With the news today that GTFC failed in its attempt to sign a player, with him opting to sign North of the border, might this be a sign that now Ollie is trying (but failing this time) to rebuild his team, that we will hear both good and bad news in his attempts to sign players?

When was the last time anyone can remember a news story getting out of a failed attempt to sign a new player?

Before we know it, the board will be releasing details of what would usually be an 'undisclosed sum' and a new era of clarity

As a fan, i like it.

But if i was a player under contract, would i be happy that it's out in public that the club is trying to sign players in the position you play?

When we have about 10 players and only 2 strikers on the books I think it's obvious to everyone that the only position we don't require signings for is between the sticks.

There is a time and a place to make statements like this. I would be uncomfortable if these comments were being made a week before the season or in January.

Its been done before, usually comes out when a manager is under pressure to try and bluff their way through a tough time as if to say " i have tried to do my job but its not my fault my targetted players just wont come to Grimsby".

I dont mind some "leaks" coming out but remember the Hurst (?) ongoing attempts and his eventual signing of striker target No. 22  i think it got to ? Has the reverse effect on supporters then.
