Because scoring even double figures in FL2 is a bit different from knocking them in for fun at Folkestone Invicta and halesowen. They aren't going to top the Div4 swcoring charts any time soon (if at all) What are we risking? Well not cash obviously, we don't pay anyone much of a wage (in fact Holloway might have smooth talked the two non league lads into paying us for letting them sign!) but they will be taking up two of the strikers slots on which we will be relying so much. Hanson can't do it all on his own.
Thought we had a salary cap not a numbers cap And surely signing players with a history of injury is just as big a risk I’m not disagreeing with your arguments about their potential to fail just the terminology ‘huge risk’ which seems a bit dramatic and carries with it implied criticism Still I guess if they fail you can say I told you so and if they succeed no one will are what you said

Why not? Jamie Vardy - Fleetwood? Lee Gregory - Halifax?
Take your point re: risk and step up in class but there are lots of examples where it has worked I think under Ollie (a man who has bags of experience, done great things with Blackpool, polished many rough diamonds) they stand a great chance of making the grade Liam Hearn: think I am correct in saying he took 10/11 matches before his first goal? And then he was off... and if not for injuries I am convinced he'd have been L1 minimum
Williams is the safest bet for being a success cos he obvs has experience and a touch of class at this level; his injuries are a concern, but he is the type of player we need
I have always felt that a goal scorer is a natural 'animal' - you can't teach someone to have an eye for goal... it's instinct (Podge?) This is why we need a couple of creatives in midfield who can supply the ammunition...and then players like Gibson and Jackson will score bagfuls! Williams, Tilley, Benson (come on Ollie - you know more than you are saying!) UTM!

there's a few others that made it from non league, and of course there are some that just didn't quite make the step up. Michail Antonio was at Tooting & Mitching Chris Smalling was at Maidstone Callum Wilson was at Kettering Danny Ings was at Dorchester Jermaine Beckford was at Wealdstone

The higher the % coming up from non league into L2 & L1, more might make into the Championship and Premiership.

it is a risk, but i think any side with hanson in it is going to score/create chances. bloke won more headers than anyone in the league by a country mile and was out for 2 months

Hanson was even winning headers that he had no right to win, teams regularly doubling or even tripling up on him and he still won the ball more times than not.

Sorry but Hanson was often marked out of the game by fair means or foul, when doubled up on he had games where he won virtually nothing in the air or at his feet and his first touch was no better than most decent strikers. Good player but not a world beater.

If he was a world beater he would not be at BP! It looked to me that the problem was more with the other players not taking advantage of Hanson being double marked. Holloway changed that quite a bit and we saw more of Vernam as a result.

Agreed. When teams started to double up on Hanson we needed The other players to take more advantage.
