Let's hope he isn't out for long, especially if we reach the play-offs.

3 more wins will see us guarantee play off spot, extend the season and I reckon give McAtee a slight chance of playing in them, so long as there’s no complications.

When I broke my shoulder no amount of pain relief could relieve the pain. Like Croft said on the radio though, if it's been put in place on the pitch it shouldn't be too bad. Croft said he had to go to hospital when he dislocated his and was out for 5 weeks.
Hopefully it's just a week or 2.

I can’t see it being less than 4 weeks personally if it is dislocated. It’s not the worst thing in the world if he’s back for the playoffs, bit of a rest for him etc but the worry is it kills our momentum

Is that correct? Another 9 points would take us to 78. If Dagenham won all their remaining games, unlikely as that may be, they’d be on 80. I make it for wins to guarantee it, but happy to be corrected.

Years ago I was playing cricket at the BP ground in Hull, was fielding on the boundary, went for a specular catch driving full stretch with one arm, got my hand to the ball, fell to the ground, which was as hard as concrete and pop my shoulder out. I was in agony, was taken to Hull Infirmary A&E by ambulance, gas and air helped a little with the pain. Had to wait in A&E for hours, when the doc came to look at my shoulder, it pop back into place on its own. I was playing again in the midweek league after it happened, by the way stopped the six, think they ran 10.

I used to chase eggs and based upon seeing it happen to others on numerous occasions if McAtee had dislocated his shoulder I find it hard to believe he wasn't taken to hospital or at least the ambulance for it to be put back in.

Based on what PH said post match it might have been a pop out and back in - that’s happened to me before (football) - can’t remember exactly how long I was out for but it wasn’t months and I didn’t have expert physio. We’ll know later today after the scan. Fingers crossed…

I injured my shoulder in my late teens - no great impact but an awkward twist and it went out a little and then back in straight away. Gave me gyp for months (I couldn't throw a ball, for example). Of course, I didn't bother to see a doctor about it or have any physio so possibly just myself to blame!

Will Elliott interrogate Paul Hurst for the injury status on McAtee for the pre match interview as his usual question 1 ??
Is there a definitive result from any medical scans and then potential recovery time ?

Get him wearing a shoulder brace he’ll be fine. Mine are copulated from landing on rock hard pitches for years and it works for me. He doesn’t even need his shoulders does he?

Hursty going all out with his injury smokescreens this season. Sacrifice McAtee away at Kings Lynn with a fake injury knowing full well the win was never in doubt. Torquay won't know what's hit them.

Certainly think he'll play well before the end of the season. I'd be surprised if he started on Saturday, just because if we're being cautious and ensuring we don't damage it further before we know for sure the true extent of the damage, that means waiting for the results of the MRI scan and seeing what the specialist says. I bet he plays at Barnet though. Hursty seemed relatively confident in his interview I thought.
It is massively important we have him fit for the play offs. We will struggle to win the play offs anyway but it'll impossible without him.

As poor as his finishing was at Kings Lynn, I'd still go with Mani on Saturday.
Finishing aside he actually did ok. Quite a few times he rolled his defender well to set something up. With regards his missed chances, he was in the right place to start with and/or made a good run to get on the end of the chance.
He looks more capable of making something happening himself than Taylor, who I think needs a McAtee (or someone similar that buzzes around him) to be effective. Mani can turn a man and is a bit more mobile to make runs into space.
For his confidence as well I think it'll be a big shot in the arm if Hurst says 'ok, your finishing wasn't up to scratch on Monday but I've got faith in you. Have another go'.
Absolutely sod all chance of that happening though. Taylor will be back in the side tomorrow with my money on either Fox or Scannell playing off him.

I like Taylor a lot, but we need to get the players up alongside him to make him most effective. If he's isolated, then there isn't really much he's going to be able to do on his own.
I much prefer Mani as an option off the bench as his height and extra mobility give tiring defenders a lot more to think about than Taylor's clever touches would. If the general quality of our passing through midfield was better, I think Taylor would be even more effective but we're still a bit clunky in possession too often.

Not to forget they gave Notts County a 5-1 tonking only a couple of weeks ago. Of all our remaining fixtures, this looks by far the most obvious banana skin and I’d be quite relieved to get through this with another scruffy 1-0 win if necessary.

Big test tomorrow, Torquay aren’t out of it..win here and the game in hand and they’re only 3 points or so behind. They’ve been in a rich vein of form although Mondays result would have been a disappointment. Little and Lemonheigh-Evans weigh in with goals..as has been said above a point tomorrow and that’s them out of it really, they need three..so they’ll have a go on the break.
It may be a test for our home support in not getting on the backs of our players and being patient. Difficult game particularly with our talisman out..but a chance for others to do the job.
It could be any outcome tomorrow in all honesty..imperative we get something rather than nothing if we can’t win - it’s the type of game we need a goal off Mani D’s backside or something.

I would definitely rest him tomorrow and we should easily have enough fire power to dispose of Barnet, so give him a decent recovery period. The vital thing is to have him fit for the play off games.

As I mentioned on another thread, Torquay have beaten Stockport, Wrexham and Notts County this season.
A feat Town have equalled, will be a tough game but we should be confident we can beat them at BP.

Absolutely battered Notts too. 3rd in the form table behind Wrexham and Stockport. I'll take any kind of scrappy 1-0 win for us here if it means 3 points.

I think this will be a really tough game.
We've had a great Easter and we're on a fantastic run ourselves, and we're at home, so no need to fear them. But like another poster said, they need to come here and have a go. They want all three points.
They can't afford to go behind early, otherwise their chances may go before they even get started.
That's why I think they'll start cautiously. They also won't know how we'll set up without McAtee. Will we change formation? Too risky for them to have a go at us from the off.
But they'll need to have a go at some point and we need to be ready with pace on the break. We don't want to be settling for a point either (unless we go 2-0 down or something - then we'd take it!) because Dagenham are still in the hunt and you never know if Boreham Wood might suddenly get their shít together from nowhere.
Also it'd be ace to finish 5th. Should be good game.

Can’t see Borehamwood doing anything now, they’ve still got Bromley, Stockport, Wrexham, Solihull and ourselves to play.
Think it’s 1 from us, Dagenham and Torquay. The upshot is that Torquay play at Dagenham a week on Monday when we’ve got a free week, and they also have Chesterfield, Stockport and Southend to play after that. Dagenham have an easier run over the next fortnight, before finishing with Solihull and Wrexham who will surely have playoff spots confirmed and be resting players.
Wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s a “must win” tomorrow, but would be looking towards certainly not losing as a minimum. What seemed like a run-of-the-mill, unimpressive 2-1 at home to D&R at the end of March is now looking like a massive result in the overall context of the season. Funny how stuff like that plays out.

Was a Torquay fan on the DN35 Pod this week saying they'll definitely come here for the win. Which in fairness to Gary Johnson, as much of a helmet as he is, he tends to send his sides out with that approach if nothing else.
Weird situation where they really need to win and we don't, so wouldn't surprise me if we try to do them on the break. Would love to see us start like a house on fire, get an early goal and make them go gung-ho.

Agree with all that's been said so far
And think tomorrow will be a tough game that's for sure
Torquay need a win to keep any PO hopes alive
Town need a win to keep themselves in the pack - I would say tomorrow is a must not lose
All the teams above and around us you would expect them to be picking up points tomorrow - but as we know you just never know!
Solihull, Chesterfield, Notts and Dag n Red all at home and all playing teams that make up the bottom 4

It could be a good game tomorrow but on form Town are better. Ranked 5th in the league for home form and Torquay are ranked 11th away from home.
Ironically best away form are Stockport who lost away to Town and best home form are Halifax who Town beat them at Halifax

Probably with a pain killing injection if he's needed. Two games coming up where we should have enough to get a result without him, so give him as long as possible to recover before the play offs, should we get there, which seems more and more likely now.

Doesn’t sound good if I’m honest and a bit concerning re. his long term recovery time if he has to have an op. Opposition players will target him whenever he plays.

I seem to remember Luke Hendrie having some sort of leg injury a few seasons back that needed surgery, but it was a sort of as and when he wanted the surgery if the pain wasn’t too bad, so it could be a similar case to that. I’m hoping that anyway

Call me old fashioned, but if a player’s injury is severe enough as to require an operation, is it worth the risk to play him?

I heard the mention of the op in Hurst's interview and my heart sank. With the best will in the world, he's not going to get the same player if he's got an issue serious enough that he requires surgery for it to be repaired.
I'm sure he'll try his hardest if he can, but it's always going to be there at the back of his mind, especially if it's giving him discomfort if he does play.
I think we'll have to assume he's only likely to play a bit part in the remainder of the season.

Dunno why a shoulder injury should have that much effect. Hardly an ACL rupture. Could just be a minor tendon, many shoulder repairs are done by laparoscopy these days. Just because they’ve mentioned surgery - really doesn’t have to be a biggie.

It's not so much the surgery as the recovery. Even for something like a simple rotator cuff tear you're looking at being in a sling for 4-6 weeks and not being able to lift the arm until the doctors clear you then physio to recover.

Still don’t think that’ll affect his game. His celebrations might have to be muted.

If your shoulder is knackered it affects pretty much every aspect of your game. Notably running, jumping and physicality. I’d be interested to see stats on how many times a match McAtee goes shoulder to shoulder with an opposition defender. Or how many times he jumps, or is climbed on.

This. Even a dislocation doesn’t require an op. Likely to be a minor procedure. Probably all about JM’s comfort level and range of movement.

Injure your shoulder and you will discover how it impacts just about every single movement you make.

All the above scenarios are based on his shoulder not being repairable or the operation going wrong. Not suggesting this is a day surgery thing and he’ll be bench pressing within a week. More that the surgery has come a long way in the last 25 years and chances are very good that he’ll be absolutely fine.

The op is perhaps a capsular shift - tightening the ligaments. 6 week recovery. Perhaps we’ll get more info to confirm what the Op is, but I think this is most likely. In the meantime after some rehab to get the movement and strength back hopefully he can play with some strapping.
