I see that there is a Broadley FC legends day being held at BP in August in aid of Blood Cancer UK.

It mentions Super Clive by name too, who I know has been a bit of a recluse since his football career ended so it'll be great to see him and many of the other players mentioned, gracing the BP pitch again.

Have a look on Twitter for @BroadleyFC. Click on 'media' and you will be able to see all of the ex players who are turning out for them.......including several who I have struggled to remember

I know Matt has been working hard on this with the help of the real life legend that is Macca.

Covid put the kybosh on the original plans I believe and for varying reasons it was planned to be held at Lindum, thankfully it’s at BP now, with some genuine town hero’s and will no doubt raise some serious cash for a great charity.

Top banana again...

I don't think anyone who supports Grimsby needs to be reminded of what a legend John McDermott is — but even in retirement, years beyond his last appearance for us, while assistant manager of a local club down the road, his value to us as a club, and a community, is immense. I believe he's been instrumental in attracting a lot of these players back — something that very few footballers could do, on this scale, for any other team in the country.

Thanks Macca (the original Macca), you're literally a legend!

Looking on Facebook the number of players and variety is massively impressive and beyond what you'd even expect at a testimonial. Some names here I would have never expected to lay my eyes on again at BP. Obviously they have been steadily announcing it for a few months now so I hope all are still available to come along.

From what I can gather the Legends team is:

Manager: Macca
Assistant Manager: Alan Buckley

GK: Steve Mildenhall, James McKeown, Aidan Davison

DF: Rob Jones, Gary Croft, Matt Bloomer, Justin Whittle, Mark Lever, Tom Newey, Richard Smith, Tony Gallimore, Paul Agnew, Andy Tillson, Danny Butterfield, Georges Santos, Carl Magnay, Ben Futcher, Josh Gowling

MF: Craig Disley, Paul Groves, Gary Cohen, Paul Bolland, Wayne Burnett, Kingsley Black, Ciaran Toner, Andy Parkinson, Gary Childs, Kevin Donovan, Alan Pouton, Curtis Woodhouse, John Cockerill, Peter Till, Tommy Widdrington, Shaun Cunnington, Chris Hargreaves, Tommy Watson, Marcus Marshall, Nathan Arnold

FW: Liam Hearn, Micky Boulding, Gary Jones, Steve Livingstone, Phil Jevons, Clive Mendonca, Michael Reddy, Jack Lester, Isaiah Rankin, Danny North, Martin Gritton, Lee Nogan

That’s a fantastic line up. It should be a great day. Bet tickets will go quickly.

May as well pick out a legends day fantasy XI for a bit of fun....

GK- Aidan Davison
DEF- Danny Butterfield
DEF- Rob Jones
DEF- Justin Whittle
DEF- Carl Magnay
MID- Craig Disley
MID- Paul Groves
MID- Alan Pouton
FOR- Livvo
FOR- Michael Reddy
FOR- Mick Boulding Clive Mendonca

That was harder than I thought it would be! That midfield would dominate any team nowadays!

If Justin Whittle is playing do you reckon we should send an invite out to Alan Shearer to see if he want to come along?

Surely if we’re doing a ‘GTFC Legends 11’ then it should actually be a ‘GTFC Legends 10’ because Super Clive gets in everyone’s side and automatically is chosen...

Actually impossible to pick a favourite XI from that line-up.

Fantastic work from Matt and everyone else involved, including Macca.  Dickie was an absolutely brilliant lad who is sorely missed.  The work done to keep his memory alive and raise a small fortune for charity is unbelievable.

Purely from a footballing point of view, it's almost fitting that the new era will be ushered in with such an exhibition to remind us that of the good times and that they can return in the future.

This could be a really big event, it's annoying that we don't know how many tickets are going to be available with restrictions still unclear. Hopefully everyone who wants to go can get a ticket.

Quoted from Les Brechin
If Justin Whittle is playing do you reckon we should send an invite out to Alan Shearer to see if he want to come along?

The funniest bit of that was after the match when Shearer said "It would have been easy for me to go out there and do him because that is what I wanted to do but I had to be sensible," Hahahaha yeah sure, Al. Whittle was absolutely nails.

Quoted from jaygy

There are players in that list that were totally forgotten about by the club, players like Livvo who never got his testimonial, Macca who was hardly getting paid at the end of his career despite all his years of commitment. It will be great for the fans to show that we never forgot them even if the club did

Thanks for the kind words everyone! The list of players is still growing and we'll announce those names in due course! Since the date was put to the legends we've not had anyone pull out, but of course they may have commitments that come up between now and then.

Some legends won't play due to injuries and age, but they all want to attend the day to show support to Blood Cancer UK, the fans and to meet up with one another again.

Ticket information will be announced soon.

Seriously can someone at the club sort out filming and selling this I'd love to have a copy to keep. More money for charity too.

I’d happily pay if a streaming option was available. I bet the demand for tickets will far exceed availability assuming there’ll be restrictions on how many we’re allowed to have in the ground.

Surely that's possible, as it's an organised private event? I'd also pay to watch it online if I can't get a ticket.

They tried to contact him but couldnt find him, unfortunately the doctors surgery that he had left as a forwarding address closed down soon after he retired.
