Good evening all. Yesterday I took my 7 year old son to his first town away game, we’re both season ticket holders an he couldn’t wait to see what the away support was all about.  Before I go into full praise mode the flares and the lad who sat next to us who continued to use the C word at every opportunity even when I asked him to watch his language didn’t ruin the positives.

There’s a real sense of family when you go to town away games, the fact you see people in the street wearing town hats shirts or scarves an you immediately say hello or make conversation with people you have never met before! The fact every person sat near us spoke to my little lad an celebrated like crazy with us both when we scored the second! The fact every town fan I spoke to was proud and full of praise that I brought my son with me at that age to experience what it’s like to be a Grimsby fan and not just support one of the big teams and not only that but actually speak to him and make him feel like he is part of the whole fan base an support which did mean a lot to him when people asked for his name and who his favourite player was.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is in supporting Grimsby its more than turning up and signing songs! It’s almost tribal it’s a family and it’s the sense of a belonging that I don’t think a lot of teams have with there fans. I’m proud to be a town fan and hope to get to as many away games as we Can and thanks to all those we met yesterday!

Sadly a very small minority of our fans have excrement for brains. Anyone who sets off a flare in the middle of a crowd should be banned for life.

A very small minority at every club…the most embarrassed I’ve been as a town fan in the last ten year or so is seeing people loft Fenty up above their heads like he’s some saviour, some breaking of advertising boards, a fat racist woman that the club deemed fit to be let back in, Halifax, Dagenham this year and a fans forum…

Don’t forget the fans dancing / standing  in front of the disabled fans at the Parslow Chester game. All town aren’t we ? No mate not in my book.

Burton when we were relegated (particularly the ‘fan’ assaulting the keeper) and the singing about Brian Laws wife at Scunny were by far the most embarrassing our ‘fans’ have ever been.

As you say they are usually the minority

The most embarrassed I have felt as a Town fan is sitting in the Upper Smiths and watching the club Chairman (or principal shareholder, or whatever he was calling himself at the time) see fit to leave his seat and march across to grab a young boy’s flag and snap it in two.

I think you’ll find it was deconstructed to the point where it was safe and couldn't be considered a danger 😉

It’s even more concerning when a few of the embarrassing things isn’t so called hooligans on some wannabe rampage but the former owner/chairman/de facto chairman doing what he did best….

Halifax away takes some beating for me…

Every club in the country have good and bad stories about their own fans because we are all part of wider society.

I would prefer it if those who break the law were punished and just let the rest of us enjoy a fabulous day out.

Yes but not in a confined space amongst your own fans.

And as a home supporter you know where the morons congregate in your home ground and can choose to go elsewhere. When you’re an away fan you don’t have that luxury. You’re stuck with the cretins.

There are no laws on showing respect and consideration for other though are there? That just comes down to people not being selfish and only interested in themselves.

Of course there aren't and in a perfect world we would always be kind and considerate to everyone.  It never will be a perfect world though and some drunken or loutish behaviour is baked in when it comes to football .

It is very irritating when you are directly affected and it has happened to me in the past but wishing it were different is just that - wishful thinking.

Those that really overstep the mark should be punished but until society changes I don't know what the answer is to anti social behaviour.

It does annoy me that a few have to act like prats who turn into idiots after a few drinks.. Most away games, even down here in the south west there's something.
But... The good massively outways the negatives. Our fans are amazing and the numbers they travel in is redicilous

Lets put things into perspective here, we had an away support of 2,500 fans which for a non league team is absolutely amazing and there are some teams in the championship that would be envious of the away support we have, but whatever the numbers of supporters we take to away games or we get at home games you will always get a few knobheads that spoil it for the rest of us but unfortunately you have to accept that’s the way it is and I don’t think it will ever change.

Dead Eye Dobbin stood motionless waiting, waiting, waiting for the ball to arrive. Back came the right foot, Down came the right foot, Bang ! Headlines around the world as the ball flew into the very top right hand corner of the goal.( Jim Dobbin scoring in the 89th minute for Town against Newcastle United away 24/10/1992 )

You do not have to accept it, it will not get any better until people stop accepting it. There have been many on he condemning the actions of the idiots at County but I bet that is all they do. We can't let the minority spoil it for the majority.  Transport for London (and BTP) have a saying "SEE IT, SAY IT, SORTED". Football need a similar campaign that allows fans to easily report bad behavior, racism etc. Thing will not change until everyone does something to stop it, do not turn a blind eye. Write/email the club (safety officer), the National League, the local authority, your MP, the media. Lets make it less possible for incidents like Saturday to happen in the future. This will not happen overnight, but it can be achieved but only if you want it to. Unless you help to improve thing the authorities (Clubs, Local Authorities & Police) will take the easy way out limiting away followings, insisting on early kick-offs, banning alcohol on trains and in the ground, and stopping fans visiting pubs. We have a fantastic fan base and especially our away following, I do not want this to be jeopardised by a small minority,

Try not to take this the wrong way, but after watching someone spark a fág up in the stand, then push his way into someone else’s seat, then hear him racially abuse one of our players, then subject you to a foul-mouthed tirade, did it not occur to you - at any point - to maybe say something to a steward or one of the police officers in the ground?

There’s no point writing to your MP or the press when you’ve ignored the actual method designed to deal with these situations. The stewards aren’t there for decoration.

So I am assuming you have written to the safety officer, the National league, the local authority, our MP and the media to make them aware of the behaviour you witnessed on Saturday? Or are you expecting everybody else to do it instead?

To put in context, we had some blokes acting like bells while drunk up.
The following day Leicester went there and smashed up all their boozers, could be worse...

So, if you were walking down the street and somebody punched you in the face & stole your wallet you'd be okay with it if somebody was stabbed to death walking down the same street the day after? I mean it could be worse?

Maybe the issue partly lies with the policing and stewarding then? Sounds like this person has broken the law or stadium rules on at least 4 separate counts, and if you’re now suggesting that the stewards stood there and did nothing about it, perhaps some of your ire should be reserved for them?

I think most have condemned helmet fans, and rightly so. I don’t want racist sharp objects at football, but I’m also aware that stewarding and policing of football is somewhat bizarre on occasions…
