Well not according to this they didn't:

“Him and his assistant Chris Doig weren’t sacked at Scunny. They thought the team were on the way up but it was such a circus off the pitch and they walked out."

Sound familiar.

When Leeds trainer Les Cocker was once told Norman Hunter had broken a leg, he asked: “Whose is it?”

Didn’t realise that he’s one of the favourites for the Bradford job.

Why did I suddenly start sniffing?

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,
For in our hearts the dreams are still the same.

I thought most of the wording at the time was along the lines of "leaves Scunthorpe" rather than "sacked".  I don't think he hid the fact he found Swann difficult to work with.

Swann seemed to be under the impression that he sacked Hurst at the time:

Seem to think Swann used the word sacked at the time but did say it wasnt results, performance or coaching related but a breakdown in relations that did for them.
Hurst said similar at the time, I think when he went he was promised certain things but i think Swann had to downsize his budget when the Mrs closed the purse making him make a u turn on player budget and philosophy of playing the youth instead.

Would he do for Bradford?  Would shore them up no doubt and lift their position, Yorkshire so his dour personality might fit.

I’d take dour personality and results over hyperbole and Sunday league that we have now...

A scunny supporting mate was always under the impression Hurst walked like he did here...
