I think there will be an unrepresented number of players released at the end of June. Not because the clubs don't want them but because they can sign as good if not better players for less wages. There will be I am afraid a lot of footballers looking for new clubs, but the clubs will not have the money to sign them!
Think a salary cap is needed, if only for a year or two. But can current footballers with there current commitments afford to take a pay cut?
THIS WILL CHANGE FOOTBALL AS WE KNOW IT.

Think it will be curtains for Whitehouse then , as a lengthy ban will mean a poor return / value for money. Will probably be the same for some of our more injury prone players.

Nouble would be handy and has Comley been on loan at Town before or am I confusing him with the other 500?

He has only scored about 5 goals all season in about 35 games, mind you they were mostly against Town. Is he any better than Hanson?

He plays wide left not as a main striker and has always impressed me against town but don’t see him as a replacement for Chas. Re Comley, rated him when on loan at BP from QPR and recall he plated against us for Colchester either earlier this season or last. Maybe of interest as he was at QPR when Holloway was manager and think it was actually IH who loaned him to town.

Thankfully a salary cap has already been agreed for the lower leagues, and about time too. A certain team with no fewer than 6 multi millionaires and one billionaire as their owners make it a very uneven playing field for all the other teams struggling week in week out. But now the salary cap has been set at £2 million per season, THAT team will probably have to lose several of its bigger earners.
In Towns situation it will be interesting what line Ollie goes down to cut the wages. Will he let those who are injury prone go first? Or will he be looking at the biggest earners to ease the pockets? Sadly there are a few of the players who have turned Towns season upside down that Ollie signed in January who are amongst the higher earners who we could potentially lose.
But with hundreds of good players being released, will he sacrifice others that he would have liked to have given a contract to, so he can sign a few of the free agents?
Considering the number of players who allegedly contacted Ollie offering their services in January, it would be interesting to see how many more offer their services to Ollie this time around.
Of course all that is just blather IF Town dont need to chop and change. Its well known that Fenty was always a spendthrift but for all his faults he captained a steady ship and kept us monetarily on an even keel.

Comley was absolute crap when he played for us Weak in the tackle, arms flapping like a bird and even wears gloves when it's below 80. It's OK having a small player but you've got to have a bit of skill and strength - let Hurst sign him-not us. Comley or Brody - what a hard decision

Well Sir Golfer, I beg to differ, and he has now three more seasons experience under his belt at L2 level, but it’s about opinions and ours differ. Would add that I was not suggesting we actually sign him but if he did have qualities IH will be fully versed in them and if he’s worth a place in our squad.

Some Colchester fans reckon their top earners are on 4 grand a week! Out of our price range that's for sure. Might explain why they are letting them go.

This is from the Daily Fail and if true, it sheds some light on what clubs spend on players and staff, which goes some way to explaining why a lot of teams are now in the sh1te. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sp.....EFL-clubs-brink.html
I suspect it is true, there's a lot of detail in it for a made up story. On another point, I don't read the Daily Mail and have almost no exposure to it so that article's tone was quite a surprise: it's judgemental, condescending and clearly steers the reader towards what the Daily Mail thinks is right or wrong. It's no surprise that the stereotypical Daily Mail reader is so full of bile and ready to jump to conclusions if that's the type of sh*t they're sucking up every day.

Surely every newspaper drives the reader towards their preferred viewpoint? The key is to read a range of papers otherwise if you only read the Guardian you would believe the Tories are evil scum trying to kill anyone who isn't on the Forbes rich list or if you read the Mirror that Labour is relevant.

Not wanting to turn this into a political debate, but over 10 million voters would argue that Labour are still relevant. Back to the players, a couple of times I've seen Nouble he has looked unplayable - yet remains at this level. I think that probably answers the question regards him.

What players do we have contracted next season?
I’m guessing it will be them and youth players next season.

“Stadium managers also do well, with one at a southern Championship side taking £89,565. The same role at one northern-based League Two club pays just £2,000.“ I wonder who the northern club mentioned is. It might explain a lot

Why do some people automatically think that if you are out of contract they will certainly leave? Yes tough times for clubs obviously but wouldn't players have to lower their wage demands otherwise they could find themselves not having a club at all if no club can afford to take them on?

True, but to maintain an affordable approach virtually clubs need to maintain their discipline and their nerve. It only takes one club with ambitious owners and deep pockets to break ranks, offer unaffordable wages and then others will start to crack.

Interesting that Colchester will release 16 players including their Under 23 squad and U23 coach Jamal Campbell Ryce. Some of the released were in and around the first team squad.

Looking at the state of BP it's probably ours and he/she was paid for performance.
