As we move into the penultimate month of the 71-72 season Town found themselves in second place one point behind leaders Scunthorpe having played a game more. Brentford were in third place having played a game more than Town and two more than Scunthorpe. Following three super home attendances of 10/13 and 16000 plus, Town's average home attendance for all games was 11068. Sir Matt still led the scoring charts having netted 23 times followed by Stuart Brace on 18. In the month of April Town had 3 home and 4 away games. I particularly remember the Stockport away game as the following day myself and three mates had trials at Blundell Park and About Anglia TV were interviewing Lawrie McMenemy, in the film we can be seen playing head tennis in the background until a mistimed volley knocked over the camera, (Lawrie seemed to find in funny) ! This is how the month unfolded.

I'm fairly sure that the game against Cambridge was shown on Anglia on the Sunday afternoon the next day. It was Easter weekend, I seem to remember. Loads of Town fans steamed onto the pitch at the end, including me, and I spotted myself running across the pitch the following day, a scarf tied to each wrist like an absolute plank.

Ian Turner's debut, and he must have wondered what had happened as Posh led 2-0, only for Town to storm back to win 3-2.

No attempt at ethical or social seduction can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred of the Tory party. So far as I'm concerned they're lower than vermin. Aneurin Bevan.
