Greasy chip butty song

There is a story on bbc news/ sport website, sorry i can't post a link, looking into the origins of the " Sheffield United anthem" greasy chip butty.
They say they have been singing it from the early 80s.  We have been singing itfrom the mid 70s haven't we?

It’s definitely their song, we stole it.

Well given its based on John Denver's Annie's Song..certainly around from 1974 onwards....

"Modified versions of the song are also sung by supporters of Burton Albion (where the references to Magnet and Woodbines are replaced with Marston's Pedigree ("Peddi") and Walkers), Grimsby Town (where Magnet is replaced by Tetley's) and St Helens R.F.C. (where the beer is Greenalls and a kebab replaces cigarettes)"

we need some more songs, the last one I liked was about Podge..

need to be more original....no more we are Town or Fish, Fish, Fish

bit more of a tune and 3 lines wouldnt go a miss

Do you know any Hitler Youth tunes we can change the words to?

Danny Danny Rose .... To the tune of Daddy Cool by Boney M . Spurs sang it for the other one  

The official song of the Hitler Youth was "Es zittern die morschen Knochen" which translates as "The Rotten Bones Are Trembling".

The original song's refrain (1932) was "Denn heute gehört uns Deutschland / und morgen die ganze Welt" ("For today, Germany is ours / and tomorrow the whole world"). In a later version (1937) this was mitigated for the Hitler Youth to "Denn heute da hört uns Deutschland..." ("For today, Germany hears us...").

Maybe we could steal it...

"This season, League 2 hears us / and following seasons the whole EFL"

The PA song which was an non original ??
Fish is a classic & is far better than the regurgitated garbage which are based on other club chants.

I’m always up for a tune and 3 lines but my heart usually starts racing after 2 too close together

Annie's Song which is the tune the chant is sung to was released in 1974.
The Sheffield Utd  song was penned in 1984/85 according to the article.

During my research, I found claims online about the song having first been heard during an away game against Stoke City on the opening day of the 1985-86 season.

However, in Matthew Bell's book, Blades Tales: A Collection of Memories, Stories and Anecdotes of Supporting Sheffield United, fan Darren Reid recalls first hearing the song even earlier than that, on an away trip to Southend United in 1984.


Supertown states it was sung by GT in 1980 which would make it the original (Which I don't think it was)

I don't think any other clubs have 'a night out in Nunsthorpe' either

I like the Fish, but it is based on Tottenham's chant that were doing their Jewish version a LONG time before we stole it.

i think every player should have a song, I also think we should adopt a classic that we can develop as our own..

im not for Delilah as it is at Stoke, but I remember a really big group sing a long of You've Lost that Lovin Feeling at Blackpool as we were heading out of the FA Cup...
