I know it's not football but Shane Warne.
What a shame.
One of the greatest cricketers of all time.
RIP

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

he really was one of the best, if not the best ever.

A personality on and off the cricket pitch.

Bluddy hell! That’s a shock.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

Sorry didn't se that.
He was a bloke that did nothing by half's on and off the field.
He had a short life but what a life.

Without question the most gifted cricketer I've ever seen.

Also the type of character and personality that makes sport appealing to so many.

An absolute magician with the ball at his fingers.

A testament to him was that he was loved by everyone.

An all round good egg. You don't get many of those sportsmen at the top of their game that are.

RIP Warney.

SW tweeted about the death of Rod Marsh and then a few hours later he was dead as well.

RIP to both, magnificent adversaries both of them, a very sad day for cricket.

Just seen this. Properly shocked.
The greatest spin bowler of all time, no question.

I first saw him destroy our batting order at Trent Bridge in 93 and then 9 years later at the Gabba.

RIP Warney from a Pommie b*stard!

Just hours after Rod Marsh died too. Two cricket legends dying on the same day.

Legend is used often but in this case totally justified.. was so good to watch even tho it was often destroying England batting lineups. Always came across as a genuine good fella too.. just finished his autobiography.. RIP Shane

Absolutely gutted, what’s the term? “GOAT”?

If it’s greatest of all time then in terms of spin bowling I think that’s fitting, one of the best competitors to ever bowl a ball.

An incredible spin bowler - his figures speak for themselves - but his cricket intelligence was off the scale.

Loved listening to him when he was on commentary duty. He had so many ideas when it came to field placings, when to bowl certain bowlers, when to declare, when to attack, when to defend, etc.

I was very shocked when I heard this from a work colleague earlier on.

An incredible spin bowler, a likeable guy, I used to like his commentary and punditry, only saw him on TV a few weeks ago.

RIP Warney

Deeply shocked and saddened by the news - the word legend gets banded around too often nowadays but this guy was a true legend both on the pitch and during his stint on commentary, his knowledge of the game was immense.i watched him on numerous occasions and got so frustrated with the English batsmen who succumbed to his skill which at the time I didn't realise just how talented this guy was.
One thing this has taught me is to cherish and love  everything you have in your life and to take nothing or no-one for granted!
Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends - RIP Warnie sadly taken to soon but always in our memories ❤️

We were sat near the Sky Pad at Headingley last summer and Shane came and sat behind the advertising boards waiting for the lunch break. Unlike some of the Sky pundits, he had time for a chat and let us get photos. Lovely man, fantastic talented sportsman and taken far too soon. RIP Warney.

Oddly, the last celebrity death which shook me so much was another Aussie, Steve Irwin back in 2006.

Two bubbly, Aussie characters cut from similar cloth.

RIP.

Strange being English, but Shane was one of my sporting idols.

Having played cricket for the best part of 35 years and being a spin bowler myself, you can appreciate the skill he had.

He played the game with a smile, I guess he could when playing in one of the greatest teams at the time.

When he retired and started commentating he was very fair in his assessment and knowledge he would offer to the viewers, in a way even those with little cricket knowldege would understand.

A sad two legends of the sport I enjoy playing and watching have passed away.

RIP
