Blue Story
8/10

There is nothing particularly new about this film as the story is a path well-trodden but, it’s done so well and I think it’s an excellent film. I too liked the use of the rapper to move along the narrative and I thought it was a nice touch.
I rate the series Topboy really highly and this film could easily be another chapter of it.

Yes seen Top boy Sandford and really like it. Ive been a London boy as well all my life so I could identify with the characters in the series . Having said that I don't like drugs and never have done and also feel for genuine metropolitan police officers  ( a gripe with the show though is wish they could put a more positive slant on police and not just be bothered about ratings). Especially have a lot of respect and admiration for genuine black police officers who are trying to do a honest job in the metropolitan police in what can be very trying circumstances . Not all black people like white people who come from very disadvantaged backgrounds are against the police in London. I remember being stopped and searched by a black policeman and he was genuinely good in the way he spoke to me. In order for relations to improve between police and public I feel we need more police who have a desire to do good and as one or two have said previously it goes beyond the money but a deep desire to help the community and others.

Top Gun: Maverick
8.5/10

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.

Firstly I’m unashamedly owning the high mark I have given this film. I really, really enjoyed it and I’m not apologising for it (though I feel I perhaps should😊).
This is a love letter to the first film and more widely the 80’s, there’s the intoxicating mix of new and old, nostalgia aplenty and a soundtrack to match. Is it cheesy and sentimental? Yes! Is it cliched and linked to the first? Yup! Is it entertaining? Absolutely! I had to be careful not take my fingers off off while chomping on the popcorn staring at the screen.

Got to agree. Was pleasantly surprised. Had my eye on a two hour nap but really enjoyed it!

Explorer
8/10

A portrait of the "world's greatest living explorer" Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a film that goes beyond the record breaking achievements to explore the man behind the myth.

I absolutely loved this and would recommend watching this to anyone who has even the slightest interest in the man. Often touching and insightful it gives a view of the man behind the legend. Privileged, fiercely driven, contradictory, pragmatic, loving, loyal and eccentric can all be justifiably used to describe Ran Fiennes.

2 quotes sum it up for me “in the context of the modern world he’s not normal!” And
“he’s absolutely fearless-brave but he’s a bloody idiot!”. member on!

A Starter for 10
7.5/10

In 1985, against the backdrop of Thatcherism, Brian Jackson enrolls in the University of Bristol, a scholarship boy from seaside Essex with a love of knowledge for its own sake and a childhood spent watching "University Challenge," a college quiz show. At Bristol he tries out for the Challenge team and falls under the spell of Alice, a lovely blond with an extensive sexual past. He's smitten, and he carelessly manages to hurt the feelings of Rebecca Epstein, a friend whose politics and wit he admires. The Challenge finale is coming up; maybe Brian can redeem himself and still avoid being a prat.

Is this the greatest film you’re ever likely to see? Absolutely not but it’s very entertaining nonetheless and I’m glad I gave it my time. I really like James McAvoy and he’s backed up by a great assemble cast in this film and overall I enjoyed it.

A really wholesome family movie from the 80s and I’m with you Rick, it’s a really good watch.

I was a film nerd even as a kid and would Hoover up anything I could get my hands on. Back then of course it was the magic of the video shop and it was magic too.

Saturday was wrestling at my Nanas (not wrestling her-she’d have kicked my backside) then tea time it was Airwolf, The A-team and Knight Rider (amongst others) along with the classified results on the radio.

I remember waiting for my dad to finish work to sit and watch/ listen to it all with me and then our trip ‘round the corner’ to the video shop. We’d spend ages in there while I picked up every case to read the blurb. I was like a kid in a sweet shop and although times move on, I miss that process and tradition.

When I was younger it was sixhills video store and the one on Farebrother Street and they both had that mystique to them. I’m smiling to myself as I write this as I recall the fines for not rewinding the cassettes or waiting for what seemed like years to get a copy of Masters of the Universe.
Happy Days!

Funnily enough I love the A team and Knight Rider(love that theme tune and introduction at the start) and will now and again watch a rerun.

How times have changed though . Now its all mostly online streaming. I can understand though what your saying about nostalgia. I can relate to that as well. I remember being at primary school and there was some really happy times there .I think its the innocence of childhood before the reality of life kicks in later on.

Got to say I love the new technology though especially Netflix.
