Prediction Thread

As some of you may know Meza has decided not to do the prediction thread year. I enjoy the competition and have decided to take on the running of it.

Meza has kindly sent me his spreadsheet so that I may use it. I am not a techy type so it may take me a while to master it, but it is my intention to post the results as Meza did, so for the first few times, you may have to be patient with my efforts.

Everything else will be the same as Meza did, so to refresh your memories and for those new to it :-

You have to predict Towns result, scorers, gate and for away games the number of Town fans and for home games the number of away fans attending. This is for LEAGUE games only and will include the play offs if we are in them.

The predictions will close 2 hours before kick off, so 1.00pm for a 3 .00pm kick off and 5.45 pm for a 7.45pm kick off. If starting times change for any reason the cut off time will still be 2 hours before kick off. Any submissions after these times ( even 1 minute) will be disregarded.

Points are awarded as follows:-

1 point for correct score.
1 point each for predicting the correct Town goalscorer/s in no particular order
1 point for nearest overall attendance prediction (3 points if exact)
1 point for nearest away attendance prediction (3 points if exact)

Mrs DB has agreed to give the winners the following :-

1st £50
2nd £30
3rd £20

If there are joint winners the prize will be divided equally between the winners.

At the moment you only get one point for predicting the score. But you get one point for each scorer you name with no penalty for getting anything wrong.

So the easiest way to clock up loads of points is to go for three or four scorers each game. So it’s not really about being rewarded for accurate predictions.

If you got a point for a correct scorer but were deducted a point for naming a player that did not score it would stop this practice. That might mean a bit more work, but would I think make the scoring more of a reward for accuracy.

The other thing to consider is upping the points for the correct full time score from one point to three. That would be easier to administer.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Before anyone asks, no I can’t take it on myself and I fully understand if DB keeps it as is.

How about 3pts for exact score, 1pt for correct result and only name two players max to score, even if you predict 3-0. ??????????????????

I think what he was saying is you could predict a score of 22 - 21 and name all the players. You could technically get a point for the scorer and a win... absolutely no fun in my eyes though could earn you £50

Yeah but come on, no one does……

the only change i wanted to do last season was increase pts for correct score from 1 to 2 as i felt its harder to predict a score then naming scorers and there was a few exaggerated scorers, but like PP said maybe needed capping.

If there are any other changes anybody would like to suggest please do so by Monday 8.00 PM. I'm not saying I will make changes but the time to consider them is before we start. I will post on Tuesday any changes I will make if any.

Definitely needs to be more than one point for a correct score. It's harder to predict than a correct scorer and I was going to post something similar before others raised the issue.

Think 1 point for predicting a win, draw or loss, but 2 or 3 points for the correct score.

One for correct scorer with maximum of say 4 scorers

I have thought about the other comment about multiple scorers for each game and I think the 3 points for a win will deter this. However, there always seems to be 1 or 2 who will try it on. To be FAIR to all that participate if I am of the opinion that this is taking place I will send them a PM ( Yellow Card ) asking them to stop. If they don't I will deduct them 10 points ( Red Card ).

To summarise the points scores :-

Well done DB and well done to those who mentioned 3 points for the correct score, which would definitely seem to be the hardest prediction, compared with the scorers.

Probably not me.

Managed to finish mid table after starting half way through the season last time round. I’ll be here from the start this year putting up a title challenge.

me i reckon, the preidcted quite a few correct scores but missed on some scorers but got 1 pt lol

I’m not certain of the rules but I think you’d lose in the last minute of extra time.
