It struck me yesterday that we sort of take Harry Clifton for granted a bit.
Plays so many different positions, always full of energy, very rarely gets rested and does most of what he does really well without being the most gifted player in the squad. Consistent 7 or 8 out of 10 performer and, as it stands, my Player of the Season.

Agree entirely. A non league James Milner! Very steady performer although Waterfall gets my vote for player of the season.

I’d agree, I sometimes wonder if his versatility has retarded his development? Playing various roles and positions probably comes with the territory but I think there is a top centre mid at this level given stable selection and the right players alongside him.

Was always a critic of Clifton but it’s hard to fault him this season, much like waterfall. He’s been immense this year and chipped in with the odd goal which always helps…

Always had this image in my head of Clifton as the Gaffa tells him where he needs him.
"Harry CM" "yes Gaffa" "Harry RB" "Yes Gaffa" "Harry the tea ladys out sick" Already tying the apron "on it Gaffa"
Non-League Milner and we'll struggle to replace his engery if he ever leaves us

The one thing you could never fault him on is he'll give 100% in a match and keep running all over the pitch. This season has been one of his best by far, improved on many of his weaknesses and his versatility and effort shines. He's the type of player every squad needs, maybe not the best player in any position but can play in all of them while putting in a good shift.
I have felt he was regularly overrated in the past just because he's local and a bunch of people here know him/his family he's been portrayed as better than he was, though this season he deserves all the praise he's been given for the role he's played.

I really like Clifton. Gives his all, local lad and like others say slots in and never let's you down. May never give 10/10 performances but never gives less than a 7.

This may well be, by some considerable distance, the best thing you’ve ever posted.

Every manager needs someone like Harry Clifton in their squad. Sums the lad up that he was better than the 3 actual LBs we played at LB last season. The problem with players like Harry though is that they very rarely nail down a place of their own because they are always filling in. He's got energy to burn and gets on with the job wherever he plays. He's one of those players we will miss when he's no longer here.

I've always liked him and never got the criticism. Probably appreciated more by his manager and team mates than fans.
Some say he's over rated, but I think the opposite and think he's under rated.

I'd like to see Clifton a little more controlled in possession when he's playing centrally. He's full of energy and running all the time but it's a bit too frenetic when he's playing in the middle and he tends to lose possession more than he should because he's trying to rush passes too often. If he dials it back a little when he gets the ball in midfield and keep it a bit simpler, he'll become more effective. It probably doesn't help that he's never had a run in central midfield and the chopping and changing in position won't help him settle.

An unsung hero. You know what you are getting - and what you are not. A hardworking Mr versatile.
His all-action approach is similar to Mike Hickman from the 1970s. He was a fan’s favourite as well.
They have also named a bridge after Harry, The Clifton Suspension Bridge at Bristol.

I think he’s really valuable and progressing in his all round game. I remember last season saying that he wasn’t ‘producing’ enough in terms of goals, assists etc to match his energy. I think he’s addressed that. Wouldn’t want to be without him now. A rarity in being a true utility player.

He found himself playing left-back in a shît side last season. I can accept that he wasn't contributing as much as he'd have liked last season. At least I knew he was trying.

No, I see what Ginny means. Between over-rated and under-rated there’s a neutral level where people rate a player accurately. 😆

Not that it’s worth much with that team, but I actually thought he was one of our best players last season at left back. Such a versatile player who can be trusted to do a job just about anywhere
