Without being certain I think he is Commercial Manager rather than Head of. They might be looking at expanding this area of the business and this department. Dave will probably be allowed to apply if he wants.
On the other hand he could have left of course, which would be a shame, good bloke is Dave.

Just waiting for Fillipe and Pen to tell us that yet another long-standing member of staff is being cast aside. Dave Smith is Commercial Manager so it looks like this new role is to strengthen us in that department by recruiting someone adequately qualified and give Dave someone else to report to. It's a vital function in the business and if done correctly, will more than pay for itself.

I hope she has another job because sponsors and adverts have barely changed for years.

Of course being a “good bloke” is nice, but the important thing to ask with anyone (not just Dave Smith) is are they good enough at their job? This isn’t a criticism of Dave Smith because we don’t know whether he’s left, leaving, changing his role or staying in his current job and I always liked him as a player. It’s a general observation about any business being turned around and the culture changed. We aren’t where we are in the football pyramid because everyone working at the club in the past 10+ years is fantastic and offered real value to the business. We are where we are because the club and business has been a shambles.

To be fair to the new regime, they haven't come in and made changes for changes sake. They have been here over a year and identified how they would like the business to grow and are now acting on what they see as improvements. Nowhere does it say that nobody has been demoted or pushed aside by them. They are simply bringing in new faces and new ideas.

Totally agree. The whole administrative structure of the club has been too "parochial" for ages. Don't get me wrong, I agree with a policy of promotion from within but it comes with it's own problems. Employees have little experience of how things are done in other organisations. Work experiences can lead to blinkered vision and losing sight of the "bigger picture". By introducing "new blood" can lead to totally re-thinking organisation structures and thinking.

A shake up of the commercial dep't can only be a good thing
