soon.

New contracts.  Yes, but have Hurst and Doig ever won the Champions League - even recently?

Aren't they on a rolling contract?

If so, I imagine it will be the same deal, just with more remuneration.

You would assume there would be some kind of upside for the club, beyond the less direct benefit of pleasing key employees with improved terms.

I imagine the rolling contract remains, but I would hope that either the rolling duration has increased (it was 18 months originally I think) and / or there has been the addition of a fixed buyout “deterrent”, similar to the £20m Chelsea have had to pay Brighton for Potter (though obviously not quite that much).

Hopefully this will be touched on tonight.

No. When did paying the management ever get you three points on a Saturday?

Really good bit of business for us again. Haven’t always been a huge fan but so glad to have been proven wrong and we seem in very good hands in every single area of the club.

I never doubted his ability to manage, his record of getting teams into playoffs speaks for itself. But I can’t say I liked him during his first stint here, and the ear cupping left a bad taste in the mouth.

But I must say that I like him as a person now. He comes across as a pretty honest and genuine bloke, and plays a pretty straight bat in his interviews.

I think we are very lucky to have him. I also firmly believe he will take us into League One at some point, possibly even this season.

Nothing about the length of their deal but I don't see that as a huge issue, it's just great to see success being rewarded.

Assuming it's a 12 month rolling deal on better terms, that doesn't necessarily mean someone has to offer us 12 months wages to take him. Graham Potter has cost Chelsea £20m and I doubt his remaining Brighton contract would have cost Brighton that much.

It's well timed with Potter, one of the nations most promising coaches/managers going to Chelsea. Certainly not putting Hursts' name into the running for the Brighton job but if they go down the same route with someone like Cooper from Forest then you could see a bit of movement that ultimately leads to the Rotherham or Wednesday job coming up. A feeling of having a secure job and being wanted might make those dream jobs for him a little bit less desirable for now.

Damn good news and I'm really pleased to have Hurst here.absolutely delighted with him at the moment.

I agree that Wednesday and Rotherham are the realistic job offers that I can't see us having any chance of fighting off. I think Wednesday would be more realistic personally as I think hursts utter failure at Ipswich (regardless of the fairness of it) would put championship suitors off a lot. On the other hand in his 2 seasons at league 1 level he achieved relative success both seasons with a small club.

What was interesting listening to the podcast on Rotherham and Oxfords season last year it was mentioned that Rotherham chairman is a local lad done good type. The surprising thing was it saying this is becoming less common further and further down the pyramid, saying that 'almost half' of league 1 owners were now foreign investors.

Presumably hoping to get a promotion to the championship and be able to sell for more to someone hoping to have a cracking at reaching the prem?
