Really looking forward to this one and after today's excellent win I'm expecting a bumper crowd.

Reckon they'll bring a few as well.

Good test for us.

Looking forward to seeing how we fare against one of the more fancied sides.

Second big test of the season. A good result will give us a clear idea of how quickly we’ll get there.

Bring it on.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,

Nothing to fear for me, we’re as good as them but haven’t shot our bolt yet…

Let’s be honest, after being the worst team in the football league, nobody expected 3 wins and a draw after four games.

Take each one as they come and so far nobody looks any good to be honest…

The sort of game that if we win should give us real confidence going forward. Fair to say Stockport, another one of the fancied teams weren’t up to that much and their results besides our draw have been poor. I really think we have a decent shot at automatic promotion this season and it’s great to still be in contention after 4 games, that barely happened last time!

If you haven’t got back to BP yet this season I think Tuesday is the best option for you to come and see the Park full again. Next Saturday is the second best option.

God knows how many will be there on Saturday if we win on Tuesday.

I'm starting to think that drawing at home to us was a better result for Stockport than it was for us.

For me if we're serious about fighting for the top spot we should be looking to win all our home games. A draw is good but i hope we continue to play the way we are, I can't see why we can't get 3 points. UTM

I think Wrexham will be proper opposition and a good test. Has to be a win for us on the form we have and the confidence the team will have.

I'd take a scruffy 89th minute winner with the game lacking any quality of sort. The sort of games we need to be winning if we are serious about challenging for that top spot.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, looking back, I’d argue Stockport were lucky and should be happy with the draw they managed to get from us.

I don’t worry about Wrexham in the slightest, and to be honest, we always seem to fair better against better sides. They have that boring long throw which is just agricultural at best and when I saw them against Notts County they didn’t look any better than anyone else.

Let’s not get drawn in to the PR nonsense surrounding them. Their start hasn’t been mind blowing and we will be full of confidence after our start…

Yes on paper a bigger test for sure, but we appear to be playing with confidence which means so much. The support is making such a difference and hopefully the good vibe will carry on for a long while yet.

I'm gutted because I'm away on business in Devon (ironically after yesterday) and need to travel down there Tuesday PM, to keep numbers up though I've lent my season ticket card to someone who can't get to many games so all being well they'll have a good night and a win for Town.

Hurst says that he only wants to bring in a striker that improves the team straightaway.  With 7 goals in our last 2 games he might need to be looking at a combination of the calibre of Lewandowski, Kane and the clinical finishing and potential of Greenwood.

If the new management team can secure such a player for say £1,000 a week on a 5 year deal then this would be ok.  Given our performances and results though such a striker might have second thoughts about coming here as he might struggle to get in the team. 😉😀

On Wrexham, money does not always deliver success (or even trump team spirit which we have).
Man City have not won the CL despite spending a few billion.

Forest and Villa each won the European Cup twice on very modest budgets.  Good management and excellent team spirit being key success factors.  And they “kept us shape”.

If we beat Wrexham - and even at this early stage - I think we can start to believe we could be top three at very least
I say this cos:
Team/squad still gelling and can only get better
Number of players to come back
PH has made some excellent signings who are already proving their worth
We are showing great spirit to come back from being behind
We have goals and an attacking threat

We also seem to have a great balance and pace plus a touch of quality - Towler, Hunt, McAtee, Coke

A draw would be OK Tuesday then beat Eastleigh

7pts from every three games would do us nicely - but we are bound to lose a few (??!!)

I think we've all seen enough shite over the years to know when we are on to something good...

They had over 8000 at the Racecourse yesterday.  Not sure if Plod has restricted their ticket allocation (?) but I reckon the Osmond is going to have a good few sheep lovers in attendance. Should make for a good atmosphere.

When did we last have 5000 home fans for a Tuesday night League game (so not play-offs)? I can't remember an instance for years - I checked 2016/17 and our best on a Tuesday that season was Carlisle 4.8k so maybe 4.6k home fans. The best in the Holloway mini-boom was 4,175 v Stevenage. It might even be the championships days since we did.

In the 70s Tuesday nights often had bigger crowds than Saturday's probably because of work patterns on the docks etc, but for years now we've struggled to get over 4k on a Tuesday.

Maybe thousands are returning to Blundell Park...

You have to question the thinking of the league, we didn’t play midweek in the week just gone, nor do we play next week yet they’ve picked this week, first week of champions league which naturally has an impact on attendances.

Clearly they thought last week would have been impacted by international call ups 😉

I get England played on the Wednesday but we know fair weather folk would rather stay in an watch teams they don’t care about and spunk cash on bets…it’s weird. Just play midweek the following week…

To 'think' the league management have to have something between their ears. Last season's total mismanagement of the NL with covid showed that they have no brains, no forethought, and no planning.

Let's hope we get out of this s hit hole the first time, and never to return.

Ordinarily I’d agree with you, but that 8k includes a lot of Johnny come lately’s. It’s one thing to commit to a season ticket round the corner from your house when some Hollywood megastars come to town, but another to make the trek from Wrexham to BP on a Tuesday night.

200-300 would be my guess.

I don’t get it either, though when you read the Wrexham forum they have a tiny minority who sound a bit p1ssed that their new owners haven’t attended a have yet.

I think at this level especially it's all about being relatable and in it together. It will be very interesting to see what happens at Wrexham if they are still stuttering in a few games.

I have never or nor will watch Champions league over a Town game at home.

I support Town, could not give a excrement about the Champions league when Town are playing at home.

Unfortunately at the moment unable to attend BP through ill health, so its the radio for me.

Cheer the lads on for me.

On reflection i have to agree on that. If you work in Wrexham, by car  you would need to set off 3:30 & get home in the early hours to back in work the next day.  However if you are 'working from home' hey rock - on life's good.  By train it's an overnight stay. Not good.

If they bring more than 450 I’ll be surprised, not because I think their support is excrement but the fact folks are back at work after summer and lack of trains and folk not having time to get here from work…

I have never or nor will watch Champions league over a Town game at home.

I support Town, could not give a excrement about the Champions league when Town are playing at home.

Unfortunately at the moment unable to attend BP through ill health, so its the radio for me.

Cheer the lads on for me.

I don't watch Champions League period. I don't watch The Premiersh*t either.

I get that but sadly, folk will watch it, do watch it and it just seems daft playing games on the same night when they don’t need to.

In what way are they a franchise?

So our new owners are white knights ushering a new dawn of sunlit happiness and Wrexham's new owners have turned them into a franchise?

Just a small reality check.....

Much has been made of the Wrexham long throw (with some contemptuous comments on here) but, based on the highlights I have watched, we look a bit vulnerable to high balls pumped into the box from the wings. There were a couple of examples on Saturday where Torquay caused us some issues - we have quite a bit of ball watching and our marking at the back post can be woeful.

A long throw might be a very effective weapon against us.

Based on the highlights you've watched, what are their corners like? Would it be better that we concede a corner rather than a throw?

Can't comment, haven't seen enough. We look a little vulnerable from open play or set pieces, I've seen a number of instances of us allowing the ball to bounce or standing watching when we should be getting a challenge in. I suspect that we haven't quite got it right with following runners or we have players out of position as a result of attacks breaking down when it's open play. At set pieces I think it's just poor marking.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a crisis by any means. But if we could tighten this up we'd reduce opportunities even more than we are doing.

There is always something to moan about. Ironing those small issues out sooner rather than later are what will make a huge difference come the end of the season.

We don't have a settled back 4 either and it's a completely new team so it's understandable. I'm going off memory here so correct me if I'm wrong but these are what I think our back line has been so far:

Weymouth: Efete Longe-King Pearson Crookes
Stockport: Efete Waterfall Longe-King Crookes Revan
Barnet: Efete Waterfall Pearson Crookes
Torquay: Efete Waterfall Towler Crookes

4 games in and our defence has been different every game so we are no doubt getting used to one another in an actual game situation. I mean Towler can't have had more than 2 sessions with the squad.

Yep, good point. I was a bit freaked out by Barnet putting 3 past us but Torquay was much better. I have a mate who supports Barnet and he asked me how the hell we let in 3 against them, he thinks they're sh*t.
Another factor for me is that I don't think we've played any teams that are serious contenders - Stockport look like they may not be the side everyone thinks they are. How are we going to do against one of the really good sides in this league?
Boreham Wood and Chesterfield have only let in 2 goals in 5 games (I don't know who they've played to be fair) so they are tight at the back.

Again, I am very happy where we are. We look better than we have done for a very long time. I just want us to get better and better.

Sounds like the perfect conditions for a game tomorrow.

Under the floodlights, big crowd and a slick pitch.

Wet conditions may also limit the long throws as long as we don't let them place towels around the pitch.

See Ben Tozer plays for them now. Let's hope he doesn't stamp on more young players because they did him a bunch of times and he was angry. Wrexham fans seem to think he's a "class act"

I don't think we need to fear anybody in this league, certainly not the vanity projects of the rich and famous.

I know there is a covered area at the back but it won't be much fun queuing for a drink out in the open in the Fanzone.

To be honest I can’t understand the dislike for Wrexham ( if there is actually any) they’ve been through as much shite as us over the years and things are looking on the up for them .
It’ll be a good test for us to see how good our team is against what should be one of the title contenders .

Ones things for sure though is they won’t bring as many fans as we’ll take there as nobody can touch our away support in this league

Absolutely, they’ve had a horrendous time and are a proper club.  It’s not like it’s some no mark tinpotters with a sugar daddy.
I hope they do well and it’s not a disaster other than tomorrow.

I’m not sure it’s such a big game as much as it is an exciting one, it’s early days yet and plenty of time to recover if we don’t get the right result. Be great if we can win though.

This will be a stern test.

Wrexham are one of the favourites for good reason. they've signed some good players over the summer.

But Town should be full of confidence. Should be a good game. I expect it to be tight even a bit nervy. A Town win really gets us flying. A point wouldnt be the end of the world.

Its been a good start but lets not get too carried away just yet. Its early days.

On a 70's football facebook group I am on a pic popped up yesterday of a sports newspaper (bit like the sports telegraph) from that day in 1976. Shows Town had just beaten Millwall in Division 3 and after 5 games sat 2nd behind Crystal Palace with 4 wins and one defeat...........we ended up relegated that season.

So lets not get ahead of ourselves. Lets see if we can continue to build on the fine start.

Nothing to fear for me, we’re as good as them but haven’t shot our bolt yet…

Let’s be honest, after being the worst team in the football league, nobody expected 3 wins and a draw after four games.

Take each one as they come and so far nobody looks any good to be honest…

Genuinely looking forward to listening tomorrow night and I think it'll give us a proper idea of how good we are.
Although we've played ok, Stockport are rubbish under Rusk, Torquay a shadow of last seasons side and Barnet/Weymouth mediocre at best. Tomorrow will be real test although I gather Wrexham aren't quite firing on all cylinders. Should be a cracking atmosphere under the lights at the BP (quote Marcus) and if beat these it starts to get serious!!

I think this is the best for a Tuesday night league match for circa 18 years - I can't find a match by match attendance record going back far enough to check but, based upon an average Tuesday night crowd of maybe 3.5k over the last 10 years, perhaps Pen Penfras would like to now confirm now that thousands are indeed returning...

Not related to the tickets but anyone else noticed how much more paul Hurst is smiling compared to his previous spell under the tyrant regime.

Seems more engaging and overall happier now its a new regime.

No doubt he will point to the team being at the right end of the table.

How did Tuesday nights fare in 05/06 or the later Hurst years when we were in contention every year?

In our first season back in the FL, so a division above the one we're in now and off the back of a joyous promotion season we had the following Tuesday night home games:
27/9/16 v Newport County. Att: 4296
22/11/16 v Carlisle United. Att: 4818
28/2/17 v Colchester United. Att: 4186

But Pen Penfras is right of course, there are no fans coming back now that the club is free from Fenty's malignant stranglehold.

Can't find a season record with attendances but we only averaged 5,200, and that includes 8,500 for the last infamous Northampton game plus a Lincoln game that would have 7k+. I recall that there was a half-term ticket offer for a Friday night game that had a big crowd, but with that overall average, there can't have been more than one or two Tuesday nights with 5k+.

Pen Penfras really did talk a load of crap didn't he!!

Out of interest which sharp object stated Gary Cohen was taking the club for a ride? Was GYFR using that name as far back as 2006?

Had some spare time so had a look at at their Red Passion fans site.  An interesting perspective.

A negative with their new found optimism:  questions about when will their new (absent) owners attend their first home Match?

They accept that we are on a roll.  Expect about 400 to travel.  From 5,834 season ticket holders.which means fewer tickets sold for individual home games.

Amazingly one fan said that is was very quick and easy to buy a ticket from Grimsby. Got the tickets bar straightaway on his phone.
This was compared to the hassle of trying to buy and collect a paper ticket from Wrexham.( How quickly have we modernised?).

Their comments  on the Woking game last Sat:
MOM Mullin (8.5) Clever player, draws fouls, pulls defenders all over the place.  Set up chances all afternoon.  Set up the only goal.

Hyde:  ( very hard worker.

J Jones:  (7) A very clever player, faded a bit in 2nd half. Key player going forward.

Defence:  sound and solid.

Midfield:  not so good, needs strengthening in Jan.

Davies an injury doubt for Grimsby.  D Jones sent off v Woking.

Cod Almighty upset many fans with 4 pages on their site complaining about an attack on their owners and saying taking and unhealthy interest in their club.  They said “jealousy”.

Summary:
No surprises with Wrexham.  We know what to expect.  Essential to try and keep Mullin and Hyde as quiet as possible.  A very interesting game looks on the cards in front of a big crowd. An early test in which to measure our progress.

Reckon Pontoon and Findus will be sold out by midnight. Imagine if I told you 6 months ago that we’d get relegated and we’ll sell out our third home game in the league on a Tuesday night. Spread the word, UTM

Not sure we need a new ground but we might need to put another tier on all the current stands. Within the next 24hrs if possible.

D’ya reckon we could squeeze one of these in the Findus car park overnight?

In the 70s the town would respond relatively quickly to a winning team - you'd get a 1-1,500 kick up in the crowd after a couple of good results (and it would often go the other way with a couple poor results). Even from the relative bouyant Holloway period in early 2020 when we got to circa 4,500 regulars we will have added 1,500 in just 3 games and following a relegation. Not saying we are going to sell out the home areas every game but we have response from the population of Gy ad Clee that we haven't had for years

I know in the context of the season on the pitch at this stage it’s “another Tuesday game” if we win tomorrow scoring a couple of goals on the way it would be massive in terms of keeping the feel good factor going.

All that going on and I’ll have to settle for listening on line in a Plymouth hotel 🤦‍♂️

1783 sold in the ponny (cap = 1808 )
826 in lower (cap = 826)
1977 in upper (cap = 1982)
Main stand cap = 2227. sold?
Osmand cap = 1884. sold?

So not including the main or osmond that's just over 4.5k. So over 1100 sold in main on the presumption Wrexham have done 400?

I've just counted 243 (plus 28 disabled) spaces in the Main. The final block (seats 137-153) is unavailable to select. You also have the first 7/8 rows in the block either side of the tunnel unavailable so I doubt the capacity is 2227.

Kristine said on Twitter that a home sell out is 7100 as we can't open the Osmond tomorrow.

Caps on the OS must be wrong then. Add all the home stands caps listed on the OS together and it comes to 6843.

Anyone else think that the ease of buying tickets now (slightly) helps us? Anyone can buy a ticket, know exactly where they’re sat, and get it on their phone. I know no one thinks ‘wow, i would never go to a Grimsby game, but now it’s on my phone I will go every game’ but it’s just one less ‘hassle’ having to log in to an old website which barely works, say where you vaguely want to sit, and then turn up early to stand in a queue to get your ticket. For those who can’t get to BP easily before a game, or who finish work quite late, knowing you can buy at any time and just turn up might change a few ‘I’ll leave it’ games to ‘intercourse it, I may as well’

I messaged my dad tonight who works away telling him to get sorted for Saturday and that he needs to get a +1 for my lad.

He bought tickets yesterday but not for my lad. The seat next to him was still available so I've sorted it and my lad can still go! Under the old ticketing system, I would have had to tell my lad the bad news.

Yes I’m a little nervous about the rain tomorrow, not sure if all the rain throughout the day will take it’s toll on the pitch, starts from 10am and looks like it’s going to get progressively heavier as the day goes on up to kick off and into the night. Really hoping it’s not going to spoil the party but the heaviest rain is bang on us and doesn’t budge!! Will our pitch really be able to take 10hrs of solid rain worse scenario?

The way things are going Wrexham will be praying for a postponement to give their squad more time to gel. Mind you, having said that, just watch Mullin go and bang in a couple 😆

Through the door there came familiar laughter,

Several factors here creating these large crowds…

In order:
One and a half seasons of no crowds allowed.
Great start to the season.
Wrexham have a good team.
The new owners creating a feel good factor.
Ease of ticketing.
Better facilities.
Better team!

I will be interested to see if this momentum can be kept up with crowd numbers and results.
I really hope so because it is absolutely brilliant and I am BUZZING,

I said this yesterday and got the feeling on here that I was overreacting but I can see 10 hours of heavy rain before and during the game on that forecast. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done to the pitch, that amount of water on the pitch continuously is going to be a real problem. Hell, for Macclesfield at home it washed out the game in 30 minutes.

I don't see the strength of the opposition being that much of a factor here, I certainly would not have it above "The new owners creating a feel good factor"

My concern is that in the past in front of big crowds the players has tended to "freeze" and struggled to put on a good display, hopefully that is in the past however and not now.

A good performance/result tonight would represent a terrific start to the season and will keep the big attendances coming.

Think the opposition tonight is a big factor, like it or not. The fact that they've spent relatively big money, had shed loads of publicity and are unbeaten makes a significant difference. If it was Boreham Wood the feel good factor would have helped but not to this extent

Yeah like it or not the team now known as "Ryan Reynold's Wrexham" have had huge publicity, and they are spending big, it will have been a factor in casual fans deciding to come and watch.

Yeah like it or not the team now known as "Ryan Reynold's Wrexham" have had huge publicity, and they are spending big, it will have been a factor in casual fans deciding to come and watch.

Can't see that to be honest.  I'd be amazed if anyone had bought a ticket because Wrexham are owned by Ryan Reynolds et al.  It's not like he's going to be playing up front for them.  They've signed Paul Mullin and Ben Tozer, albeit very good players and on mega money at this level, but it's not Ronaldo and Messi they've signed.

Potentially a bit of an early promotion battle feel to it, arguably similar to when we played them Xmas time in 2012/13 but that's about as much of an influence the opposition have over this.  For me it's down to the fact we've made a very good start to the season (which we rarely do), there's a genuine thirst for live football after over a year without it, word has got out that the last two home games have been good entertainment (great in the case of the Barnet game) plus the added bonuses of the food options in the corners, but in the whole it's the feel good factor generated with the new regime.

My first proper season was the Div 3 promotion season of 1990/91, I can't remember a feel good feeling like this ever before.  Not through any of the promotions or great escapes.  This is something special.

Think you’ve missed one factor out.

The old owner is no longer with us 😀😀😀😀😀

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

Great turnout for a home game and still time for more !

Looks like the Telegraph think that Mullin is bringing a large tent tonight, as they have today named him as a marquee striker, not a marque, where marque means a high level of product, usually used for high brand vehicles !

So he is either a Rolls Royce or a circus ???????

Just a small reality check.....

Much has been made of the Wrexham long throw (with some contemptuous comments on here) but, based on the highlights I have watched, we look a bit vulnerable to high balls pumped into the box from the wings. There were a couple of examples on Saturday where Torquay caused us some issues - we have quite a bit of ball watching and our marking at the back post can be woeful.

A long throw might be a very effective weapon against us.

Torrential rain forecast all day (yellow weather warning). Hope the game will be on and that it doesn't affect our fast flowing football. Really looking forward to tonight's match.

I’ve seen people on Facebook concerned about the size of the crowd 😂
Jesus it wasn’t that long ago that we often got crowds double what will be there tonight , I’m guessing we still have the same amount of turnstiles and a lot more stewards.
Hopefully some success will put pressure on our capacity and nudge a bit more urgency for a new ground

We don't freeze under the new era Davec, unless we get Wrexham in the trophy final again!

That was so fricking cold it was like Stalingrad.

Gosh that was freezing that day wasn't it!

The coldest I have been is Buxton away in the FA trophy, i literally watched a discarded cup of rain water freeze into ice before my very eyes

I bought a cup of tea just to keep my hands warm and I already had gloves on. Definitely by far the coldest game I've ever attended - and the roads home were really icy afterwards. I remember it was 1-0 - did Hannah score the winner?

Let's hope we don't do what we normally do when playing in front of a big home crowd.
That's playing poorly and lose!

Coldest I ever was at a game was an FA Cup replay at Halifax in 1987. You pretty much watched the pitch turn white in front of your eyes as the game went on and in the closing stages players were slipping about all over the place. I still can't believe that the match actually finished. To make things worse we were awful that night and lost 2-0 and Halifax went on to play Nottm Forest at home in the 3rd round who were a fairly decent Division One team back then.

If we’re discounting other special occasions like play-offs then I genuinely can’t think of one since the early / mid nineties (Newcastle, West Brom).

There must have been others in the interim but the fact they don’t immediately spring to mind tells you a lot about the significance of this.
