Argument for Cropper over Clifton? Efete further forward gives cover but also the long throw option might give us more threat in a game where you'd expect set pieces might be our best chance? Secondly, whilst a big fan of Brighton Rock I think I'd prefer Green's energy in the middle with Graham having been dead for 30 years.

Imagine playing right wing against that team… getting smashed into the lower by Campbell, Pouton and Chapman everytime you stepped in our half 🤣

Campbell was lightweight i thought. Didn't smash anything. Perhaps you meant Gallimore?

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Surridge scored twice when we got battered by Oldham at BP 4 years ago.
(And an obligatory comment pretending that's the Cafu)

Understand the need to be compact but I think starting 4 full backs is excessive. Agree with Glennon in left wing but think kiernan or Wearne on the right so we have some sort of attacking outlet.

Hursty said as much in his interview. You still have to be aggressive, show some intensity and when you get the ball try and take risks and keep it a bit, otherwise you’ll just drop so deep and get so tired you become easy pickings. I personally think he’ll pick Harry tonight, maybe Keirnan on the other wing and leave Wearne and Amos on the bench. Almost think against a team that hasn’t played together before playing Cropper to test their potential set of new internationals out.

Yes - first time I saw us play with two left backs. Can't recall whether Groves went into the back four. I just remember thinking when we lined up how on earth did that team have a hope of scoring.

I wonder if he will go for Amos and Glennon down the left with Efete and Clifton down the right. Possibly Cropper instead of Efete but I'd expect Cropper to get some minutes tonight.

If so none of those started on Saturday and six were on the bench . Possible clearly. I would have thought they would give Gibbs White a start or run out at some stage to help him integrate.Personally I would rather play their first eleven but just doesn’t happen any longer

Tbf they paid £20m for Dennis, not like they're (possibly) playing an 18 year old that's about to go on loan to Alfreton.

Theres an awful lot of money spent on that team alone, so no-one be under the illusion we are playing a bunch of 'stiffs' all of those players will have realistic ambitions of playing PL games this season and i remember Surridge tearing us a new one when he was on loan at Oldham a few seasons back, so we had better be on our game tonight, particularly at the back, which to be fair to them, has been the case in the games so far.

Agreed. Four fullbacks in a 4-5-1 system feels a bit Jolley away at Chelsea. By all means lets be compact and respect the opposition, within that we're probably not going to go for 2 out-and-out wingers. But lets not stand in awe and just hope we might get a couple of touches in their half.

Let’s not forget higher league clubs very frequently get turned over in the early stages of this competition . Only eight of the twenty four championship clubs left in after round 1

JMD is starting tonight.
If that is the case, perfect opportunity for him to put in a defensive shift when not in possession.

I’d start Cropper or at the very least, bring him on with plenty of time left. Set pieces and enforced errors are perhaps our most likely way of scoring.

I’d also play Cropper tonight. We haven’t been exactly bagging goals from open play and no matter what team, what division or what players you have his throws are a menace for any team. Definitely our best chance of scoring is from set pieces. How many corners we gonna get throughout the game? You’d imagine not many but we can get a throw in near enough anywhere in our half and he can launch it in and cause problems. Just hope if he plays he can handle himself defensively against much stronger opposition than he was use to last season.

Doesn’t surprise me Dennis is playing. Would also expect MGW to either start or be on the bench.

I'll be happy tonight with whatever team is selected, and I know they will give it their all.
What I won't be doing is going to the game with my expectations too high. I expect to lose the game, and will be delighted and proud if we manage a cup upset against the odds.
Love being the underdogs and proud as punch of my club.

Going with no expectations. If we get outclassed, then so be it.
They will have some good players on the pitch, but they will mostly be new and players who haven't played much, if at all, over the start of the season. Hopefully, we can cause them some problems, but we will need to be more at it than we were on Saturday, whoever they put on the pitch.

I have no expectations around tonight just hope it’s a decent game. When we got battered at Chelsea a few years ago I didn’t like it but their football was good to see so I kind of enjoyed it.
If the lads give 100% which they always do I’m happy. Agree on Cropper but can’t see him being selected over Efete. Would like to see Amos start and Glennon pushed up too.

Noticed yesterday that only one of the starting 11 played against spurs that started against town, so it beggars the question, why do they need a b teams team in the pizza cup? 🤷🏼♂️

They were still members of the first team squad that played against us. The Pizza Cup is even lower down the totem pole for the Under 23's squads
