You've got a couple mistakes in there PP

Starting XI: Crocombe, Efete, Longe-King, Waterfall, Towler, Revan, Coke (c), Fox, Clifton, Bapaga, Taylor.

Subs - McKeown, Pearson, Braithwaite, Sears, Khouri, Grant, Essel, John-Lewis.

5311?

I don't mind Roy Keane making £60,000 a week. I was making the same when I was playing. The only difference was I was printing my own - Mickey Thomas

The area you are trying to protect at corners is the goal - Chris Kamara

Strong looking side which doesn't surprise me. Three centre backs and Sears looks like he will be busy in 2 places at the same time.

Looks like 2 attacking full backs which would explain the 3 at the back.

Possibly looking for a different way to play whilst McAtee is out which makes sense. Really gonna have to support Taylor in the box when the ball goes wide.

Where's Max again??

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Well don’t want to tempt fate but looks decent to me

At least with Efete and Revan we have 2 players athletic enough to be proper wingbacks, we haven’t been able to say that very often over the past couple of seasons

When asked in an interview about Max, PH said he needs to get his fitness levels higher, so I guess that's the reason. Probably not up to the levels of the rest given his injury problems.

Apart from that, I dunno.

By all accounts Doncaster is probably the next in line of importance to Scunny, in terms of local derbies. Attendance 3,301…….

I love how Grovsey like many of our former player summerisers refer to Town as “us” and uses “we” to describe our play.

Strangely I had realised that, In fact I've been asking where Sousa is all afternoon with no reply. If they aren't injured then why aren't they on the bench FFS?

Didn’t Hurst say a couple had slight injuries in training on Thursday and Friday so would miss today but should be right for next week?

0-1 FFS.

Quoted from Ipswin

Strangely I had realised that, In fact I've been asking where Sousa is all afternoon with no reply. If they aren't injured then why aren't they on the bench FFS?

When will we sign another striker and get Clifton sitting in middle of midfield   Still time to get a goal but realistically who have we got on the bench today who will make a difference.

Three defeats and no goal on the bounce, very worrying.

In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions.
Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them.

Thing is everyone in this team can score goals weve seen that, but were not coming out on the all out attack like we did against barnet, feels like weve forgot how to throw caution to the wind and are losing 1-0 every game because were trying to win 1-0 ourselves instead of trying to win 4-3

In the end, Hurst has gone back to his old self, lets set up to defend and see if we can nick one. But all it takes is to concede one and the other team shut up shop or the ref have a howler and its an uphill struggle. If we are any good we should be putting these part time/VNN teams away. Why would you set up with 5 defenders against a team in a lower league. Did their keeper have to make a good save today, dont remember but I'm reliant on the commentary.

In Hurst I trust but for the first time this season I’m disappointed in the manager and players. We should at least be able to go there and avoid defeat, sounds like their keeper wasn’t that busy which is becoming a common theme.

Our best first XI was flying
Then attacking threat blunted with loss of McAtee
Three games and no goals - fairly obvious what the issue is
But you don't just bring any striker in to fill a gap
Hurst is very selective who he wants and if no one out there for him we won't be trading
Frustrating but I agree with him

Disappointing though - we never seem to have a cup run,,,

Bollox!

Just got back from a walk and seen the result. Thought it was a tough draw when it was made, but recent form by both sides made me think it was an even tougher game than it would have been.

I don't know how we played because I didn't listen to the game, but they are only a league below us and in good form on their own patch. There will be bigger shocks this weekend.

Gutted, but that's footy. If you are not at it, teams from leagues below will take advantage.

Worrying run we're on and McAtee is a big miss. He makes us tick.

P1ss poor. Zero goal threat again.
Formation change didn't work, players looked lost going forward.
No matter how much you dominate a game if you fail to score or even register a decent attempt on target then you leave yourself open to a mistake, a decision a wonder strike.

Third game in a row.

Missed Hunt, Mcatee and Sousa.

Where were Sousa and Hunt today? I appreciate he thought he had to rest players (against crappy lower league opposition) but the three young lads were clearly only on the bench for experience and to make up the numbers.

There was no one to bring on who could change the game, we had so few shots on goal even LJL didn't miss any easy chances that's how bad we were!

This just demonstrates Hurst has not abandoned his obdurate streak, his failure to bring in a striker is now becoming culpable negligence . 6  league points and a potential cup run down the drain, this could prove costly at the end of the season.Come on Hurst the extra revenue from increased attendance means we can well afford a decent striker.Do not squander the feel good factor the fans have only limited patience.

There was no one to bring on who could change the game, we had so few shots on goal even LJL didn't miss any easy chances that's how bad we were!

Possibly the players that Hurst mentioned as being injured during the week and would miss this game?

It's a sad day when we go out of the cup to the team in a league below us. The mitigating summary is the ref gave them a penalty and he failed to give us one. Again the lack of a No 9 is apparent and don't we all know it.

We also know that Hurst said he had been out trying to get one and for whatever reason, they didn't want to come. It's alright shouting get a No 9 but you have to get the RIGHT person. 1878 have already said that money will be made available if needed, so it's needed but for the right person. The right person is someone who adds to the entire squad, Wrexham and Stockport have splashed the cash but are not in the top two.

Positive as I am I always knew we would have bad periods, it's called football and all clubs go through it. Six months ago mid-table was said, by some, to be the best we might get or even get into the top 7! We have had a dream start and reality now kicks in, I've enjoyed it and we should have embraced it.

Played 3 and had no goals and that is a problem. All managers want a goalscorer but as some have pointed out managers in the leagues above us are reluctant to release their 2/3 rate strikers because of a possible injury to their main strikers. The Jan window is still a long way off for them to release anyone. So the problem for Hurst is not money but the availability of identified strikers, be it on loan or a signing.

The Hurst out brigade are out in force along with the negative posters on here. We are all supporters of the club( Apart from Imps & Scunts on here) so stop being negative. Accept the results as part of the game and don't forget a bad run is better now than a bad run in spring. We just seem to have a run of away games so we ALL should be thankful to all the fans who travel to the away games.

Win the next 2 games and today will be forgotten. The future is still rosy and my glass is half full, we should all get behind the squad and give them our full support.

Possibly, we don't know but I suggest 'resting' is more likely. He is taking great care of Hunt (like Max Wright) but doesn't seem to know whether he prefers Sousa or Bapaga

No skin off my nose we wouldn't have won the cup anyway and compared to usual we have already had a cup run by beating Bromsgrove

I am more concerned how three defeats without troubling the opposition keeper is affecting our league hopes

Do you even know what culpable negligence means? Something tells me you don’t!

Correct DB but at the same time let’s not pretend something hasn’t gone worryingly wrong, let’s hope Hurst can fix it and quick.

Defeat to another part time club not good enough we need a the least a goal threat.

I think you'll find they are full time players, not part time.

Hursts pre match interview said there were a few injured in training on Thursday. Could easily be Hunt (who was on the bench at Bromsgrove), Sousa and Wright, couldn’t it?

Hurst just confirmed that in his interview, along with Crookes and one or two others walking wounded.

Well if Sousa, Hunt, Wright, Crookes and McAtee are all injured or 'walkig wounded' it just shows how weak the squad, (described by many as 'having depth') really is if we can't bout together a team to score against, never mind beat a lower league side

Haven’t read the rest of the thread but I think today falls at Hurst’s feet (I’m a Hurst fan). The system today clearly didn’t work and we didn’t change it until too late. Went with a Villa supporting mate and he was impressed with the support, but surprised at how bad we were.

Disappointing day all round.

Thing is everyone in this team can score goals weve seen that, but were not coming out on the all out attack like we did against barnet, feels like weve forgot how to throw caution to the wind and are losing 1-0 every game because were trying to win 1-0 ourselves instead of trying to win 4-3

We can't play any other way when we have 4 centre halves in the squad and a player who hardly goes in the opposing half -and several players being expected to play in the wrong position

The question now is how long will this winless and non scoring run go on for ??

We know from before that with Hurst we get these runs and they can last

Yes the next two are VERY winnable but arguably so where the last three

Before we know it we are 5 without a win

We need a reaction from Hurst and the players starting next Sat at Aldershot

Let’s not blow this good start - it’s now time to fight and get back on top

Not having seen it, it’s difficult to tell directly. The commentary by Tondeur was crap it was hard to follow so I reserved judgment.

Since then I’ve read comments by the ‘just backers’ and on the basis of that I’d say yes it was crap.

To be fair I am not sure how many clubs could do well having five of their best players unavailable.

Fairly evident that the lack of a main striker signing is now more evident than ever.

I was only listening but it didn't seem to me that there was much service.  Long balls into a headwind.

Spot on mate.  We were shooting from everywhere and they were flying in.  Then for some reason we started to play more cagey football, which has not benefitted us. I suspect we are lacking McAtee's drive but we can't rely on his to keep us motivated.

To have a good attack you need service from the midfield which hasn't been forthcoming in the last 3 matches. If the forwards don't get the balls from midfield they will never score however good they might be.

Apart from Sunderland doesn't look like it

Part time St Albans beat top of League 2 FGR 3-2.

Jeffers up front for St Albans looked a decent player. 17 goals and 5 assists this season, been around the block of league and non league clubs.

Must admit that Jeffers look quite impressive, but we've taken a punt on a non league player with a decent record and he's on loan at Stourbridge and some donkey gave him a 3 year deal!!
