Desperate times demand desperate measures...
So with that flimsy justification, I'll introduce the "Be a Town player for 5 minutes" scheme.
Any supporter can - for some financial consideration paid to the club - start the next match, take the kick-off, and be subbed after 5 minutes. (We've got 5 subs, and it's doubtful we have 16 players we're happy to see wearing a Town shirt, so no problem there.)
It would require some amendment to the regulations about player registration, but given the "anything goes if it means extra cash" mentality which pervades our footballing hierarchy, I can't see that being much of a problem either.
Laugh at me as much as you like, but you'll soon be thinking about how much you'd be prepared to part with.
Are those creaks and groans I hear the sound of Grimsby Pete exercising...?

The Town supporter would probably end up being MOTM for us.

Didn't we have something a few years ago where you there was an auction to get in the team photo and get a squad number? If I remember rightly the FA or league weren't too happy it and it was never repeated? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/3106109.stm
The lad is 28 now and a STRIKER, so where is heand can he still score the odd goal?

I have had my 15 minutes of fame thanks when I played for the boys and juniors scoring 11 goals in 5 goals on the park. I had one game for Town A which I did not score but I was only 15.

Impressive! Did you score them all in the same goal or share them between the five?

The idea of paying to play, albeit for minutes, doesn't seem to be too bad. F1 teams do it and Crawley fielded a tv reality star for 3/4 minutes.

Which one was their goalie standing in Pete ? Seems you must have had a pint or three pre-match.

If we had five sets of goal posts on the pitch maybe one of our strikers would score now and then? It would mean more own goals though, obviously.

Sounds like you're a bit like me, Pete. I can remember some things from 30+ years ago with clarity - but ask me what I was doing 30 minutes ago & I'm not so sure! Keep on truckin' m8.
