At least £500,000 according to this and then there's the academy that's living on borrowed time, 2 more seasons I think it is before the EFL/Prem funding stops.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Meanwhile, our new owners had to purchase a club from a bloke that pretty much never put a penny in and stole £200k…

Fundamentally, relegation costs a lot. You’d imagine the impact of playing games with barely any away games, less tv money, probably can’t charge as much fit advertising etc all has an impact…

Most of our income goes on players, we still get a similar amount of players except we can't afford as good ones so the quality drops.

If/when the funding stops for our academy does that mean any players we then have in it will cease to be poachable under the rules they are now? I.e. Will they have to be bought rather than taken given a paltry amount of compensation for?

If funding stops for the Academy then it would be down scaled at worst. I’d be amazed if we scrapped it as that would be Fenty scale fail.

Don't know what it has cost us financially but emotionally, it's taken a huge toll. At least it has on me.

This was rammed home brutally last night when I saw that Brentford had beaten Arsenal in their first top flight game for over 70 years and in a new stadium to boot.

The paths our two teams have taken over the previous decade or more couldn't be more stark. One team getting it so right and the other so wrong.

Just to ram it home some more, Wrexham played Brentford the year they were relegated from the league. The gulf between the two clubs couldn't be greater.

I guess the caveat of this then is to the people on here who have been whining about not getting a new striker or the new owners not giving the beat budget in the league.

A club that is run as a proper organisation with a clear structure to allow for sustainability will in the long term result in progress and achievement. Brentford’s model is really interesting and based on analytics when it comes to player recruitment and there’s a few articles on how they’ve achieved success.

But if we don’t buy a no.9 immediately then we are doomed to immortal failure…
