Apparently it's in a terrible state.

"Many Chesterfield fans and opposition managers have commented on the pitch’s low quality, with Notts County boss Ian Burchnall saying it was the ‘worst’ they have played on all season."

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

I mean, looking at that picture, it's not great but it's also nowhere near as bad as they sometimes get at this time of the season.

I suspect Burchnall was looking for excuses, whereas Hurst will be making a valid point.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I was there tonight for the England U19s match. The pitch is much worse than ours. What difference it makes to our (or their) chances I'm not really sure, but I'll look forward to finding out.

In addition to the 100 or so matches that have been played on it this season as mentioned in that article, it turns out they were also training on it 3/4 times a week under James Rowe.

I think our pitch looked much worse by this time last season.

Furloughing the groundsman was a cracking decision though…
