I must have been living under a rock but what's this all about?

As if there isn't enough competitions already.

I've just turned on the Spurs game and talk about a weakened side.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

It’s a farce… but I don’t think Town will be threatening it any time soon so I’m not going to overly worry about it!

Isn't it the rebranded UEFA Cup / Europa League?

It’s a third tier European competition for third tier European clubs like Tottenham. A badly executed rebirth of the CWC - a bit like the Champions League is a badly executed league for Champions.

Looks like it's on the level with the Zenith Data Systems Cup.

Well Spurs still played the likes of new signing £42.5m Romero, not to mention regulars Davies, Doherty, Lo Celso, Winks & Sessegnon.

Just Spurs being Spursy again

Well... Just my personal opinion but I think it's all a load of balderdash. Same as the champions league. For me the champions league should be a league (or league / knock out) of each countries champions. Not the top 4 and then a winner of a cup in some countries then just 1 or 2 from others.

Hopefully it will have the same pizzaz as The Tunnocks Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

Truly the holy grail of all cup competitions.

I wonder if you also win a lifetime supply of Tunnocks Caramel Wafers?

As with everything about top level football its all about money and TV money and less about actual accomplishments on the pitch.

I understand the "Champions' League is a misnomer but the days of a European Cup for national champions are gone.

The big clubs of the big leagues spend so much money to compete against each other they need the Champions League financially and hence 4 or more teams from these countries enter. Indeed as shown by the the ill conceived idea of a Super League there a clubs who want even more and a guaranteed entry into elite competitions. Particularly Italy and Spain whose clubs cant compete with English Premier League money. At the expense of the integrity of the game. Newsflash there is no integrity in the game.

The irony of this new Conference League is that for the clubs from bigger leagues they already dont give a stuff about the 2md tier Europa League. They field weak sides now. Its all about Champions League or nothing. Thursday football is seen by some as an inconvenience. So how these teams treat the competition we shall see. Probably not bothered.

Its likely only the minnows who will take it seriously in the beginning until the latter stages of course when theres a trophy on offer and some cash. Just like our League Cup. Spurs will likely field weaknend sides and claim they arent bothered really unless they get to the QF or later then be sure the 1st teamers will be playing.
