Going from what he said in his interview with Humberside, I’m guessing it’s the French bloke we had on trial earlier in the season?

Davies was a real handful but we're talking years ago.

Quick Google of him brings this up from his Wikipedia page:

Quoted Text
On 29 June 2018, Davies signed a two-year contract with League Two club Mansfield Town after the "Stags" paid Oldham an undisclosed fee.[68] He was reported to have been playing at "about 60 per cent of capacity" in the first half of the 2018–19 season due to bits of flaked-off bone getting trapped in his ankle joints and causing him constant pain; he underwent surgery in December and was ruled out of action for the rest of the season.[69] He managed to make only five appearances during the 2019–20 season, but was just getting back to match fitness when the season was ended in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic in England.[70] He was released by manager Graham Coughlan at the end of the campaign.[71]

With each name we're linked with, I think more and more that we're going to have to actually pay a fee for someone and/or get proven players in on loan who can't get a game.  Either way, something that's going to cost.

Just heard from a couple of people he has been training/trialling with us. Ollie confirmed we currently have 2 on trial. Craig Davies is a big powerful forward, who has played at a decent level, and has commanded fees in the past. He's 34 and had injury problems, so it's going to be down to how much he has left in the tank i would imagine. That is the extent of my knowledge.

I think we have already got a big powerful forward who is coming on to 34 with injury problems.

Do we need another one.?

might be just the opposite Pete; with Hanson and Green unavailable, Ollie doesn't want to rely on his project strikers, so he goes for experience instead?

The French lad ex Norwich should fit in well, doesn't appear to know where the net is and makes some of our current lot look experienced.

If he's offered terms it looks like Holloway is simply going down the same line again More clubs than Tony Jacklin (at just 23) and even less career goals than our current strikeforce

Surely theres an experienced journeyman striker out there looking for a game until May

“The French lad” is actually Belgian, but had played for Cameroon at youth levels. And he’s predominantly a right winger according to everything I’ve read.

It's easy to be critical, but I guess this is what is out there until the window opens and Ollie is taking a look to see if some of them are viable.

Craig Davies if he can prove he is fit has plenty of goals in his career. Personally given how few games he's played in last year and a bit and his age you'd try and minimise the risk even if he's fit I.e monthly or pay as you play terms.

ity have completed the signing of young Belgian striker Pierre Fonkeu.

Fonkeu, who came through the youth system at Club Brugge, has signed a two-year contract with the Club after impressing during a successful trial with City’s Under-23s.

The forward, 20, played in a number of pre-season friendlies for the U23s and he will continue to train with the Academy.

“Pierre integrated really quickly into the group, and mainly that was down to his performances,” says Under-23s manager Matt Gill. “He works really hard during sessions and he took that into games, and he’s a lovely lad to work with. He’s hungry to learn and get even better and that’s the type of character we want here.

“He’s very hard working for the team, quick, strong and a really unselfish striker. He chases lost causes and puts defenders under pressure.”

I don't think we can get a 20 goal a season player anyway. What we could get is somebody who can hold the ball and be a handful for defenders up front. That is what Ollie was looking for in the summer. We have runners galore but without Hanson we have nobody with real presence up there to take the weight and help to make space. I hate to say this but we need someone like Shop who may be a useless finisher but leads the line. Then we might see better crosses and the ball going in the net from inside 6 yards instead of hoping for another Vernam style individual cracker from someone.
