Knows the league so would probably give him a season to see if he can pull off a miracle but I would have reservations.

Of course we keep Hurst.... he isn't the reason we are in this mess, it's more the question; does Hurst want to manage in the national league again....? Knows the league and knows what you need to get promoted, even if it did take him some time.

Not impressed so far I have to say.

Why the intercourse didn't we bring in some decent players weeks ago?

I assume that having a sizable war chest was a condition of taking the job.

We’d struggle to get another manager that’s done that job before , especially that would fine here.
In my eyes relaxation would not be Hursts fault

Under a penny-pinching chairman. Back him and let's see where it takes us. If we backed him in the league those years ago I wonder if we'd be here now. No point guessing though, he's got a promotion and would probably beat most managers that would want the job anyway.

With new owners we hopefully won't need to do an 'Operation Promotion' crowdfunder again to get a Bogle.

In my eyes if we go down that'll be it for a long, long time for the club. We won't have the Operation Promotion bounce, the fans enjoying visiting new non-league sides outnumbering home fans. We'll be a part of the gang officially.

If he wants to, yes.

Hurst signed an 18 month contract.

100% yes and I’ve said all along part of why he was recruited was that he has experience at getting a side out of the National League.

To be fair i would give him one season if he cannot do it he has to go.
He’s not impressed me since he came back and in the conference he had Boggle and Amond up front which were superb and he struggled

100% yes from me. He's alot more experienced now than when he was here before in the conference. If he can keep us in or near the playoff positions throughout the season I'd be more than happy. Even if we are non league it beats constantly struggling in league 2 every week.

There was talk of 900,000 but I don't think it's been implemented yet. It'll probably come in as we drop down, negating our big fish status.

100% no for me.

Look at his recent record and our league positions whilst in the conference.

Because it seems that, as usual, we are struggling to get players to sign for Town. I wonder how many players he has missed out on who didn't want to come play for Grimsby due to geographical or league position.

I said that these games in January, against teams around us, have come too early due to the mess that Holloway had left us in,. It needed time Hurst to change tactics and players. However, I did expect better performances and more of a turn around by now.

I would not keep him if we go down.

Macca would still be in goal for a start. They ought to get a room those two.

I have been very disappointed with him thus far. He knew from watching us that a major, major overhaul was needed and he should have made sure he had the funds to get quality players in before he took the job. Mansfield squad players, players from long term injuries weren't going to do it, nor were inexperienced players.

Of course I don't blame him for the terrible position he inherited, but he should have been all guns blazing from minute one.

It was obvious to all and sundry what we needed, and we should have paid well over the odds to get them.

I don’t blame Hurst for recruitment. All the money in the world wouldn’t get players here. It’s bad enough when we’re a mid table team. The place stinks of failure.

Players don’t want to come. Vernam doesn’t want to come back. Until the change comes off the pitch, not much will change on it.

I’m referring to our current position in the league. Jolley had exactly the same problem when he first arrived. Get in the basement relegation zone and no one will touch you with a barge pole.

There is a relatively small pool of players that will sign for a league 2 team. None of them are Ronaldo, but some are good enough to do the job of keeping us up. Money is a big factor, plus maybe a decent length contract if they are deemed good enough.

These players don't earn fortunes,; a good pay day and they would come.

If he cannot attract who he wants ( he said when he joined he was keeping tabs on players from all over) then either he is at fault or the money isn't good enough. Rumour has it that we have re signed JLL which tells you all you need to know.

For those who keep talking about a "sizeable war chest" - how much in your minds do you think this was 100K, 200K, 300K, more? And whatever that figure is that you think existed was that just for transfer fees or would it cover transfer fees and wages?

My guess would be that PH was told he had about £100K (at a push) to play with and that money had to cover fees and wages.

The signings he's made have improved us, it's the players that were here already that are costing us.

Probably well known on here that I am not a fan of Hurst but I think we could do a lot worse than Hurst in non league. Hoping he could do what the Cowleys did for Lincoln and get us up pronto. Think he would have a bigger budget than he got last time with the parachute payments and a more progressive board behind him. Woods got that extra money last time but blew it on mostly mediocre players. Unless they bring in a salary cap, in which case we would probably be down there forever and would be just our luck if it happens.

If we did go down and Hurst did get us back up, that's when I'd say thanks Paul but we are bringing in someone more progressive now.

Hopefully, we won't be down there. Doesn't bear contemplating.
