Had the pleasure of meeting David Prutton yesterday, through work. Very likeable bloke — shared some of his memories of playing at Grimsby for Forest. He remembered the 4-3 game (although forgot that Beasant and Hjelde got sent off in the match).

He's a big fan of Jack Lester. Remembered how excited the club was to sign him. All his teammates found him difficult to deal with in training because of his ability to win fouls. Really rates him as a youth coach and they're still mates.

Doesn't know Doig now but remembers him from Forest. Always thought he'd have a good career and go into coaching. 'Every club needs a Doigy' were his words.

Naturally, I told him all the Holloway stuff. Don't think he knows him well, but has probably spoken to him via Sky over time. Obviously there's a lot about our past two decades he knew nothing about, but he did know the name 'John Fenty'. Funny what sticks.

When Lester went to Chesterfield as manager, he wanted Buckley as assistant and told Buckley that a lot of his training drills are ones the great man used to do here.

Doig strikes me as a very bold character and I'm surprised he hasn't tried to go alone yet but Hurst obviously trusts him and takes him everywhere. I heard that Hurst was sacked by Ipswich because they wanted to sack Doig and he stuck up for him.

I heard Buckley talking about Lester wanting him at Chesterfield. He turned it down but told him he was always just a phone call away for any advice he needed. One thing he told him was that the most important thing he needs to do is get an assistant that he truly trusts because most of them are after the managers job.

Limbrick always had management ambitions having had a taste of it before coming here, as caretaker and now in Europe with TNS so I wonder if Holloway wanted him out for this reason?

On your John Fenty point, people talk. We got through 40+ players last season and footballers pick the brains of others they know have played at clubs before they sign. That name will be a noose around our neck for some time as not everyone will know. B Corp publicity will help and in time, it will be common knowledge that we are building a positive culture.

The change in culture and changes to the facilities would have helped us get Revan here from Villa. Under the old regime I very much doubt that we could have attracted a player of his stature here.

You say that but we got England U20 international Easah Suliman on loan from Aston Villa under Slade in 2018 who went on to play 2 games for us.

Jolley then got England U20 international Elliot Embleton on loan from Sunderland in the summer of 2018.

Runaway brought in the promising Anthony Glennon and Josh Benson before following it up last summer with the loan signings of Danny Preston and his mate Virgil Gomis, Kyle Bennett, James Morton, Terry Taylor, Owen Windsor and a seventh loan signing (despite only being able to play 5) who made such an impression, their name escapes me.

If I recall he got sent off at BP for a foul on Gally . We either won 1 nil or drew 1/1 Burnett scoring. Can anyone confirm this ?

I seem to remember Buckley deliberately referring to the late Arthur Mann as his reserve team coach and not his assistant manage,r with words to the effect that there is only room for one boss.

I have never met David Prutton but my lad has played against his in junior football and he was unsurprisingly excellent.

Remember that game vividly. Was sat up in the upper Smiths as it was then, albeit a 13 year old at the time. Lester was relentless that day and although Forest had the two reds the scoreline flattered them. Shame it was that game that lead David Platt to sign him only a month or so later.

Shame we didn’t get Jack back later in his career as however well he played for us it was actually the least prolific spell of his career in front of goal.

What a player though.

Either that, or a record of one win in fifteen games.
