Anyone know why he seems to tire at around the 70 minute mark? He is still in his early 20s. I get Taylor, due to his age.

Keeps cramping up I think Hurst said.
It could be a muscular issue that's causing it. But poor hydration is a major factor in cramp, I think McAtee's post-final interview more than suggested that Hurst has pulled him up on his boozing before which leads me to think that it's the wrong type of hydrating that's causing the issue...
I think McAtee is a bloody fine player, on his day better than anyone at the level we've just left. If he wants it then there's a big, big opportunity for him to go into the next level and take it well within his stride. He's got physical and technical attributes to go as far as he wants. Often players in the fourth and fifth, maybe even the third, have a flaw in their game. Be it technically, physically or even their aptitude. McAtee has shown that he has it all and he can do it all. He's at that age now where he needs to make a decision regards how badly he wants to go to his highest level. The more he looks after himself off the pitch, the higher he'll go and the easier that climb will be.

There is a reason that the top level players can keep playing well into their 30's at the highest level and it's not all genetics. They are very strict with their diet regime and cut out a lot of crap, alcohol has killed plenty of careers when players consume too much of it and have to end their career on a low note. Lots of great players finished in obscure leagues or way down the UK football leagues because their bodies couldn't do the things they could do when they were young.
If he can control his bad habits and take care of his body no limit to how far he could go.

With his footballing family behind him I would expect him to push on.

Agree, he needs to seriously listen to his brother at Man City as to how to look after yourself off the field, and hopefully get even better and have a long career.(million pound transfer fee in January if he keeps pushing on)

George Mclean knocked back pints in the Imp before the match and still managed to score in every other match. He was the first off the pitch at half time and full time ( dying for a pee by all accounts )

Because he was coming back from injury and wasn’t properly match fit. He lasted longer at Wrexham and longer again in the Final. Indicates his match fitness was coming back. Also, was he told to run himself into the ground for 70 minutes by Hurst? i.e. no point conserving energy for possible 120 minutes.

I know the crosses mean intercourse all but who red crossed this. It was clear he has battles with fitness towards the end but equally, whilst it’s clear our mate Mcatee likes an ale, I’ve no doubt that his quick recovery time suggests he’s much fitter than we think…he just lacked match fitness I think. Surely a Mcatee running himself in to the ground, as you rightly pointed out is much better than him dipping his toe and being tentative for 90 minutes? It’s not like him going off at 70/75 minutes did us any harm… Agree with ya mate, definitely think it was a fitness thing…

I only asked the original question out of curiosity. I don't think he was out very long so can't see how his match fitness deteriorated. It certainly didn't do us any harm which is reassuring as those coming on definitely contributed. Excellent player as he is, we found ways to win games without him.
