That's a bit rich. All the effort he puts into his Guardian pieces. Obviously they aren't reading what he is saying.

What he's saying is irrelevant to the statistics. Teams that go up rarely finish in the top 10, and those that do were usually way ahead of the rest in the league. Bare in mind that we're the lowest placed team ever to get promoted from NL and 6 of the last 10 promoted teams have finished 17th or lower. It means nothing, but statistically we're more likely to struggle than do well.

Sutton 1st then 8th
Hartlepool 4th then 17th

Barrow 1st then 21st
Harrogate 2nd then 17th

Leyton Orient 1st then 17th
Salford 3rd then 11th

Macclesfield 1st then 22nd
Tranmere 2nd then 6th

Lincoln 1st then 7th
Forest Green 3rd then 21st

I don't think we'll struggle, but we haven't signed anybody that's got the wow factor for a neutral to take note. My guess would be mid table with possibly a play off push if we get a good start.

Gotta love a bit of unbound optimism and positivity, it can drag people up  PMA and all that. As it stands though, realistically, I would say we have a lower-midtable squad. Should be alright defensively but on paper we are severely lacking in firepower. If we're to do better than a 15th-17th place finish (which would be fine btw) there's going to need to be a certain amount of synergy going on and goals will have to come from all areas

When Hurst left in October 2016 we were in or around the play-offs. Appreciate that was early doors but I think the squad we have now is much better than that one.

We demonstrated an abundance of that in the play-offs. Top half finish for me.

Last season the pundits didn't give us any hope for the playoffs. Then when we reached them they didn't give us any chance in each of the playoff games.  We are now back in the league

It's second hand info but because I don't want to subscribe.  He does keep me updated on any Gy news in there.

True, but that was at the peak of Bogle's form. He scored nearly 20 goals in half a season. Nobody will do that this season, and he wouldn't have carried on that way.

Can't see anybody scoring 20+ over the season for us, that looks the biggest weakness.

No-one scored 20+ last season but we muddled through.

I do think we need a decent striker through the door still. Don't think Taylors body will hold up all season and Orsi is still an unknown quantity to me.
