Seems reputable now from the sources below that Dennis is on his way to Blundell Park.

Hopefully recapture his former performances, hope so as his relegation record is rather eye-watering!

Definitely in talks with us,but how many forwards do we talk to but fail to get them to sign up.
Would be a good signing but other teams will be interested surely, even tho he has lost his way a bit of late

If you score 20+ goals in a relegation team, you've got something about you.

Reminds me about like Amond, doesn't do a huge amount, but always scores goals

Never rated him, think he's always been a bit lazy whenever I've seen him so hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

That's always been my perception of him. If he only touches it once every two games but that touch is a goal then he'll do for me.

A loan is ideal then. Suits the needs of both parties.

Not sure about this. Our issue isn't finishing, it's creating chances. And he doesn't seem to do anything in games other than score from what I've seen. Which is great if you're creating chances but we aren't. We've got a player in Thomas who has proven he can score if chances present themselves and I don't think adding Dennis will mean we suddenly start creating more.

He's scored 6 goals this season (3 in one Checkatrade game). That would still make him second highest scorer in our team.

Isn’t that the problem in that our other frontmen have had the chances but not put them away. Nothing against anyone but we cannot just rely on one person up front being able to take the chances when they come.It has been a problem in that we keep getting a red card meaning that we have to put a single person upfront.

I fail to see the point in getting a loan signing. 16 games left. If we average 2 points a game (promotion form) that puts us on 69 points, probably not enough for a play off spot based on previous seasons. If we average 1 point per game (relegation form) that puts us on 53 points, enough not to go down. We need to be playing those that will be here next season.

just a bit of a left field thought. he couldn't be getting dennis in as a potential replacement for Thomas (apparently thomas is a southern bod and has all his family down this way)?

I'd love to see Dennis in a Town shirt. He's a proven goalscorer at this level.
Yes, creating chances is a problem, but I've not read anywhere that signing Dennis means we can't bring in anyone else!

I’d argue it’s both!

Don’t really see any bad in this if true. He’s a very good goal scorer at this level, and we’re not commiting with a loan.

If anything happened to Wes, we’d be screwed up top.

Maybe we are looking at him for next season? If County go down, I'm guessing they'll want to be getting rid? He's 28 and Wes Thomas is 32. Thomas isn't a long term solution (as much as I like him as a player).

My gut feeling is Thomas won't be here next season. The year contract here was most likely personally to keep himself in the shop window in the hope of a club signing him closer to home next season..

Dennis is probably a decent punt to see if he can re-ignite his career in a loan spell with a view to making him an offer in the summer if it was successful. Proven goalscoer, just depends whether he's still got it in him at League Two level..

If he's that good I don't understand why a team fighting to avoid relegation out of the FL is letting him go out on loan

Very interesting and suprising signing to me, shows I was talking out my bottom when i said i doubt we’d sign anyone likely to be expensive on loan

Like others have said if thomas got injured who could step up and i don’t think theres any other proven league 2 goalscorer we’d be able to get our hands on. Strange one maybe for this season but if theres anything in it that means we get first dibs for next season then its great and i’d be very excited by that. Never mind what clubs he’s been at have done, we all wanted a goalscorer and we all trust jolley has a plan, so nice one town 👍

NottinghamshireLive....

"With Notts having signed Craig Mackail-Smith on loan from Wycombe, boss Neal Ardley is revamping his attack as he looks to try to save the club from relegation to the National League.

Dennis could make way as part of those plans especially if the club follows through with its move to sign Nottingham Forest striker Virgil Gomis on loan."

Is this a different Amond from the one who led our line in a way that we've not seen probably since Tony Rees?  Amond's goals for us are always going to be what stands out but his all-round play was excellent.

Not to mention, sometimes it doesn’t work out for a player at a specific club and it doesn’t mean anything against the players ability, especially when its a club thats clearly as deeply troubled as notts county. Would you have trusted their management this season to get what weve had out of any of our best players? Me neither, and im sure Dennis will be looking to prove that point

Could be an interesting signing.  Not reading too much into his strike-rate this season as County are just awful full stop. Arguably the worst side we've played since coming back into the league and even back in non-league, I can't remember any sides showing such a lack of fight and desire.

He definitely likes to get up and in peoples faces, he got Zak Mills sent off at Chesterfield on the opening day last season just by being a bit of a helmet really.  A lot of comments in recent weeks about how we're too nice, perhaps what we need but then not to the extreme of someone like Matt Rhead.

Right, Almond was not exactly tearing up trees at his previous club when we signed him. Mind you he might have scored even more for us if the manager hadn’t kept trying to turn him and Bogle into centre backs.

Dennis might turn out to be just an alternative up front or he might be a key player, who knows?

And pen put to paper...if Dennis can regain his potency really excited to see how him and Wes combine as a front 2...gotta feel for Cook again though, probably pushes him down the pecking order again...😯

A proven goalscorer at this level - can't really complain about that. Obviously this season hasn't gone well, but hopefully a fresh start away from Notts can get him up and running again 👍

No hint that it will lead to anything permanent. Seems it really is just a loan to the end of the season. Curious to know whether MJ has been after him for a while or whether the opportunity to sign a proven goalscorer for a few months just came up and he couldn't turn it down.

Either way I'm very pleased with this signing. Welcome Kristian!

Gary Caldwell described Dennis as "first and foremost a team player... in terms of his workrate, running after lost causes, shutting people down and working for the team".

Only 28 and a ton of goals too, watch out playoffs here we come, UTM

the big sticking point will be his wages. am sure he was very well paid at chesterfield (and presumably County), and can't believe he'd take a cut right down to a Fenty approved level

If it’s a loan though, we may only be paying part.
Strong source told me Pringles total wage was in excess of 6k a week !!!

The wife was going away for a girly weekend.
I jokingly remarked  'I don't know whether to spend it watching porn or watching football'
'you may as well spend it watching porn' she replied
That's understanding darling what makes you say that? I asked

She said 'Well you already know how to play football'

He is a Championship player so not surprised. JF on record saying he was on high wage but obviously we were only contributing a small percentage towards that.

The clamour for signings can never be satisfied. The rumour mill is of course interesting if at times a little tedious. It is difficult at times to balance common sense, with our hopes and expectations especially when we know little of the realities.

MJ has had some players put on 2/3 year contracts, he appears to clearly be looking a little longer term.
Some signed on 1 year contracts could have been for many different reasons - a need to prove themselves, a misses who wanted to see if she wanted to move to the area ( clearly Fox’s wife preferred the States to Cleethorpes, for whatever reason, good or bad ), because of our doubts to see if a player would  blend in with the squad - a loan period is exactly the correct route. It is even possible that a player has not been waiting their entire life to sign for The Mighty Mariners and      themselves want to ‘try before they buy’. The potential scenarios are limitless.

Whatever the reasons we have signed permanently or on loan, whatever the reason we have let go permanently or on loan, I think  MJ has done good business this window - one potential legend and 3 that give cause for optimism plus Hendrie ! Quality over quantity.

This season we can dream, next season I expect (cautiously). In M.J. I trust.
I am also aware if all goes as well as we would all hope the vultures will quickly gather. I noticed recently for what ever the job was, M.J. was the 20/1 outsider - he is already on the radar.

I fail to see the point in getting a loan signing. 16 games left. If we average 2 points a game (promotion form) that puts us on 69 points, probably not enough for a play off spot based on previous seasons. If we average 1 point per game (relegation form) that puts us on 53 points, enough not to go down. We need to be playing those that will be here next season.

a) we could still go up or down with a good or bad run
b) strikers are hard enough to come back I doubt we have been fighting off 20 goals a season scorers who want 2.5 year deals

I'd rather get someone here and let them see what we have. Grimsby is a traditional club, a special club, the fans are more passionate than at most sides, but you might not realise that straight away. Get them in the door and they might like the look of it, get some hero worship, see the local property prices, the nice areas to live, and you never know they might want to keep the black and white shirt for a bit.

I would imagine we could sign him on a permanent deal,

IF  Notts go down and if he enjoys his stay here.

Bound to be a big comedown on his wage for  Family Fortunes as well.

The response of the other club's fans is always a good barometer of what a player is like. County fans appear furious.

It's fair to say that with some other signings, many of them warned us if we'd signed a dud...

We wanted a proven goalscorer with experience of the league and we've got one, so a good bit of business. Anyone who can score 21 goals in a season for a poor Chesterfield side last year has got to be a good signing. I wouldn't worry too much about his lack of goals to date this season, as Notts are the worst team i've seen since we got back in the league.

This is one of those signings that will have us laughing our socks off that we got a player with his ability, or an absolute waste of wages-dont think there will be any inbetween about him. On paper he looks great, lets hope he is on the grass as well.

If you score 20+ goals in a relegation team, you've got something about you.

Reminds me about like Amond, doesn't do a huge amount, but always scores goals

Or Super Clive. He bagged loads for us when we went down, signed for mid-table Charlton and shot them to promotion the following season.

Through the door there came familiar laughter,
I saw your face and heard you call my name.
Oh my friend we're older but no wiser,

So far so good. At least now the other players know that if they get the ball into the right areas there is a fair chance of a goal from it. I know all about the difficulty of the past few games, playing good teams and all that but the fact remains we have been firing blanks ...... as it were.   With luck we can wave bye bye to that problem for a while.

I think he could be a good signing who should not take too long to settle. Why is it a loan though? Is that down to County, the player or us? When is his contract up?

Three year contract at Notts so guessing they wouldn't let him go for free and we want to try before we buy sort of thing.

I assume he's using this as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window again, as he's got a lot to prove this season, albeit in a very poor County side. So I find it a strange signing, especially on loan, as if he scores a bagful he's unlikely to be here next season, and very unlikely we're good enough to make the play-off's either. I can only imagine longer term targets have failed to commit, but good luck to him,  as he's a proven goal-scorer, however he's not one who carves out his own chances, so he'll need better service than we've provided lately.

A perfect example Jamille Matt, doing very well at Newport, Hopefully not to well this Saturday.

Apparently Notts paid £150k for him in May. He had a great strike rate last season in a truly awful side.

If we can play to his strengths then he will score.

Could be a great partnership with Thomas. I think this is a good move for us.

If we're being brutally honest, on deadline day this is probably better than most of us expected.

At least we've -  a) heard of him, and b) know that he CAN find the net

Good luck to him, whatever happens after May

Remember at the start of the season and debating over strikers. Definitely think Dennis would suit our play over Notts. Could be an amazing partner for Thomas are they both left footers?

Imagine someone telling you in December that we’d be swapping JJ Hooper for Kristian Dennis in the squad, you would’ve never believed it.

Great signing and more movement in the right direction. Will give defenders more than Thomas to think about and not afraid to have a dig in & around the box.

He might have a relegation clause in his contract to leave end of the season hopefully.

Really positive signing imo. Cannot work out why anybody would not be happy with it.

We've been calling for a finisher all season long. And now we have one.

Over 100 goals in around 260 appearances supports that. Yeh maybe half those games were non league but he got 21 goals last season for a urine poor L2 side. Notts paid around £150K for him last summer. You couldnt imagine Town being in the market for such a player in recent times. An earlier poster described him as lazy. From what I can remember of his past appearances at BP he has been a handful at times and certainly a player you were wary of the danger he posed.

Yes ok some will say if we dont create enough chances so we still wont score but having a proven goalscorer improves that conversion rate.

We are a bit thin up front. Thomas has done pretty well but with Dennis on board it will take a bit of the burden off him. Vernam is a good footballer but isnt going to get much into double figures, Ahkeem is still raw and unproven and as much as I like Cardwells effort I am yet to be convinced he can develop into a taker of chances.

Maybe we could do with another attacking option as well but time looks to be running out.

Remember him scoring with a cracking shot at BP, so he doesn't need chances created for him all the time.

I can see not only Dennis scoring a few goals,

BUT

Thomas getting a few more as well.

Good times are a coming.

It's not a signing I expected 24 hours ago; almost as left field as Brodie back in 2013 (though hopefully this one has a happier ending). I recall some chatter about Dennis back in the summer and I was against signing him at the time as he was always going to command a six figure fee and big wages. That didn't seem a sensible investment for a 28 year old given our relatively tight budget.

Under these circumstances however, I think it looks a really smart signing. Every club in the division would love to sign a 'proven goalscorer' in January, but they're so few and far between (not to mention in demand) I never really felt that was realistic. Given that, I think Dennis is better than we could have possibly hoped for. Last three seasons prior to this:

- 23 goals in a mid-table Conference side
- 10 goals in a relagated League One side
- 21 goals in a relagated League Two side

To anyone suggesting that our issue isn't finishing but rather creating chances, that didn't seem to be an issue for him last season. I don't know how many chances Chesterfield created last season but he scored very nearly half their goals. I can forgive him for his less impressive form this season; three managers in half a season and a cóck-tweeting, fruit loop of a chairman. They're a basket case - he must be relieved to be out of there (for now).

A smooth sea never made a skillful mariner.

I'm more than happy with a strike team of Thomas, Vernam and Dennis. Feel like we're building something and it's slowly coming together!

Only part I worry about is Welsh, how long a contract is he on? I can't imagine he's cheap wage wise coming from a Championship team and it's all just a waste at the moment.

Padraig Amond: 0.42
Omar Bogle 0.44
Christian Dennis 0.40

Not necessarily, as a 35 year old midfielder i doubt anyone was throwing cash at him, he probably just hoped for a bit more football, shame for him because he comes across a really good guy on twitter. He’s got good experience and showed why he’s useful to have against MK the other day, im not too worried about it all personally

Yeah, I really like his attitude. Hasn't made it obvious that he's drunk at being dropped (if he is) and posts a lot of praise on Twitter to other players and the fans. Hopefully he's come here more as a transitional thing into becoming a coach but the fact he was made captain before he'd played makes me think otherwise.

I think it is clear that Welsh was signed to play in a 3-5-2 formation, the holding role as such, to be fair most of the season we haven't played that formation and he clearly isn't mobile enough to play in a 2 man centre mid role...

Still think it could work, but in a diamond 442, however no width..

I would like us to sign a couple of proper wingers so we can vary our approach...

Dennis Simply a Great singing.

Regarding Welsh I  still think we'll see him get more game time at some point he's been unlucky in both the formation and form of those around him. Also with such a young team we need experience in and around the first team to help them along Welsh and Collins have that in abundance.

Whilst the thought of Thomas and Dennis upfront in this league is very good, I don't think people should just forget about Vernam, he is a good player for this league aswell

We've just bagged a guy who scored 21 goals in this league last season, in a very very poor side.  Yet some people still don't seem to be happy!

All transfers are a gamble in some respect, you can never judge how something will pan out, but on paper alone this is a fantastic signing.  We lack goals, Dennis scores goals.  Every time I've seen him play he's looked a handful and someone who puts himself about, which fits in very well with the high pressing and energetic style that we're aiming for.

Just about the same thread as for every other new player or manager.

"He's a great signing / not impressed"

Let's give the guy a chance before we name him the new Amond / Brodie.

No doubting Vernam’s natural ability but my concerns over his performances are when he starts how he seemingly drifts totally out of games and rarely in a second half has any positive impact on our attacking play.

Maybe it’s all part of his development and gaining match experience through playing real game time but for me not yet made the impact I was hoping for. Maybe that Embleton is playing in his preferred position just behind the striker so could be next season when his signing will start to bear fruit.

I would think Whitehouse is likely to play in the embleton position next season isn't he, be like a new signing.

I think he probably will but I hope people don’t get too carried away with the lad and put too much pressure on him.

By the sounds of it he is more of a snapper, in your face hard worker than a playmaker with subtle skills.

He was offered a one year contract with Lincoln and a 2 year with us and would likely get more game time. If Lincoln only offered one year then there is a reason for that. It means the Cowleys didn’t see him as a first team starter. Appreciate he plays in midfield and so might only see the ball flying over his head if he was still with them, but let’s not get our hopes up to high and put him on a pedestal.

Nice to see he was in the right place to score if the Newport player had not scored an own goal.
