He was absolute class. I've been watching Town since the mid-80's. If I was picking a best XI for that period he would be very, very close to being first name on the team sheet.

Would ultimately have to settle for a place on the bench behind a midfield duo of Leary and Cummins but still....

Without a doubt a legend and one of my all time favourites. Sometimes he would flatter to deceive and questions would be asked, but on the very few times he wasn’t in the team you immediately pined for him. Colossal.

I’ve got a good friend who is a West Brom fan similar age to me, and you simply cannot believe how low an opinion Baggies fans have of Grovesy, it actually shocks me. Supposedly Buckley played him at centre back there!!!

However, when I tell him about OUR opinion of Paul Raven, he is similarly perplexed!
