Why are we the only game postponed because of 'Covid'?

All other teams are playing on, so what the hell is going on with GTFC?

Answers on a postcard please before the end of the season!

“Following medical advice received from the EFL, our own medical team and in line with current Government guidelines, members of our first team playing and management staff continue to self-isolate due to a recent positive COVID-19 test being identified within the squad.

“As a result, our Sky Bet League Two fixture at home to Bradford City, scheduled for Saturday 3rd October has now been postponed.

“With the required period of self-isolation continuing into the middle of next week, our EFL Trophy fixture away at Hull City, scheduled for Tuesday 6th October has also had to be postponed."

Still doesn't explain why Liverpool, with 2 first teamers positive , can carry on playing.

Draw what conclusions you will but the postponements do rather suit us at the moment, injuries, more players not matchfit than enough, players who haven't even met etc etc

You are comparing apples with oranges. The EPL test staff regularly, clubs at our level can't afford to.

The PL have a different set of protocols, one of which is regular testing throughout the club structure.
Therefore if the club adheres to the protocol a player can self isolate away from the club & matches can continue.

What happens if a Premier League player tests positive?

Players or club staff who have tested positive for coronavirus will self-isolate and quarantine for a period of 10 days.

“If a player tests positive, it’s only him and his family who need to isolate, not anybody else,” confirmed the Premier League’s medical advisor, Dr Mark Gillett.

Covid-19 testing protocol lies in accordance with UK government guidelines.

Similarly, if players or staff members show symptoms of Covid-19 but test negative, they will still need to self-isolate.

My understanding is that the EFL are looking into the matter of the 3 postponements and the club is expecting a possible fine.

If we end up getting fined them that made the decision to cancel games should pay it out there own pocket and not the club

Surely the club contacted the EFL for guidance/advice and that information received was clear and concise as to what the correct procedures where to follow. Now if the club had acted unilaterally and either not contacted the EFL or ignored their instructions then I can see a fine might be expected, but if they have followed all the rules correctly then there should be no fine. There again if the EFL couldn’t run a urine up in a brewery, then I fully expect a fine.

If that’s the case, I don’t see how the club could have unilaterally postponed three matches. Surely if the EFL felt that contravened their protocols they could have simply insisted that players were tested and that games went ahead.

That said, I have to admit I don’t really understand why we are the only club postponing games over positive tests.

The crux of the matter is the 'incubation period' advice that we received that doesn't seem to have been applicable in any other situation, at least according to the authorities.

In theory we should have been able to test our squad last Friday and isolated those who tested positive, allowing the Cheltenham game to go ahead.  That's exactly what Stevenage did to be able to play Bradford and they were able to do that without issue.  Their players tested positive within the 5 day incubation period, which is where the conflict lies.

Sadio Mane would definitely have had contact with other first team players in the 5 days before his positive test, but the incubation theory again doesn't seem to apply to them.

Either Day is lying and is exploiting the situation, or the EFL has confused their own protocol.  I don't think we can really blame anybody until the facts are established.

Deja vu all over again with Oxford fans asking why , if true, a tested player travelled instead of isolating and how a second player who felt unwell on the bus was mixing with the squad around Oxford yesterday.
All, or none, of the speculation may be true but EFL have put out a carefully worded statement.

https://twitter.com/EFL_Comms/.....sforum.co.uk%2Fthrea

No mention of an investigation and quick to refer to a rescheduling of the fixture.

The Oxford v Crewe situation just demonstrates that the EFL has clearly not got correct and enforceable protocols in place.

Re post above if Town are in that much financial trouble would we have just signed another loan player? Football clubs are not the most financially savvy organisations but surely town, who are known for their miserly approach, would not be incurring further financial commitments if they could not meet them.

Listened to Day, I’m not really convinced by it and it suggested to me that they know exactly what was wrong.

Worrying that we are pleading ignorance. I expect somewhere along the way someone at the club has dropped a huge bollock.

Or is it because we didn’t want to pay to have all the players tested?

So we come back next Wednesday to play Bolton on Saturday, how on earth are we going to compete, we already looked unfit.

I just hope Holloway learns quickly how to manage in the Conference, we've got the non-league strikers already so we should be OK next season

It allows me to say I told you so if I'm right and for you and every other fornicator to have a go if I'm wrong

Seriously I don't have the blind belief in Holloway that so many on here have. He talks a good game, he's good publicity, he's eccentric and he may have a dream about GTFC but I don't see the squad he has put together doing anything other than struggling in the bottom 3 or 4 and I am seriously concerned that we could well be one of the bottom two come May if the season goes on that long. Hopefully Holloway might stick with it and won't walk away and his team might be Conference challenging material

Just a guess but I think the EFL are potentially investigating Jock Curran being allowed to train with us whilst out on loan.

Normally wouldn't be an issue and is common practice but maybe under new Coronavirus rules this is not allowed? As you could argue he is switching between 2 different bubbles on an almost daily basis.

Artell says EFL told him neither club would face any action if the game was postponed. Crewe knew at 7.40 a.m. that a player on the bus had tested positive but failed to tell Oxford. Simply rocked up at the ground wanting to play.

So the Crewe player who tested positive for Covid 19, and another play with symptoms where on the team bus. Surely everyone on that bus must now isolate for 14 days?  So they should have there next two called called off?

Can someone please explain if I have got it wrong!

Everyone wants to be a comedian.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you give him an excuse for him to escape from the wife and kids for the weekend and drink lots of beer.
