You don’t, you sit back and watch them fail to gain promotion again and end up with a squad of players on silly money Becauee they’ve literally exploited the club…

Yep, let them get on with it. If it’s an extra season down here for us because of them, so be it. However, if they fail it will be a lesson for the Hollywood glamour boys.  Wrexham still dropping points, Stockport piling up the points. No guarantees in this game.

Good luck to them. Ultimately, if Town don’t go up this season (and realistically the odds aren’t great at this moment in time), then it’s in our best interest for the likes of Wrexham and Stockport to go up.

As funny as it is when club’s throw silly money at things and still fail, the last thing we want is that kind of money kicking around for an extra season.

This is very true. I’ve said to my EPL supporting friends/associates since 2010 that the first thing you notice is there is always a conference side with more money than you. You can deal with just one, but several means it’s curtains for you. I agree it would be best if they went up.

If Chesterfield fail then the worry would be that their main man (I’m not even gonna attempt the spelling…) gets sold, which would mean a windfall for both them and possibly even Boreham Wood. They were even speculating he’d be on the move to the premier on sky sports the other day, incredible.

Tough times ahead, but we’ll do it again one day (hopefully before Scunny).

It’s not all about competing financially.  The key is getting a squad of players to tick and perform and by creating a good team spirit.  One or two expensive players often don’t work.
Brian Clough did that in his early years and got the most out of what many considered average players.  The main thing is finding those players on the up before they become really expensive.

100% this, you wouldn’t expect Oldham and Scunthorpe to replace them in the wealth league when they come down.

If both of those “do a Macclesfield “, would we have a 21 team league next season?

If we weren't down at this level I would wish nothing but failure on them but we could do with them gone as it will undoubtedly work for them eventually. There will always be a team going for it at this level but they take it to the next extreme with their spending.

I think we can safely assume that whoever comes down won't be throwing loads of cash at it so them being gone would level the playing field somewhat.

As for the salary cap next season, I've said all along that won't be implemented.

Brian Clough got the best financial backing from basically the start signing many record signings for the UK at the time lol. He signed loads of big players and the one time he didn't have huge financial backing he failed completely at Brighton, he was a manager that needed money behind him like pretty much all great managers. He did some decent deals thanks to Peter Taylor's scouting and advice when they were at Forest but he still pushed the boat out with record big signings. Getting good team spirit is fine but if they don't have any talent they also won't achieve anything. In the early 80's they sold a lot of their big stars that had European success at high value and replaced them with young players that didn't win squat.

You need both a good manager and the backing to sign the best players to have success, we often didn't have either of those lol.

Oddly enough you’re not wrong but I’m not convinced you give “Old big head” the credit he deserves. When you think of the big money players associated with Clough you always think of Peter Shilton & Trevor Francis etc...some epic fails like Ian Wallace and quite a few other big names he brought in to Derby & Forest but don’t forget he was the manager if not the scout who gave Gary Birtles and Roy Keane a start, one of them graced the hallowed turf the other played loads of games at Old Trafford.

He also picked up a handy left back from Coventry in Stuart Pearce and local lads Tony Woodcock, Chris Woods and Viv Anderson whom all won numerous England caps.

Don’t forget he turned around or resurrected the careers of Frank Clarke, David Needham, Kenny Burns, Ian Bowyer, Larry Lloyd, John Roberson arguably Archie Genmil & Peter Withe all of whom featured in a title winning side and many of them went on to be led by one of the most underrated players of the era in John McGovern. There’s a few more who won major medals under Clough when they probably never expected to.

At Derby he also did similar and won a league and got close in the European Cup as it was then.

In these dominated TV revenue days and times where tier 7 & 8 players have agents who demand silly salaries in the name of Bosman everything is different it’s a lot harder and if you have the money you’ll eventually get the success.

The top half of this division is as strong, imho, as league 2. We wouldn’t complain if we could go out and spend over £1m in a transfer window, let alone a season, so let’s just let them get on with it and concentrate on what’s in front of us.

Welcome to Wrexham Tom, could you tell us how the move came about?
"Well I had a long chat with the gaffer and he explained his plans and the project. I immediately thought no way am I dropping to the conference, then he told me how much money they would pay. F0ck me I couldn't get the pen out of his hand fast enough, Wrexham really is lovely"

It makes a bit more sense to offer a 22 year old a long deal but is a 34 year old Ollie Palmer going to be giving them value for money in whatever league they are in by then?
