I'm not posting this with the intention of being negative, but I was looking at some of the stats for League 2 last night and it's quite alarming how far down we are on some of them.
Team Stats Shots on target per match - unsurprisingly we're 23rd here, with an average on 2.6 shots on target per match. Southend are 24th.
Accurate passes per match - we're doing well on this considering our position, we're 10th in the division here with 270.9 accurate passes per match and a success rate of 67.3%. Having said that, current league leaders Carlisle are 24th in this one so make of that what you will.
Average possession - again we score well here in 9th position with 52.7%.
Possession won in final 3rd - another one we're doing alright in with 75 (assuming this is the total amount of times we've won the ball in the opponents final third), which puts us in 8th.
Penalties conceded - WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE SAY WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE with 6. Hardly surprising considering the utter panic that sets in every time the ball drops in our box.
Clearances per match - We're 7th here with an average of 23.2 per match.
Successful tackles per match - We're currently on 7.8 successful tackles per match which puts us at 21st overall, however we're in good company as the bottom six is us, Newport, Salford, Tranmere, Leyton Orient and Exeter. I'm guessing this is a result of us being on the ball a lot. The difference between those other five in the bottom six of this stat is that they do a lot more with the ball.
Okay, so that wasn't so damning. However, the next section isn't particularly pleasing to read...
Player Stats Minutes per goal - Our best player on this table is James Tilley in 49th position with a goal every 288 minutes.
Assists - Kyle Bennett, with 2 assists is our best player left in the current squad (Edwards had 3) in joint 56th position.
Shots on target per match - Yikes. We all knew this was gonna be bad but brace yourself. Matt Green is our best here with 0.4 shots on target per match on average, which is the 96th highest in the division. Owen Windsor featured slightly higher on 0.5.
Successful dribbles per match - Do you want the good news or the bad news here? The good news is that we've got someone in 3rd here...the bad news is it's Owura Edwards. After that we're going all the way down to 92nd position where we've got James Tilley on 0.6 successful dribbles per match.
Key passes per match - Kyle Bennett 29th with 1.5 key passes per match. Not good but not absolutely terrible.
Accurate passes per match - Terry Taylor is in 29th, but of the players we have left we're going to Luke Hendrie in 56th position on 29.5 accurate passes per match. The good news here is that I spotted two players that have been sold in this window up in the top 20/30 so combine that with Taylor's absence and Hendrie is actually in at least 53rd.
Possession won in final 3rd - Owen Windsor is in 41st and Edwards is in 66th but of those left it's Bennett in 79th, who has won the ball 7 times in the opposition's final third.
Clearances per match - Hold onto your hair pieces Town fans, we've only gone and got two of top twenty here. Waterfall in 4th with an average of 6.6 clearances per match and 132 in total and Pollock in 16th with 97 in total and an average of 5.1 per match
Successful tackles per match - Our best here is again Kyle Bennett in 67th position with 1.2 successful tackles per match.
Conclusion: Kyle Bennett isn't as bad as some are making out, however we most certainly are. Let's hope Hurst can sort this mess out.
