Head of steam building up for the season to be ended now in Division Two. All clubs reportedly discussing the matter today by video call. Fear that money will run out otherwise.

With clubs at all levels struggling we may even end up in Division One when football starts again !!!!!

Can't help imagining what a lockdown video call with JF at home might look like. Will he take it in the games room so he can sit astride his snooker table? or perhaps in the sitting room with that picture of a bare bottom in the background?

Must be true if it's in the Sun.

So long as the top 4 go up and bottom one goes down that's fine by me. Too much uncertainty all round.
At least Ollie will be able to start his rebuilding for next season if we close this one down

Makes sense IMO and won't it result in our highest FL finish for some years?

Any solvent or well off clubs (if such a thing exists in League 2) could be at a massive advantage in terms of squad building for next season. Going to be a lot of out of contract and very anxious footballers eager to agree deals as soon as anybody is willing to make a half-decent offer and a lot of clubs who will just have to minimise outgoings as much as possible for as long as possible.

Guess the clubs could effectively shut down till the new season starts and not have to pay out as much in wages and operating costs.

Just can’t see where the clubs will be saving money on anything that they’re not already paying.
To me, it’s just the press, with NO PROPER STORY, making something up to keep people talking.

Think they can close down now and start preparing for next season, knowing which league they are in

They can let players go on June 30 with no extra cost
They can recruit for next season.

Makes sense unless you are Stevenage or Cheltenham.

But aren’t they pretty much closed down now. Understand about letting players go on June 30 BUT that’s still the same expense as is happening now. So no money is really being saved NOW. Most clubs know where they’ll be playing next season in our league anyway. Why have an incomplete season, why not wait and see how things are going.

Because if it did start up again there is no chance that it would be completed by 30th June so some sort of contract extensions will need to be put in place and if the games are to be played behind closed doors (as is most likely) these matches will generate no revenue (aside from iFollow match tickets I suppose which will not amount to much at all).

Wouldn't most town fans watch on ifollow to support their club.  While you couldn't charge the full whack of a ticket you don't have to pay for the police, St John's ambulance, stewards etc.  Surely, it's better to have some money coming in than nothing. I guess at the moment, it's still not safe enough.

Been doing a lot of work around furlough in the last month and there is a danger that if the season ends now any clubs that have furloughed players and staff won't get the financial support until the scheme ends just before many playing contracts finish on June 30th.

The HMRC seem to be adopting different rules for different industries and business models in the last couple of weeks and their judgement of the situation could influence a decision.

Either way a league finish above the Scunts and Stevenage relegated would work for me!!!

Haven't read the full thing but would the play off's be decided on Fifa or is it just frozen relegation & promotion?  .

Thank God it's not just me! This makes no sense commercially. Most players are contracted to June 30th (if their contract runs out this season) and they can only be released by mutual consent or by the club going into administration. Therefore clubs have to pay them until their contract's up, deciding to forego 5 home games or so and the revenue associated seems utterly counter productive. And there is a growing feeling that when football does start again there will be bumper crowds for the first few games.
You'd also have the minefield of what do you do about promotion and relegation.

So like I said, NO money is going to be saved NOW.
So whether it’s decided NOW or in a months time when a better idea of what the situation is NO money is going to be saved before 30 June.

They have already said that STHs will be able to watch any games behind closed doors for nothing, which will account for a large number, if not a majority, of those that watch, so little revenue there. Other matchday revenue streams simply won't be there. There will be big costs especially for games played after 30th June with the contact extensions that will be necessary and little revenue coming in.

But STHs don't pay anyway - or they've already paid .  If the season ends now they would have to give them some kind of discount anyway. So the STHs are not the people you need to attract for ifollow. It's either that or finish the season now.  No great shakes for us but other clubs will kick up a stink.  Who gets in the play - offs.  Do they even have play-offs?  Is the season null and void? Quite a lot of trouble this bit of RNA has caused.

Think I heard somewhere that when the season becomes null and void, that all statistics like goal scored will be wiped off the slate but, bookings hence suspensions will be as normal.

Are we sure Stevenage would be relegated if the season finished now? Firstly, it would mean 2 clubs coming up from the conference. And since you won't be able to hold the play offs I guess the league would either just promote Barrow or nobody at all.

There would be too many implications if the season was ended now. If say Stevenage were relegated they could claim that they could have won the rest of there games and got out of the bottom place, or that Macclesfield would or could have had more points deducted. What about playoffs! I think a few clubs would have there legal team involved. The only way to not complete the season is to void the whole season and wipe the records as if it never happened. Personally I do not want the latter, but it seems to be the most likely.

The season really is finished for The National League:

Don't get the point of this. Is it supposed to be funny? Adds nothing to the debate and the likelihood is JF wouldn't be the one taking part in the video call.

Oh yes, it is supposed to be funny, as others have found. I fully appreciate that a single line won't appeal to everyone's sense of humour but I guess you are not into fun stuff. Do yourself a favour and don't take yourself too seriously fella.

I think the season will be voided for what its worth. I you are not allowed to get in your car at 5am with fishing gear, toddle off to your own fishing pond / lake , have a fw hours sat watching the wild life , and come back home , there is no chance of a contact sport being alowed to go ahead
